WHAT: The OTO branch of DARPA has created imPocreats for imPort engagement and local enjoyment! Come and play, if you want to be the very best -- like no one ever was!
WARNINGS: Please contact the mods if this needs to be updated.

GREETINGS, IMPORTS! And welcome to the Swearing-In Ceremony of May 2016! If you choose to partake in the ceremony, you are in for a treat: prepare for trouble, and make it double! You will be testing DARPA’s brand new holographic-and-cyborg technology called imPocreats. Yes, “imPocreat”, as in Impossible Creations. While the physical body of imPocreats are made of synthesized organic material and robotics, the “attacks” that these inventions have are purely theoretical. That’s where the holographic tech comes into play, for entertainment purposes only! Every imPocreat is programmed to deliver a hit or take a hit, though the impact of attacks may vary depending on environmental or random influences.

Each participating imPort who is physically at this Swearing-In will be given an imPocreat of their own choosing. They are listed below. All imPocreats are products of DARPA’s Otherworldly Technologies Organization (OTO).

The actual Swearing-In will take place in the six mile long, four mile wide mega biome dome called The Shudder, located in Covington, Virginia. Within The Shudder are man-made terrains designed to provide a challenging atmosphere for participating imPorts as they battle with their imPocreats.

There will not be a singular champion of this Swearing-In. In fact, there may be none at all, or there may be dozens. Anyone who has won two imPocreat battles will be considered a champion of The Shudder. Players may plot with each other to determine battle outcomes -- Mods will NOT determine battle outcomes.

All imPorts will be housed in a country Bed & Breakfast called Evening Star for the weekend, unless they pursue other arrangements.

Any champion may keep their imPocreat -- but remember, the holographic attacks are not REAL. They will not induce actual damage on non-imPocreats. And if you're an imPort who isn't COMPETING with an imPocreat, but you're just along for the ride (or maybe you want to play with an imPocreat for a weekend, if you're that lonely/curious) you're also invited to come along, but you are excluded from being able to keep your imPocreat past the event. It is legally understood that any personal damage incurred upon competitors and in-dome onlooker imPorts comes at their own risk.

Remember that this entire event will be televised for an American audience. All of it, unfiltered. Cameras will be in the air, in the ground, in the water. Your personal drama may very well be displayed in High Definition. Any participating imPort will need to sign a waiver consenting to the cameras. This can be an opportunity for your countrymen to learn what kind of imPort you truly are.

ARENA TERRAINS

THESE ARE THE LANDSCAPES WITHIN THE SHUDDER DOME:

UNDERWATER ARENA
Literally twenty-one feet underwater in a man-made saltwater arena. There is enough light shone above and the water is clear enough that your vision won’t be obstructed even if you’re at the sandy bottom. You will be provided diving gear so that you may breathe; you’ll have enough oxygen for one hour. There intricate patches of coral along the perimeter of this arena, and there are jellyfish, tiger sharks, and electric eels. This kind of marine wildlife isn’t for show, so remember that you’re always exposed for attack!

For those of you not participating in imPocreats battles, you’re still allowed to take a dive and watch. This is a great biome arena for secret conversation by mind link communicators. Not that you’d be plotting anything, of course! You’re all loyal American imPort citizens!

FROSTBITE ARENA
A seemingly vast arctic glacier spreads before you. That icy breeze feels withering, better hope you dressed warmly. Beware of cybernetic polar bears, there are a few scattered about for entertainment and they all have steel jaws. The sky above looks weirdly purple, and you can’t quite explain why. Everything feels so cold, so brutal. You’ve grown tired of see ing your breath before your very face. The chill seeps into your hands, your bones, and the moment you look at your fingertips you see the skin begin to crack, and you know. Oh, you know.

Splinter is coming.

DESERT ARENA:
Need a break from all that water and chilliness? Jump on in into the Desert Arena, conveniently located right beside the Frostbite Arena and enter a world of sand and dry, arid heat... a little too much heat, if you ask some! Once inside, you're expected to make a trek to the other side, which is quite a journey, particularly when the fans begin kicking sand up into a sandstorm, so you might want to make sure everything's all covered up, lest you come out of the other side caked in sand! Not to worry; upon entering you'll be equipped with goggles and all of the cloth coverings you need, though it's up to you whether or not you accept them. Cacti are plentiful here, providing much needed landmarks between stretches of land, and brief, violent showers provide a welcome respite from the heat.

FOREST ARENA:
Finally, something normal. The de facto default arena, the Forest Arena is precisely what it sounds like. The grass is lush and beautiful, and the trees are in full foliage. This arena cycles through the seasons on an hourly cycle, but each season is a mild one, indicated by, respectively, a light dusting of snow, a showering of flower petals, bright sunshine, and colourful leaves falling from the sky. Feel free to explore to your heart's content, though beware: there are plenty of creepy crawlies lurking in the bushes. Arachnophobes beware!

STREET ARENA:
Maybe all this nature isn't up your alley. You want to play with the imPocreates, but you fancy yourself a street kid. Popular among viewers for the unobstructed view of the technology used and of the imPorts themselves, this Arena is composed of several alleyways, filled with decorative dumpsters and tasteful graffiti. The fire escapes on the fake buildings surrounding them are stable and fully climbable, however, if you want to take your battle as high as it can go!

