[Metama2: revenge of the rhinolephants. First run to that stage, and he seems to have memorized the pattern by now, correctly dodging and timing the spike monsters.

But then. In comes that stupid tuskslinger, charging in and hopping around because, of course, both elephants and rhinos are known for their superior jumping capabilities. He doesn't die right away. Oh no. He just can't seem to hit it without taking damage.

The end of his first life looms on the horizon.]

[Ah-- the cute girl woke up!!! Maya flips the broom behind her back and turns her attention to Kururu, giving a bow.]

Good morning, miss! I'm sorry if I woke you up!

[A-HA! See? She knew it was an import. Maya's scrambling over to see him.]

You gonna clean it up now?

[She trails off quietly and inches forward in her seat, transfixed and practically holding her breath to see if he scrapes by this time or not.]

[ She rubs at her eyes, the sounds of righteous fury resolving into the familiar cadence of Ikki being scolded, and the broom hastily pulled behind Maya's back looking less and less like a spear.

And then the angel is bowing and that's just all kinds of wrong, and she scrambles a bit to sit up, her hair sticking out every which way. ]

No, it . . . it's fine, really, we're the ones imposing . . . !

Oh-- no, no, I don't really live here either.

[Maya laughs.]

[...wait, why is she still here?]

...Um, anyway, are you hungry or anything?

[Just gonna avoid finishing that thought by taking care of this couched cutie.]

[ It. It takes her a moment more. Mornings have never been her friend, they weren't her friend before she started living a stormrider's semi-nocturnal life and it's even worse now.

It doesn't even immediately register that the crow above her is really Ikki, and not just his shadow.

She rubs at her eyes, still half splayed-out where Ikki rolled her, trying to make sense of a world that's more than just the sound of his heartbeat. Why is there screaming there is so much screaming. It's not even his team, or sisters . . . ]

[ It's a small smile, a little bashful, but full of gratitude. He hand pats down her hair, trying to press it back into some form of vague respectability.

It's a bit futile; lost hair clips mingle with Ikki's feathers on the couch beside her, and without their weight the pink tufts just won't stay down.]

Breakfast would . . . actually be really nice. I didn't think we'd sleep this long . . .

[ She sits up carefully, feathers and lost hair clips shifting on the cushions beside her. Her fingers don't move past the area of 'this is okay', but the soft pets don't stop, either. ]

We're not . . . we're just imposing for a little while. It's been hard to get back to Heropa, and Kazu-kun . . . one of our friends is here.

Is . . .

[ She's jumped off buildings without a second thought, run into groups of armed marines, looked out at the city from the edge of the clocktower . . . but somehow, this is something that takes courage. ]

Is it all right if I pet your ears?

[Oh no she's SO CUTE. Look at that hair. Maya grins, beckoning with her hand.]

C'mon! I think there's still rice made. Let's get you something to eat while this guy cleans up.

[Because fuck if she's gonna do it.]

[ And just at that moment, her fingers feel something in her hair. One of Ikki's feathers, the shaft nothing at all like a hair clip.

She. She pulls it out, staring.

And then looks at the couch. And to the other side of the couch. And then around the room, at the hall, as if she's finally woken up enough to see the disaster around her. ]

Was there a fight? I didn't realize . . .

Oh, it's fine. That kid just made a mess of his feathers, so I'm making him clean it up.

[BECAUSE SHE CLEANED THIS PLACE UP LAST NIGHT, GOSH DANGIT

It's bad enough the bathroom tub is stained from hair dying adventures. This kind of mess just makes her anxious.]

[ He really shouldn't be moulting like this though, should he? Was it the season? Was he not eating right? Maybe there something his crow form needed that his human body didn't . . . ]

If he doesn't finish it, I'll help. But it's Ikki-kun . . . something like this shouldn't be hard at all, if he wants to.

[ She laughs a bit at that. It's just . . . it's familiar, or nostalgic, shades of Ringo and Mikan blending in the tones of Maya's voice.

Ringo's a long way away though. Everyone is. ]

I'd like to help, though. With something.

[ She picks her hair clips off the couch, brushing at least those feathers aside before she gets up. ]

He quickly tries to get something on every place now. Truth told, he's expecting the same bullshit nightmare that previous wave gave him.

When the wave comes in groups of countable ten at first, he's earnestly surprised. The towers take the first wave out fine. And then... then, like small winged puffballs riding the apocalypse, in come the fliers.

His structures are wrong. They didn't GIVE him anything that could hit them beyond the very basic one! What is he-

The game pauses. There's a tutorial now.

He may have been able to puzzle this out from context, but it being in Japanese makes everything so much easier.]

there's an aggressive sort of rustling from the edge of the bed as Tetsuo fights the good fight. if he strays from the game for a moment, he'll find that Hazel's pressed her face up against the bedspread as hard as she can; her shoulders are trembling mightily as she tries to quell her giggles.

this was a good idea. this was such a good idea. he's fucking adorable.]

[It shoots a tusk at him. He jumps too late, somehow managing to clip JUST underneath it as it zips by over his head. His character shoots hastily at the spot the tusk was attached to before it regenerates, taking damage when it does, never letting up fire anyway.

His health bar whittles down.

The rhinolephant hops backwards.

A few bullets deflect off the incoming tusk. Tetsuo's character jumps--

...and both explode into sparks.

Tetsuo growls something, frustrated, head tilting back to stare at the ceiling. Why.]

[ Those few words, and she lights up brighter than if he split the house open and shone a beam of sunlight directly on her. ]

It is!

Here—

[ She spreads a handkerchief on the floor, and uncouples the outer ring from the inner section. Both pieces go on the cloth between them, giving him a better view of the coiled wires and magnetizable metal hidden between the two.

It's not a standard outer rotor design by any stretch, but the base components are at least recognizable. She taps the central section first, and then the outer one. ]

The stator would attached to the main bolt, and this space is where the brake control and bearings would be. The rotor is the most interesting part, though.

[He's either oblivious to the skittishness or just straight up doesn't care. He has his back to the bed and the screen tilted up so that Tetsuo can look at what he's doing.]

You haven't taken the fighting gym, right? Flying and psychic is the way to go. You're gonna get trounced like this.
