Well I know an Emperor too, and he's the Emperor of everything times three. [ Suddenly and quite certainly: ] I'll just marry him.

[violentmotion]

What? Really?

[dendarii]

Uh huh, I totally will. I dunno how yet but I'll figure it out.

[ He's getting more animated as he starts planning this out. ]

[violentmotion]

You gonna conquer something? Slay a dragon?

[dendarii]

Nah, Gregor doesn't like that stuff. He's too nice. But he does like cream cakes.

[violentmotion]

You sure he's an emperor then? That sounds more like a queen.

[dendarii]

Excuse you, he's definitely the Emperor. He's allowed to like anything he wants.

[violentmotion]

He can like that as LONG as he's super awesome. Or flies a giant robot to save his space colony. Or like, leads the charge in a totally desperate battle against a bunch of persias.

[He jumps up and makes SPEARING MOTIONS IN THE AIR.]

[dendarii]

He's the most awesome. He could do all that AND like. Fight off the Cetagandans too.

[violentmotion]

[He rubs his cheek with the back of his hand, considering this RIVAL!!! Emperor who can do all of this dubiously.]

What's Cetagandans? Sounds like flowers.

[dendarii]

Maybe if flowers were evil and poisonous and radioactive.

[ Which actually describes some Barrayaran vegetation, let's be real here. ]

[violentmotion]

So like. Mutants?

[dendarii]

Yeah. They're all evil muties.

[ He frowns around that word though. ]

[violentmotion]

Then we just need to be better mutants. Like... get hit by meteors or bitten by radioactive lizards. Every bad guy's got a weakness that's a lot like it but DIFFERENT.

Comic book rules say so.

[dendarii]

[ Miles hesitates, not able to believe that immediately. ]

... Really? That's not how it is where I come from.

[violentmotion]

[Ikki puffs up a bit defensively at the doubt.] I can prove it.

[dendarii]

Okay, so prove it. I wanna see that.

[violentmotion]

OKAY! This way!

[This way is. Grabbing Miles by the shirt and dragging him off of the top of the skyscraper with him.]

[dendarii]

Wait, don't -

[ Okay even Miles is going to let out a yelp of terror over being dragged off the top of a skyscraper. All his links are getting a spike of fear for a moment here. ]

[violentmotion]

[The boy grins wildly and lets go of Miles' shirt and folds his arms against himself, diving madly faster towards the ground. Floors zoom by the two of them so fast they blur into a glittering rush...

And then the wind pushes Miles up, almost gently, slowing his decent to almost a stop before he lands on the back of the black crow as it circles, dipping under him.]

[dendarii]

[ It takes a moment for fear to shift into glee and awe, but it finally does - just as they approach the bottom of their fall. Miles manages a startled laugh as he lands gently on the bird's back and they're flying again. ]

-- Do it again! I wanna go again!

[violentmotion]

[The crow gives a triumphant squawk and soars back up into the air, passenger safely tucked away from the crosswinds... and it's perhaps the only safe part of the mad, freewheeling adventure. Because up near the low, cold clouds, Ikki turns the flight into a loop.]

[dendarii]

[ Another, fainter spike of fear intermixed with exhilaration. He's forced to suddenly cling onto this bird very tightly to keep from falling. ]

Whoa--!

[violentmotion]

[There's a RRRGGk sound from Ikki at the clutching fingers. As light as Miles is, both as a child and with such frail, porous bones, it's still a heavy pain between his wings. He struggles for a moment, and as he's righting himself, half of the handful of feathers pulls loose.]

[dendarii]

[ Oh no. Oh no no, that's not good. Even Miles' insane enthusiasm isn't enough to roll right over that particular problem. He cries out again in terror as one hand just gets air, the other one forced to hold on extra tight just to keep him upright. He can feel himself starting to fall off. A cry for help turn into a gasping gulp instead. ]