VOLCANO ARENA
This arena is right by the Underwater Arena -- it is, in fact, a literal volcano rising out of the sea. The volcanic mass is about half a mile long and wide, and it is comprised entirely of extrusive igneous rock. Every hour, the volcano will tremble and shake, and volcanic ash will billow out from the mouth of the rising volcano. If you dare to hike it, it is about 1,000 feet to the top. Careful, however, this volcano is active. You may may risk getting caught in the way of lava flow! Don't dawdle in this arena!

A.) Meet me by the swings after school (Street Arena)

[Kaneda didn't really come to this Swear-In expecting anything like this. Usually it was the same old geezers talking about togetherness and imPorts being a gift that they should all cherish, something-something patriotism something-something America. Usually, he just came to these things for the buffet. But the moment he got there, the moment he saw those cyborg-like animals, the way his face lights up could rival the sun itself.

They really got to use these?

You'd think he'd choose the tiger or the ghost. Heck, the sheep and the bug were pretty noticable, too. Something scary or intimidating. Something that was cool just like him. Something with charisma and something that looked like it could kick your ass to the west coast and back. And he almost did. His hand did hover over that tiger. It did consider that bug. But each time it glossed over, not finding quite what he was looking for in any of them. Something...that really called out to him.

The sheep maybe? It was rather big...the striking red lines on it was impressive...

But it's not what he decides on in the end. No...what he decides on is the smallest one. A tiny red shrimp with purple antennae that stands at maybe a foot tall. Yes. This is what the head of the Capsules chose. Because there's something to be said for hidden power, and he knows this thing's just pumping with it. It might be a cyborg/holographic tech creature, but he's ready to fight with it.

So in the street arena, he's crouched down and tending to the little antennae on his Dragprawn, making sure everything's checked out as far as it's concerned. Even if it is just a robot/cyborg creation, it is kind of cute. And like hell he's going to let it go into the field with anything wrong with it. You can find him here if you want to fight him.

But don't let that little shrimp fool you--Kaneda's the mastermind behind it, and if there's one thing he knows, it's how to survive against things with a much higher difficulty curve. And secret weapons.]


B.) Near, Farrr where EVERRR you are (Your location)

[That doesn't mean Kaneda is someone to stay in one place. He may wander into whatever Arena you happen to be visiting, Dragprawn in his arms and confidence spread wide across his face. The Dragprawn itself seems just as confident, little legs idly kicking as it's head peeks out over Kaneda's arms.

They're ready to earn some wins, and if anything shows by the way they step into the area(s), they're both in sync with that on their minds. Then again, maybe the Dragprawn just always looks like that. Who knows just how sentient these things are. HELL, MAYBE THAT'S WHY HE PICKED IT IN THE FIRST PLACE.

C.) Bed & Breakfast

[For those of you not wanting to fight, you might find Kaneda getting coffee at the downstairs portion of the Bed & Breakfast. His Dragprawn seems to have made the trip with him, sitting on his shoulder placidly and watching as that coffee gets stirred with...cream. He's experimenting with cream this time.


Ever see a man with a 'pet' robo-shrimp? This would be the time to do so.]

A - Trainer DOOKU wants to fight!

Now this Swear-In seems interesting- more than a meaningless gathering for food and drink, it appears to be some sporting event associated with the military. A weapons test, perhaps? Well worth the attention of a Sith.

Dooku can be found awaiting challengers at the Volcano arena, posing dramatically with his cape fluttering behind him from the swirling, heated air, red-tinged light flickering over his face from nearby lava. He has selected Ertceps as his combatant, finding its powers and aesthetics to be most befitting of the Dark Side. The eight-foot phantom looms beside the Count as he scans the arena for whoever dares to test its power.

B - the Evening Star

Anyone wanting to talk to the Count away from the chaos and cameras of the arena can find him grumbling in his room at the sadly modest (to his mind, at least) quarters the government has assigned. He will be spending most of the evening struggling with the laundry facilities: one of the drawbacks of the Volcano arena is having to get ash dust out of his cape.

[Repliku was all about this scene. He didn't care about the meeting people or anything else, he was ready to take this challenge head on. With his Swole Squared, he heads for the Volcano area in search of an opponent. Oh. What he finds is some old guy with that supposedly spooky ghost thing. He even rolls his eyes a bit at both of them.]

1 - When you're the best of friends

April didn't waste time in getting her little shrimp dragon monster. It might not be real, but it was now hers. She's going to keep it. So she spends the first half of the night not fighting, but carrying her monster in her arms with the raccoons trailing after her. Bow before her mighty minion!

2 - Let's get down to business

Then it was time for fighting the monsters. April is pretty sure she wants to add this thing to her household collection, she she's gonna do what she's got to do. Any place, any time, any location. It's murder time. Or at least angry bubble time.

And then there was the real battle. Not that the others were fake for her dragon-snack. But this one had vendetta behind it. This one...was personal. Shrimpy gets tossed into the (maybe worryingly flammable) forest, then April places her hands on her hips.

"We have a problem."

"Oh my god, you cannot simply sneak up on people when they're walking through a forest," said Chilton, as he placed his hand possessively over his Blickablake's head. The tiger creature was at easy height to stroke at his whim.

"But yes, well done, we have a problem. Hence our mutually understood avoidance -- which you're presenting defiling, I might add."

