I know, I know ...

[ He's starting to get sleepy now that all the adrenaline's wearing off. ]

[ She recognizes the signs now, especially when he's drunk like this. ]

... C'mon, kiddo, time to get to bed.

I'm in bed. Close enough.

[ He rolls further under it for emphasis. ]

More like you're under it, which you're going to regret in the morning. Don't make me drag you out.

Can't make me. You wanted to ground me anyway.

[ ... She suddenly grins. ]

But will Gregor be able to find you under there?

-- What?

[ He jolts up instantly - and bangs his head on the underside of the bed with a startled yelp. ]

[ She can;t help the startled laugh, but she covers her mouth both to hide it as well as in surprise. ]

You okay?

[ Again, no telltale crack of bone, and the jolt of pain is on par with a mild bruise. He's fine, despite his groaning. ]

Fine, fine ... I was going to head over to him anyway.

You sure he wants to deal with you when you're drunk?

I'm just going to sleep. That's normal enough.

... Want me to carry you over there then? Since you've been sneaking over there anyway.

[ Miles brightens instantly at that. ]

-- Yes, much easier that way. I hate the walk.

Go on then, shrink down.

[ It occurs to him that he's never actually used this in front of his mother. Sober him would probably have had a mental fight with himself just now ... Fortunately, his drunk self is much less inclined to care. He takes a deep breath, reaching back for the familiar mental coil in the back of his head. His control is wobbly as all hell - probably not a good idea to try this while drunk - but down is always easier than up. Within a few moments, he drops down to just barely under two inches high.

He opens his mouth to call up to her - and shuts it, realizing that's not going to work at all. Well. It's a damn good thing they have a link. All done. ]

[ She blinks at how fast he shrinks, then a moment of muted panic rises when she realizes she lost sight of him, eyes darting around the floor and keeping carefully still so she doesn't accidentally squash him. ]

[ Right, damn thick carpet. He probably shouldn't have done it quite that fast or that far. He looks around for a landmark - finds his notebook - and scrambles to climb on top of it. Down here, on my notes. ]

[ Her eyes dart there next, and she lets out a sigh of relief. ]

I was afraid I was going to put my hand on you by accident.

[ She carefully holds her hands out, palm turned up and cupped. ]

[ He winces a little at how loud her voice sounds - just enough to give him a headache if they decide to have a longer conversation - then eyes her hands with some trepidation. This is completely new. Gregor doesn't touch him at all when he's tiny, perhaps out of fear of breaking him. Miles isn't sure that's necessary, but it had lessened the strangeness of using his powers like this. Well ... how else is she going to get him anywhere, put him in a box? Weirder. Right.

Carefully, he climbs over her fingers and settles himself as comfortably as he can in the center of her palm. I'd have let you know if you had. Loudly. ]

[ Oops, she belatedly realizes how loud she must be fore him, deciding to switch to using the link instead. I think I would have been mortified if I had.

But that's neither here nor there. She holds as still as she can with him climbing over her fingers, careful not to twitch when it feels like a bug walking over her skin. Might want to sit or lay down in my hand otherwise you'll be knocked over when I move to stand up. ]

[ He's certainly smaller than some bugs, and just about the weight of one. She could be forgiven for mistaking him for a medium-large spider. Obediently, he sits cross-legged so as (hopefully) not to immediately fall over when her hand starts moving. I think I'm okay. And then, after a beat: I've never done this before. ]

[ Never? Not ever with Gregor?

She slowly moves to stand, trying to keep her hand as level as possible. ]

[ Despite all her efforts, the sudden movement gives him vertigo; he has to brace himself against her hand after all to keep from falling over.

No, he's never picked me up. Another short pause between thoughts. I mean, I tend to drag people along with me if we're touching, so it's usually a bad idea. ]

[ The him being drunk part is also not helping his balance either. She pauses before she's completely upright, eyeing his notebook and torn pages, reaching to pick them up with her free hand. It reminds her of a certain other embarrassing writing that she meant to deliver ages ago ... the thought brings a particularly wicked grin to her face.

She pauses again at the last part of what he says though, the grin turning into frowning. You might have mentioned that before I touched you, y'know. ]

[ He can't really see much from his vantage point, not at this size. Mostly just her hand and her fingers, and whatever he can see of the room past them. He has no idea what she's doing with her other hand.

If I was going to accidentally affect you, I think I'd have done it when you first touched me He says, not completely sure (and not completely comforting). This being his first test and all. I've only done it to Gregor when I was actively using them. ]
