Just mind those two weeks of chaos as the farmhouse is updated to having electricity and internet. De Chima’s newest Ambassador has to have a professional email account after all.

Huh. [ That's... something. The temptation to pry into the RISE ordeal is there, but Hawke won't go for it, for now. ] You do know that you're allowed days off, right?

[ Which is a legitimate question. Not all imPorts would. In any case, Hawke sighs and drops her arms back to her sides, hands resting on her hips. ]

Sorry. I was just worried you might be upset. It feels as though you've been, well, avoiding everyone.

[Which is why she's arranged to stay with other people on those days off]

For one, at me. For... various reasons, I imagine.

[ She never actually apologized, she invited Jacob to stay on the farm, she's actually working out a deal with Mark to get the farm upgraded. Although, how Kel would know the last part would be a mystery to her, but it is a possibility. ]

[Kel stares at without emotion for a long while.]

...Well it was hard to tell how much was you, it's true.

So ask. I admit every conversation isn't as clear to me as I'd like, though I do know enough to know that I should have apologized much earlier than now.

[Kel glances inside the house to check that there's no one close enough to listen, before shutting the door and leaning back against the wall]

You...told me I was only agreeing with Lucy because I-I had feelings for her, and that if I was really a bodyguard the whole mess last month wouldn't have happened.

[Folding her arms and looking at the porch floor boards seems to help, even as her voice gets quieter]

You weren't...wrong, it just wasn't comfortable to hear.

I see. Well, you should know that I [ this her, that is ] don't believe that last part one bit. What happened came out of nowhere and you couldn't have anticipated it. I couldn't have, nor could Lucy. None of us have the sort of freedom to drop everything and watch someone indefinitely, Kel. Not here.

[ As for the other part! ]

And while I don't think you agree with anything solely based on a crush, that you do have one has always been fairly obvious to me.

[Why is she so obvious, whyyyyy, she hid a crush from her best friend for three years...

She does swallow hard, not exactly ready to admit that Hawke's good judgement of her was that important to her yet.]

[ There's a long pause as Hawke wracks her brain to try and recall what exactly that advice was, in which she shifts uncertainly where she stands, the boards of the porch creaking underfoot. Inevitably, she has to ask. ]

...and, uh, what kind was that again?

[Kel glances at the floor again, then up and makes one of the dirtier gestures she learned from the soldiers]

But that wouldn't even work between--

[ Hawke won't finish that. It'll only make it worse and she's trying to make things better here. ]

Maker, Kel, I'm sorry. That was uncalled for.

[Kel ducks her head and breathes]

I'm used to strangers and enemies making unwanted comments on my sex life, real or imagined, I have to be. I'd rather not have to deal with it from friends as well.

[ She holds her hands up. ]

I know, I get it. Consider it something I won't bring up again, assuming I'm in my right mind. [ Normally, she wouldn't have gone that far anyway. For things she can't control, well, she can never guess at the future in this place. ] And if I'm not, you should probably just punch me for it.

I didn't really want to try that in the house, unless you wanted to get electricity installed as we rebuilt half of it.

[Since she's meeting Hawke's eyes this time, that's PROBABly a Joke]

That... is a very understandable worry, actually. Hm.

[ She might have. Who knows? ]

Ah, though on that topic! [ And here comes the other thing that Kel may or may not be mad at her for! ] I've found a way to get the electrical work done right away, assuming I can get Lucy to agree.

As long as you can get her to agree, the faster we can get a better stove and air conditioning is fine with me.

I've already decided on the best route of attack there. [ Washing machines, my friend. Washing machines. ] Just understand, regular banks don't like considering imPorts for loans, so the one for this will be coming from, ah, an investing firm.

[ Though Hawke doesn't sound surprised. ]

Well, whether Her Majesty accepts something like that or not is up to her, but this may end up being separate, considering I was the one seeking it. As it is, the one good thing the other me managed to do was get the cost of getting the farm wired up down quite a bit, so I'm not too worried.

A bit. He came over to help with the dogs, didn't he?

[She hesitates]

I still don't like him. Or trust him.

He does seem to like dogs...

[ Which does make Hawke more inclined to like him, but-- ]

Well, there's no rule saying you have to like or trust everyone, so that's fine. The loan itself would be business, not personal, so on that I can at least assure you he's very serious about.