1. Streets

[Yet again, he's going to one of these things, but this time he didn't even fight the trip there. He played a lot of Satchelmon by now, he's beaten the game he had and he's played a few other monster battle games to where he instantly can identify what this is about. They're monsters you can fight other monsters with, but real!! He's in. He's so, so in. This time he can prove himself the best for everyone to actually see!

A shrimp? Psh. Please. It's tiny. The giant gazelle? It looks pretty cool, with horns and weird coloring. He always did like green colors. The sheep? It's got a very striking pattern - yellow and red. One you'd think he likes, judging by the borrowed clothing he wears. But he passes it by faster than the gazelle.

Then... he sees it. Standing at the height of a small horse, bright eyes watching the world with an intense, predator stare, soft silver stripes gleaming against its light purple coat...

There's no consideration of the other ones. He walks out with that tiger and heads immediately to the familiar ground of the streets. It pads along behind him, shoulder-height to its human, its silence only occasionally broken by a deep, awesome growl. In comparison, Tetsuo looks tiny, Kaneda's red jacket the only bright splash of color between the two.

It tenses as they near a low roof, clearing the distance in one awesome leap to perch on a nearby roof, using its new vantage point to scan for fighters. Tetsuo grins, wrapping his powers around himself and propelling himself easily upwards to join it, landing at its side. It eyes him, then leans over to thunk its forehead against his shoulder, almost knocking him over with the force used to rub its head against him. New territory sufficiently marked, it returns to watching out for challengers, with Tetsuo proudly standing beside it.]

Oi. You!

[Sure, it thoroughly ruins the point of a top ambush, but psh. He's played these games, he knows how it works - and it fits in line with his method anyway. You gotta issue a challenge! Up here, loser, check THIS out.]

2. Your Location

[Holographic ice claws uselessly outstretched, the Blickablake bounds effortlessly through the dome, raw power coursing through cyborg muscles with every leap forward. It's tireless, restless, and wild; and the teenager on its back's face is just as gleefully feral as he clings to its very real-feeling fur. Who the hell cares where it's going?! Who cares if it's a forest anymore, either - on the back of a cyborg holo-fighting tiger, he feels invincible.

Any leap it makes that's too far, he kicks his own power in, seamlessly sailing the both of them across any gap until its immense, functionally clawless paws catch the other side, gaining it purchase to keep running. In turn, it starts taking bigger and better risks, rewarded for its reckless abandon by never falling short of their mark. There's nowhere they can't go.

From the streets to somewhere else, they'll keep at it for a long while, only stopping when one or both of them notice something else out there.

It wants to fight, raring and ready to go to the last limit. Tetsuo is of that same mind, kicking off and easily sailing to land behind it, still grinning from the run.]

'ImPocreat Trainer Tetsuo would like to battle....' hah! [Clearly, by the amused sing-song method of recitation, he's incredibly entertained by all of this.] C'mon. Show me what you got!

3. Bed and Breakfast

[If you want to hear someone complaining incessantly about the food they provide here, or generally being grouchy in an all expense paid vacation, Tetsuo can be found lounging against his tiger or generally being moody and bored if he's not out fighting. Or playing with his extremely tolerant and generally bored-looking Blickablake's massive paws, flexing them out, and running his fingers through the holographic claws, with way too thoughtful an expression.

It's a cyborg cat, right? It could have claws..]

4. WIldcard

[If you want to fight him, as long as he gets at least two wins I'm okay with him losing to let you help keep yours. He's likely to challenge to a rematch if he loses.]

[Tetsuo's not exactly quiet about his complaints about a paid vacation, and that, if anything, makes him pretty easy to find in the Bed & Breakfast. Tetsuo's not the only one who's lounging about, Kaneda deciding he could really use some coffee right about now as he works his way over, that shrimp clinging to his shoulder like giant arthropod parrot.


But he does have an apple juice in his hand for Tetsuo, holding it out as he moves to sit next to that tiger as well.]

1. Your Wigglearms is Poorly Trained

[Mewtwo got wind of the swear-in at the dome. He came to mostly sneer and glare/learn what exactly would be held in a giant dome. That was the plan, anyhow.

When he saw what laid in store...insulted didn't come close to how miffed he felt seeing this but it came close. Trainable animal robots? To battle with each other? Was this some sort of joke? Was this some kind of dig at him? Was he not free from the anthrocentrist circus even here?

At the very least they weren't real animals and it seemed the attacks only operated on the holographic area.

He took a Wigglearms for himself. He's not like them, no. Mewtwo wanted to prove a point to these humans, that's all. And if they wished to set up a mockery of a game, then he'll beat them at their own game.

Oh yes, he's going to show off in this underwater arena: floating over the water like a pokemon saint with his imPorcreat in his arms. If he has to fight to keep this little toy, then he'll fight a human. He'll fight twenty humans. And he'll do it in front of their cameras, humiliating as many humans if need be.

He signs 'fight me' to anyone with the misfortune of passing by.]

2. Wherever You Go

[As he continued his way beneath the dome, away from the 'battles', the psychic pokemon floated the imProcreat by his side. No way would he let it touch the ground.

Yes, he found himself getting possessive of the toy. He rescued it from irresponsible people who didn't know what they were doing.

