road not taken log!
WHO: Kanaya and you!
WHERE: Around the Porter cities
WHEN: Backdated to during the plot!
WHAT: Road Not Taken Kanaya tries to make sense of the world not being quite the same as she's used to.
WARNINGS: None!
a. out with the giant daughter
Nonah, De Chima
[ The thing about having a daughter as big as a tiger, imPort housing tends to get pretty crowded. Kanaya can't imagine why she hasn't gotten roomier accommodations, but she's trying to make due. Part of that means getting Ashiah out of the house as frequently as she can, giving her a chance to stretch her legs. Much as the grub insists she can look after herself, her mother isn't so easily convinced. Earth is a weird world for her, even if she's mostly grown up on it. They aren't used to seeing something like her.
In fact, they seem less used to her than Kanaya would have thought, after five years. Some of them cross on the other side of the street, others visibly recoil, even scream. Kanaya can only assure them that she's harmless, and herbivorous besides. It isn't like she's going to eat any of them.
When they come to any park, Kanaya lets her run freely, but firmly reminds her not to dig. Ashiah gives her an irreverent chirrup before she goes to climb a tree. Kanaya just scoffs as she settles down on a nearby bench with a book. ]
Kids.
b. up in the air
Nonah, De Chima, Maurtia Falls, Heropa
[ When Ashiah's tired herself out enough for a nap, (she thinks sleeping in the corner of the ceiling makes her so edgy!) Kanaya gets the chance to stretch out, herself. With the wings of her suit extended, she's free to glide through the city, to survey. She glides around like this for a while, moving from building to building, from city to city, just looking for anything that demand her intervention.
Eventually, something will catch her eye, and she'll alight nearby before retracting her wings. ]
Alright. What's going on here, then?
c. choose your own adventure!
[ Feel free to make your own scenario, or hit me up at
royaltimes if you'd like me to make one for you! ]

a!
It seems rude, but he finds himself jumping slightly at the sight anyway.]
Shit. Jesus —
[There's no way — do those things grow that quickly?
His gaze then falls to Kanaya, at which point he looks appropriately sheepish... and then a little bewildered. His brows furrow. Something ain't right, here.]
Kanaya?
no subject
Mr. Goodman. You've met my daughter, Ashiah. Haven't you?
[ She wouldn't have brought her to Seoul, fitting her on the plane would have been much trickier. But, as a member of the imPort community, she'd be pretty hard to miss.
Ashiah purses her lips, giving him a silently appraising look. ]
no subject
Maybe Ashiah just had a growth spurt.]
Yeah, yeah. Of course. She's just — heh, jeez, what've you been feeding her? She's... uh, she's grown since the last time I've seen you both.
no subject
Oh, you know, it's mostly the usual. Though I have to keep her away from the shrubbery every now and then! [ She lets out a laugh, while Ashiah looks bored and starts glancing up at the building next to them. She could climb up it, get away from them both. Kanaya throws a quick stinkeye at her. ] Don't even think about it.
[ Ashiah gives her a flippant trill and settles down on her hind legs. ]
But you know, everyone keeps saying that. I suppose they just get a little surprised at the reminder of her size.
[ Somewhere above them, someone is sending a newscopter as the public quietly panics. ]
no subject
Yeah... I bet. So I take it you've both been well, then?
A.
He was just sort of meandering through the area when he stops to watch in awe as Ashiah scurries up the tree, and meanders his way over to where Kanaya has parked herself on the bench. ]
She got really big.
[ He remembers not too long ago now how he could hold that squirming baby in his arms-- And almost drop her. But! If he dropped her now she'd probably be fine!
... He's not gonna attempt to pick her up to find out. ]
no subject
No bigger than she was last time you saw her! But yes, she's certainly continuing to grow. Soon enough, it may be awkward to navigate her through the city.
[ Meanwhile, Ashiah's managed to find a stronger perch, casually brooding as she picks away at the leaves. ]

Actually, the funny thing is that Junseo's memory isn't really that bad, but it's easy to convince him that it is. He knows he's not the brightest bulb in the bunch, and if someone says something to him with enough conviction then he's likely to believe them even if his own memories disagree with the new information he's given.
So if Kanaya told him that he knew Ashiah for a year he would reluctantly agree with that. Never mind he hadn't even been here for a full year yet. ]
She isn't...?
[ That still doesn't sound right though. ]
How big is she going to get?
well maybe i just misread aug for apr somehow
Of course, that's still a few years on.
[ She feels like she's had this conversation so many times, because she probably has. Everyone eventually asks, and the answers tends to vary little. ]
It's okay! I had to double check myself, and I'm the one playing him
You're damn right he is.
He's also imagining a mini mothra knocking over small buildings. He may be having trouble figuring out the scale of "three times that".
And suddenly his head whips around to look at Kanaya. ]
She pupates?

[ Is she going to get into an impromptu entomology lesson here, explain the whole process of metamorphosis? His Mothra fantasies may well be close enough, if a bit more colorful, on various levels. ]
no subject
[ Why is she bigger for making a cocoon for herself as opposed to just suddenly sprouting wings? ... Good question, he doesn't actually have a good answer for that. ]
no subject
And, of course, she'll be engorging herself at least a month before she forms her chrysalis.
[ She puffs up her cheeks and holds out her hands, just to illustrate that she's going to have a really fat daughter in five years. ]