He looks at the axlotl creature beside him, musing what to name it as he took a hold of it. Yes, this was his and his alone.]

[Their meandering chase ends at the shore of the small sea arena, Tetsuo's cat slowing down to sniff quizzically at the water's edge, then turn back as if to say 'what now?'

Testuo knows what now - he leans forward against his tiger's back.

'Keep running. Go!'

And his tiger does. Its paws land solidly on the water, leaving ripples behind, but they don't sink. Tetsuo's mind wraps solidly around the both of them, holding them up in the air as they race over waves, leaping over sharks and jellyfish, laughing as waves break around them. His tiger roars alongside, sending a beam of holographic ice to coat the path ahead of them. Before the illusion vanishes, they've already passed it. To them, it's as if they're running a road of ice across the sea.

And ahead? A glowing volcano. But Tetsuo's not afraid. The two of them keep running towards it, ignoring the smoke and ash that clouds the area. Finally, he lets his tiger go as it touches down onto solid land, letting it race up the slope in a spiral. They were going to go everywhere. See everything. The sea? No problem! The forest? His usual terror towards that much nature, diminished by the psychological buffer of a massive mecha-tiger as his ride. The tiger's huge paws kept it from sliding much on harsh desert sands,Tetsuo's own powers blowing dunes apart if they were too large. At one point, he shielded right through one, leaving a tunnel of glass in their wake.

It's from here that he sees Mewtwo's form hovering above the ocean, from the distance. They slow, and come to a brief halt when Tetsuo tugs at his tiger's fur. And there, from the side of the volcano, riding an ice tiger that's at home nowhere near here, Tetsuo pings out a message.]

Evening Star: [And here Max was, working dutifully on her Rumblr. Even though she still much preferred her analog camera, her digital one was well-suited for signal-boosts and the like. Well, it wasn't as though she'd actually had a lot to signal-boost, lately, but being prepared never hurt anyone. Besides, it gave Max a chance to get her thoughts together. There was just something about the internet, she supposed...]

Forest Area: [It's been awhile since Max had actually participated in anything. Really, she knew she needed to get out more, which was why she was participating. And honestly? Her inner geek was out in full force right now. Having chosen the Alterram, Max made her way to the forest area., happily snapping pictures of her Pokémon ImpoCreat along the way.

But fighting? She didn't know if she could actually do fighting. At least it wasn't serious, and there was - hopefully - no chance of anyone getting hurt.]

Pick Your Pony! ...ram-gazelle-thing
Daryl went to the swear in only because it sounded like it was required if he was going to officially be registered. All the people he'd asked about it among the locals had assured him that it would be great and he'd get food and drink and that the ceremony was necessary and all that crap. So he'd gone. And after getting there, they put this new twist on it with the whole testing of robot toy bullshit. Something Daryl was tempted to pass on, really. But he wanted to get the thing over with, so he'd signed the waivers and disclaimers and when given the descriptions of the toys - their species and type - he hadn't waited for further details before taking the first one on the list.

He'd been thinking it would be something about a foot tall or maybe two at best. But when he said to hand it over, they had instead led him over to a line of towering deer-like robots and activated one of them. Set it up for his control. Then told him to have fun. It took him another five minutes of standing there, staring up at a creature who's head was as high as a basketball hoop and who's horns were another four feet beyond that, before he found the will to move off. Mostly prompted by the attendant urging him to the side so another of the Alterrams could be activated.

Still a bit on the stunned side, he started to wander towards the arenas, every so often looking back and up to watch the spindly legged thing follow after.

Back to Nature
The default arena being the one made to look like a forest was quite the blessing as far as Daryl was concerned. He had no intention of moving out of it unless it was strictly for the ceremony or to help himself to some food. The rest of the time he could keep himself and his towering new toy hidden in it's depths.

That was the plan, anyway. Right up until another imPort passed close enough for the little control to chime out "imPoCreat Trainer Daryl wants to battle!" on his behalf. This declaration was followed immediately after with one of his own directed the device: "Like hell I do! Shut the fuck up!"

[Fast forward a bit, it was a little awkward seeing Daryl around after how peeved he was with the photo op and all. But it wasn't like that was going to change any time soon with him staying with Rick most the time, so Enid decided to try putting the thought past her when she saw him exit his shared room with Rick and Carl the next morning. After all, they had to talk again sometime, right? So, she goes with saying the first thing to mind.]

01 - The Shudder

[ Brianna signs the waiver impatiently and zips over to pick her imPocreat. She's still trying to make a decision when one of the natives in charge of handing out the creatures notices her and decides that a little girl should probably not be in charge of a 14 foot gazelle. "Oh, this one's just your size!" she says, handing over the tiniest imPocreat—a Dragprawn. For a second, Brianna thinks about protesting, but then she decides that having a small, unassuming monster might work in her favor. Nobody will be scared of a little shrimp thing. And then, bam. They won't know what hit them!

For the rest of the weekend, she can be found anywhere inside the Shudder, demanding that anyone with their own imPocreat stop everything to battle her immediately. ]

02 - bed & breakfast(s)

[ When not actively battling with her little hellprawn, Brianna hangs out at the B&B, helping herself to seconds and thirds at every meal, crashing through up and down the halls when other people are trying to sleep, and occasionally bursting into other imPorts' rooms without bothering to knock (or possibly after knocking too quickly for anyone to actually answer). The entire time, her tiny imPocreat, aptly named Terror, is affixed to the top of her head or skittering up and down her arms. ]

Bed & Breakfast

[Dinner was quite the affair with all the imPocreats hanging around. Daryl's Alterram was no where to be seen - inside the Bed and Breakfast. It stood outside, holographic grass appearing at it's feet, or a holographic tree popping into existance within two feet of it's spindly body for it to eat like it was a real animal. Daryl had spent the day with it and had gotten used to it being there in the background, but it was still unnerving enough that when he grabbed his dinner, he plopped down in a seat that put his back to the window. That the seat just so happened to be at the same table as Breeze was entirely not a coincidence.]

I - How to choose a starter?

[There was so much Nike still didn't understand and felt uncertain over the whole swear-in thing. She was still undecided about joining or not. It doesn't help that her undecided nature was getting worse as she was asked to choose a creature-thing to go along with her. Her gaze will turn to the options which will have her brightening up in surprise by how they all looked so adorable to her! And new! But mainly adorable!]

I want them all!

[All said with some confidence over the matter as she was almost expecting they'll give them all to her, but when she realizes they couldn't do as she asks, well, she will look quite sullen. It was hard to decide over which to pick. She really liked them! Without a second thought, she'll turn to the next person that happens to choose without issue. A small, friendly smile will appear as she decides to ask.]

Hey! If you don't mind, can I see your new friend there? I'm still having trouble deciding on one.

II - Under the sea!

[After she, more or less, has chose a new animal friend to hang around with, Nike will be exploring the terrain that was available for everyone to battle in. Personally, she wasn't interested in these so called tournaments. Besides, she didn't want her new friend to get hurt especially when it had almost no interest in joining these games. Or at least, Nike would like to believe as much. And besides, her attention was mainly at the way the arena looked, the way it was filled with all kinds of life. The fish and coral will definitely have her full attention.

'It's so beautiful...'

She couldn't help reach out with idle curiosity, her fingers wanting to lightly touch it, but stopped herself short from actually doing it since another thought came to mind.

'Can I stay here even if I have no interest in this fighting stuff? I really want to stay! I want to see if maybe...just maybe I can use my rain song in here. Would I create a better connection to this world in there if I did?'

She'll look slightly puzzled over the matter before she decides to give her new friend attention as a way to distract herself without realizing that she may have unwanted guests circling her from a distance. It doesn't seem that not even their shadow was spooking her at all.]

III - This is where having friends around is a good idea...

[After exploring the areas she was allowed to roam around in, Nike will find herself at the Evening Star, which was known as a bed and breakfast when in her time it would be considered an inn instead. Whatever the case, that wasn't the issue Nike was having at all nor did she minded the name change. The issue was: she couldn't decide if she wanted to be registered or not.

The idea that she needed to join an army of any kind didn't sit well with her; however the idea of not pulling her weight in helping those who are asking for it was another issue too. She hated to act like a damsel -- and never has, as far as she knows -- but she wasn't a hero type neither. As much as she was taught to live a simple and carefree life, her grandmother had taught her to always follow her heart, no matter what. And her heart was telling her: to help, but without officially joining their forces.]

...how am I even going to do that!? Help, but without joining their army! Wait. What would even happen if I don't join? Will I be asked to leave?

[Nike can be found pacing all over the inn at late hours of the evening, eating almost all of the buffet has to offer in way of food, or simply contemplating on her dilemma out loud at the most inconvenient of times. It was clear she wasn't thinking straight at all, and may need help on making a decision.]

[Repliku was here for the training, nothing else. He'd already gone through a few opponents when he spots Nike with her creature. He of course immediately approaches the two looking them over with his own Swole Squared at his side. They looked weak, but oh well. More opponents to crush under his feet.]

DOME & ARENAS & AROUND;

[ Bruce won't say it, but he knows exactly what this reminds him of. He keeps it to himself, though— there are only so many times a man can break the fourth wall before it starts crumbling down on him, and for once he focuses on just getting some enjoyment, as well as new information, out of this event instead.

He picks one of the imPocreats, the one that resembles an axolotl, but he focuses mostly on studying it out of mere curiosity. He's not really sure if getting into the holographic battles is his thing, but if anyone spots him around the place observing his imPocreat, he may be easily convinced when reminded that he can't keep it unless he participates in the battles.


Later on, he'll be around the arenas, in good part watching other imPocreats perform, but he might be open to the idea of taking part in a battle himself. It feels a little silly, to be perfectly honest, but he really does like the idea of being able to take Wigglearms home with him. Anyone's free to find him in just about any of the arenas, though he will avoid the volcano and desert arenas since he knows he'd be at a major disadvantage there. ]


B&B;

[ It's... nice, the whole set up. In a way he probably shouldn't allow himself to enjoy, but he does. The cameras popping up at random here and there make him a little twitchy, but he ignores them for the most part, and it's almost like he's enjoying a weekend vacation in a quiet little corner somewhere.

He's not difficult to find here, whether in the morning while he's going through the breakfast buffet, or later in the day when he's just taking a walk or sitting outside somewhere, almost always accompanied by his new imPocreat friend. ]


CLOSED TO BETTY;

[ It's such an idyllic experience. Parts of it, anyway. In the morning particularly, Bruce almost doesn't know where he is when he first blinks into wakefulness, the faint sunlight filtering through the blinds and warming the room, the sound of birds and the breeze and faint voices coming from outside.

It's all so peaceful that he almost closes his eyes for fear that it's a dream and he'll wake up any moment now.

He turns on his side instead, and is greeted by the sight of a sleeping Betty facing away from him. A fond smile takes over his features, and after waffling for a bit, he finally scoots a little closer, enough that he can settle his head close to hers on the pillows but hopefully not enough to wake her up.

God, he really hopes it's not a dream. ]

Betty didn't want an imPocreat, but she signs the waver and picks a Dragprawn. Mostly she doesn't want to get attached to a thing and then lose it and that's exactly what would happen here.

She doesn't want to get attached to Bruce's imPocreat either, but he's kept it with him since he got it and it's adorable and she wonders if its limbs could regenerate the way real axolotls are famous for. Tissue regeneration isn't her area but she followed it avidly, back at home. She also wonders if a synthetic rainbow mantis shrimp would be designed to see as wide a band of the EM spectrum as the real thing. She's not going to find out because she's not getting attached. It would help if she could think of it as a technological marvel - no, it doesn't really help.

... Anyway, they're not allowed on the bed. (And she's not going to de-limb your new baby for science, calm your tits.)

The occasionally series of clacks coming from little claws tapping from the bathtub eventually pulls Betty out of sleep, but she's not really prepared to get up. She does turn, neck craning awkwardly, enough to make eye-contact and mumble, "Trainer Ross wants to fight." Good morning.

[It’s exactly this kind of thing that keeps Mabel coming back to the swear-ins time and time again. Who cares if sometimes they end in total disaster! That’s just life, guys. Without risk there is no reward and sometimes that reward is cyborg pets with kick-butt attack powers. Heck yeah! Mabel grabs herself a blickablake without hesitation. It’s a kitty! And off they go, to have adventures and win battles and entertain the people of America.

….ooor not. Mabel’s impocreat is less than stellar at the combat part of the event. There’s too much cat in it, and no matter how many battles Mabel asks it to participate in, the ice tiger just does not succeed. Why fight when it could roll around on its back cutely! Or bat at the snowflakes! Or slap uselessly at the spiders in the forest! Fighting this team is a guaranteed win, basically.

At this moment in particular Mabel’s hanging by her knees from a tree branch in the forest area, entertaining her new friend with a laser pointer and watching it bounce after the light. If they aren’t going to be champions at least they can have fun! And provide some sweet cat video footage in the meantime.]

[Eventually just playing with her cat buddy gets boring, which means it is time to explore. There’s a volcano! And you can go diving! You can’t expect Mabel not to see everything she can see. Her next stop: the arctic area. She’s got a sweater on (as does her blickablake— Mabel is a fast knitter, and it is imperative that they match) so this weather is fine.]

Okay now if I were a polar bear, where would I be.

i. STREET ARENA

[Surprising no one, Riku chooses the Blickablake. It speaks the most to him on an aesthetic level, and it also seems to be the heaviest, which he's found to be an advantage for himself in battle (sparring in particular, since most of his friends are smaller than he is). He travels through the biomes with it padding at his side, looking like he's scrutinizing them carefully. Finally he chooses an arena and settles there, stopping the walk.

This is the place with the biggest open spaces besides the desert, as far as he can tell through an initial exploration. He wants to see how fast this thing can move, and how its endurance is. He expects both to be very good -- it's mechanical, after all. So Riku sets about testing its abilities, getting it to run down straight-aways and navigate hard turns and precise jumps. He tries using it as a mount, too -- he weighs just about two hundred pounds himself, but it has no issue carrying him, though he suspects it's a little slower for it. Once he's figured out the way it moves it's on to testing its actual abilities.

He's here for a while, running drills. He can be found here for a match, if you're looking for a fight.]

ii. OTHER ARENAS

[You're more likely to find this guy in the underwater, forest, or volcanic arenas. He's practicing with Blickablake here too, working away through the various weather and area conditions. He's clearly quite at home in the underwater arena -- he uses the breathing equipment simply because he can't hold his breath for an hour, but he swims with the ease of someone who's been doing it his whole life (because he has). In the forest Riku throws gobs of magic energy for the Blickablake to chase. The volcano turns it back into a mount again, working at dodging the chunks of volcanic rock that sometimes are spat out as globs of magma from the peak and cool into igneous rock by the time they hit the ground.

Those familiar with Riku are aware that he's unable to resist competition -- this particular swear-in is bringing that all out to the front. He's up for whatever sort of battle you ask him for.]

iii. B&B

[When he's not training he's lazing around, more or less, reclining on a loveseat or against the tiger's side on the floor. He's on a walk right this second, the creature padding quietly behind him. This is the only place where he's dialed back to his normal levels of both confidence and outward competitiveness, so if you want to properly chat, this is the place.]

[Aerith, having chosen Alterram, is playing to her advantage by heading straight to the forest. She likes her weird little companion, and already has gotten attached to it. And actually that's what she's doing through the forest, stopping occasionally only to collect a weird plant or seed pod or flower. For her garden, of course.

But she'll stop for anyone wanting a fight. Especially if they look easy to beat.]

[But on the downtime she has, she'll be treating this as a vacation. This Swear-In has been much nicer than last month's, so she's going to enjoy it as much as she can. Anyone's welcome to come by her room or catch her during the day wandering around the grounds or eating.]

Like twice his size. Which is really saying something. But it's the opposite of threatening right now. Instead, it's milling calmly nearby, looking a hell of a lot like one of the Inquisition's deer mounts.]

[He eyes it for a minute, no pun intended, until he notices one of the checker patches just so happens to look, of all things, like an ass.]

[And that's promptly when Bull cracks up.]

THE VERY BEST
[Armed with his cool, ass-marked buddy, whom Bull has nicknamed "HELLA" (Get it? Like a halla but cool. Which is about how he sees his new pet) the Iron Bull steps up to the plate. Metaphorically. This isn't baseball.]

[The Iron Bull can be in any arena you like. Fighting with a giant grass-type deer. And being super excited about the whole thing. While at the same time wondering why he can't just have the thing stomp all over the opponent.]

[Qubit's initial reaction to this event was threefold. One: How long has DARPA had this megadome?! Two: How much did it cost?? and Three: How on Earth is he supposed to secure it? Well, we'll handwave 3 a little for now...

Second issue - these weird little cybernetic abominations. Oh, don't get him wrong, Qubit definitely wants one to study, but that doesn't stop him complaining aloud to nobody specific as he inspects the available options.]

Do they really have to look so... marketable? Why not just go with regular animals? Why are the tigers purple, for heaven's sake?

[But then again, given this government's penchant for melodrama, is it really all that surprising...]

B. Scientist QUBIT wants to battle!

[Ultimately, he settled on a Lamb-Obama Lamabama. If you don't count the hair and/or wool, it is at least as tall as he is. He feels kind of ridiculous walking around with it, but it's for science, okay. Given that this is almost definitely a bioweapons test - I mean, it's DARPA - he ought to get some data of his own. And if that involves gladiatorial combat between two ugly robot animals, then so be it.

[An AI... of sorts. Why wouldn't he be friendly with it? Or it with him.]

[He's probably shuffled awkwardly into a corner of the STREET ARENA, sitting with the Ertceps, who is making faces at him in an attempt to make him laugh. They say he has to fight with it, win a fight, in order to keep it.]

[ She doesn't mean to cast a shadow down over him. At barely five feet, 'will I tower over this person' has never actually been a concern before. The Ertcepts drifting close at her back, though . . . that changes things a bit. ]

They're really amazing creatures, aren't they? Even the skeletal systems . . . each of them uses different alloys.

A) Choices

[ She spends a solid minute staring up at the Ertcepts, standing no more than an arm's length away, head tilted back to meet its red eyes with her own. It was . . . tall. Really tall, and there were all kinds of other choices here—fire and ice, lightning and earth, water and grass . . . but none of them sounded like this. Quiet, whispering. Its feet weren't even touching the floor—it didn't have feet, of course it didn't have feet, it was a ghost, wasn't it?

A ghost cyborg. Designed in a lab, probably an offshoot of some kind of weapons program. But it didn't have to be a weapon, did it? Not this one.

On minute, twenty three seconds. She reaches out, wrapping her fingers into cloth so insubstantial it barely feels as though it's there. ]

B) The Shudder Dome

[ There haven't been this many cameras around since the seminar. It's a little unsettling, so she throws herself into exploring—as interested in showing her ghostly imPocreat these tiny worlds as she is in investigating the systems that sustain them.

You can find her in the Forest in springtime, scooping up a handful of petals, and, seconds later, dropping them with a scream as two cherry blossom leaf bugs squirm against her palms. Bugs. Why is it always bugs!

There's several rooftops to perch on in the Streets, good vantage points for the battles below. But oddly enough, it's the Desert she ends up in the most, goggles on, tufts of pink hair sticking out at wild angles from the extra layers wrapped around her. Holographic bones cut through the sound around her as her Ertcepts shows off what it can do, the howl of the sandstorm dulling the shriek of its voice.

No matter the location, she's more than open to being interrupted, the Ertcepts draping close against her back as she turns around. She's no fighter, really, and 'winning' is so far away from her concerns as to practically not be there at all. But seeing everything these creatures can do, and learning more about the imPorts partnered with them, too . . .

Who could say no to fun like that? ]


C) Kings (Closed to Ikki)

[ That said, there's one person she would never, ever go easy on. This match that calls for nothing less than everything she has, nothing less than everything she is, the Ertcepts' tattered rags billowing out like great grey wings behind her.

Talking in this storm is next to impossible, but it's not as if they need words, now. Not like this. Not even the blowing sand in the air can stop her grin.

Ready? We won't hold back! ]


D) Downtime

[ Come evening she'll be curled up in the Evening Star's common room, hair still damp from the bath, laptop open. The good thing about all those cameras? Being able to loop through highlights from the day's other matches on BlueTube. She sips her (third) glass of water, grinning at some of the comments, and . . . puzzling a bit over others.

One hand seems almost permanently tangled in her Ertcepts' clothy body, and she turns up to it every so often, watching it watch the screen. ]

See? Dodging like that . . . it's just in the timing.

[When the hell did this happen? Chances are it was probably while no one was paying attention to him which is the single greatest mistake anyone can make where Edward Elric is concerned. But it's too late now. This has happened. He doesn't even look happy about it—just irritably resigned.

If anyone even looks like they might be thinking of talking to him about it though, he gestures at the selection of imPocreats as an attempt at distraction.]

So which one are you going to pick?

2 - MEET ME IN THE PIT FOREST

[After spending way too much time agonizing over which imPocreat to choose, Ed finally settled on a Blickablake and immediately bolted off to the Forest zone. Probably to better avoid anyone disappointed in him for registering.

The point is he's there now with his new giant ice tiger friend, ready and waiting for BATTLE.]

3 - A little R&R

[Back at the bed and breakfast Ed can be found sleeping in an arm chair. Or dozing on a couch. Or napping anywhere other than an actual bed. And maybe if you're really lucky he might be found in one of those places awake! But he might just be stuffing his face in the dining room if that's the case. It's astounding how much food such a tiny guy can pack away.]

[Charlie was so gungho for this you have no idea it was pokemon (not the stupid card game the real one) and in real life and she was so close to vibrating right through the floor.]

Forest
[Perry will be spending most of his time here. The expansive forest reminds him that it feels like forever since he's really been out in nature and that he kind of missed it.

Frankly having to do this with a robot axolotl is a little... weird, but Perry had to admit it was mostly because the idea of a pet owning a pet was weird to him. Not to mention that he'd be lying if he said he wasn't charmed by the little Wigglearms.

And of course he was totally willing to train with them too. He would have much preferred fighting these fake monsters himself, but heck, he can be a teacher for now, after all, that was basically the point of this swear-in, right? (And also he figures it would be against the rules to just try to beat up the other monsters). So if he sees you he will probably request a battle to try to improve his axolotl's skills.]

[Of course this entire swear-in was fascinating to Perry, probably one of the more exciting ones he's attended, so he spends a lot of time wandering around all of the habitats battling and exploring. And the few times he's relaxing or at the Bed and Breakfast he's still either playing or at least interacting with his Wigglearms a lot and looking at all the sights.

[Yayoi hadn't planned on being here initially, but how could she resist after hearing rumors of battle monsters?

She spends a long time considering the different options and lingers especially long in front of the pen of Alterrams. Something about the thorns seems appealing... 2 - A Haunting In YOUR AREA

[Yayoi isn't sticking to only one area with her imPocreat. The two of them wander through the different zones throughout the day, gliding quietly from place to place with Yayoi on her A-T and the Ertceps shuffling along behind her.]

3 - Bed and Breakfast

[Back at the inn, Yayoi's shoved her Ertceps down in a corner to lean against it comfortably while she browses through footage from the different fights. It might not be A-T battles—not that same kind of rush—but it's still interesting to see the different tactics that people take.]

1 - Choosing your Starter Poke -- er, Impocreat?

[Yuu already registered and all last month. But he can't deny he's curious. Mostly since he heard this is usually when most of the new people would all have shown up. And that the government always do something big in welcome, to get them to register.

Apparently this time it is some sort of....pet things that you can fight with? He's eyeing them all as he looks to each, trying to decide.]

2 - Random Location:

[Okay. So he now has some sort of.....pet thing. A pet thing that looks like some sort of ice tiger or something. Yuu is quickly learning to just roll with things around here, at least. Of course he is eager to test these things. Even as he watches the Impocreat following him around. He's never had a pet before, but it could be interesting to see if they really can fight?

No time to try it out like the present, right? So of course, Yuu being the....extremely polite gentleman that he is, he goes up to the first person he spots, all but yelling and pointing right in their face.]

Downtime:

[Eventually he's probably exhausted, worn himself out in his excitement of the day and just lounging against Blickablake as he naps. Which could be in one of the common areas, on a couch, on a bench out in one of the parks. Come wake him up, ask him why he isn't sleeping...you know, in a bed?

Alternatively, he can be found in the dining area, taking full advantage of the food. Shoveling it down while trying to decide how he feels about all the cameras now he's noticing them more.

Or later, after eating, he can be found sitting with his impocreat, watching some of the battles, pointing to the screen.]

See? You gotta be faster. Dodge them. This isn't hard. I've been training for years, so you can do it! You just got to stop holding back. Go all out, then you'd win!

[Repliku was going to pick the ghost type one at first, but settled with the fighting type instead. So instead of getting a giant ghost, he gets a very tall humanoid looking fighter thing. Not that he cared what it looked like, all that matter was its deep desire to fight just like he had. When Yuichiro approaches him, he rolls his eyes at him at first before looking confident.]

Sure, if you want to lose that badly. I'm all for it.

1 - Choosing; oh the Decisions?

[Sorey seems to be having trouble deciding on one. He's not even quite sure he actually wants to fight with them. He's just curious, so of course he came along to investigate. He seems to spend longer looking at the Lamabama and Wigglearms though.]

They both look kind of cute......?

Downtime:

[Sorey might not be fighting, but he'll occasionally watch one if he is passing by, his Lamabama following along behind him at his heels. Or he'll simply be found playing with it, feeding it (should he be offering it his snacks? He's not sure. But if he's hungry, he figures maybe the sheep creature is.) Perhaps he's sitting and figuring how to use the cameras to watch other battles going on not in such close proximity. Watching what everyone else is up to with theirs.]

Why is there so many to choose from? It's kinda unfair to have them all look so cute.
