Welcome to The Ashen Tree! This sleek, elegant private property leased out only occasionally for limited and exclusive events. The Ashen Tree is a five story, century-and-half old mansion down East 67th Street, constructed somewhat in the vein of those famed and excessive Vanderbilt houses. The theme inherent to The Ashen Tree is in black and white -- this duality means more than just visual aesthetic. There is right, and there is wrong. There is good and there is evil. There is Registered and there is Unsettled. This reoccurring dilemma won't be lost upon your hosts, governmental or otherwise.

The thrust of this Swearing In is to play a game! There will be two versions of this game. If you are newly imPorted (if this is the FIRST Swearing In that occurred since you have been ported in), then you are automatically entered into a raffle to win prizes! You can enter your name into the raffle ONCE for EVERY THREAD with A DIFFERENT CHARACTER that you have! How lucky you are! If you have BEEN here (if this is NOT the first Swearing In that occurred since you have been ported in), then you may only enter the raffle if you WIN at the game.

What is the game?

The Identity Game.

Every imPort who is in the DESIGNATED ROOMS: ROOT, TRUNK, BRANCH, and TWIGS will do their best to pretend to act like another imPort. If someone (who is also in character, just like you are) guesses what imPort you are pretending to be, then THEY may enter their name in the raffle. If you guess the pretend identity of someone else, then YOU get to enter your name in the raffle. There is no sign-up for who pretends to be whom, and there can be multiple imPorts impersonating the same imPort. That will not be regulated. The more you guess correctly someone's pretend identity (which can be achieved by threading with many people), the more you get to enter your name in the raffle. You MUST guess the identity of the imPort being impersonated correctly -- there is right and there is wrong. If someone guesses your character's impersonation correctly, then you have to tell them. You do not have to keep the same impersonation for the WHOLE LOG, but you do for at least a single thread! No changing up identity on someone. ANY imPort can play this game, INCLUDING new imPorts. While new imPorts can play the Guessing Game, or impersonate other imPorts to their desire, their eligibility to enter the raffle is still judged differently. Because they're new!

The LEAVES ROOM is the "safe" zone. You can be yourself! You can stop pretending! Well, maybe some imPorts never actually stop pretending -- maybe there is some gray between all this black and white.

[How absolutely precious, innocent. Mairon has little experience dealing with the Secondborn (aside from corrupting and killing them) but even in such a time, they still seem young.]

[ There's a brief moment of silence while she considers his comment, and then, with a nod, decides that must be the reason why the simple lights are so alluring. ]

Oh! You're right! They certainly do stand out amongst all of the dark furniture. [ As starts brighten a night sky. ]

They certainly do. [He looks around, a faint grin crossing his features. It's the most he can allow himself to do.]

There was a time once when there were only stars to light the sky of my world.

It must have been very beautiful. [ She closes her eyes to visualize the endless amount of starts that must appear. Living in the city, it is not often that she can see such a site. ]

[dreadedone]

[He might have thought so once.]

It was a sight worth remembering. What a shock it was for the Firstborn when the Moon and Sun rose for the first time, and Men woke with them.

[honeyxlemon]

[ Excuse her confusion towards that last bit there. ] Firstborn?

[dreadedone]

The Eldar. [Hang on, he takes a moment to think. As if he doesn't remember the other name for the race, as if they're still new for him.] Ah, elves you might call them.

[honeyxlemon]

Elves..? [ She adjusts her glasses as she makes a mental note that elves do in fact exist. Okay. ]

How interesting.

[dreadedone]

That is right. Are there none here or where you are from?

[Because he might just laugh. The proud Noldor and the Teleri and Sindar, wiped out on other worlds.]

[honeyxlemon]

People know about elves, but they're just characters in stories. That's how it is in my world, at least. There might be elves here.

[dreadedone]

Just in stories? [He can't help the laugh he lets out but it sounds amused at least, rather than cruel.] I can hardly imagine. What kind of stories?

[honeyxlemon]

[ She taps her lower lip with her forefinger as she considers the different myths and legends that surround them. ] There's a bunch of stories about them where they make toys and cookies. Or they're seen as magical. Oh, and I guess they always look different depending on the story.

[dreadedone]

Make toys and cookies, hm? [This is just too good.] Sounds like quite a tale, I shall have to learn a bit more.

[honeyxlemon]

I'm sure someone else could tell you're more about it better than I could! [ She says while laughing. It isn't exactly her area. ]

[dreadedone]

I suppose they could. Such a shame though, I would not mind hearing the tales from you, dear lady.

[honeyxlemon]

[ With a shrug, she adjusts her glasses, still smiling. ] Oh, I'm not that good of a story teller!

[dreadedone]

If you are sure, I will not press. [He's sure someone else will cave and tell him a few stories.]

What are you good at then?

[honeyxlemon]

I love chemistry! [ Amongst other things, but she figured that would be the most interesting information. The last person she spoke to about her hobbies was not so interested in her passion for cooking and fashion design. ]

[dreadedone]

Chemistry? [His look is blank. There's nothing like that in Middle Earth or Valinor. Not that he's ever heard of.]

What is that?

[honeyxlemon]

[ Her eyes widen, but no so much in disbelief as it is excitement. Explaining chemistry to someone who has never heard of it before? Sounds fun to her! ]

It is the science of composition, structure, properties, and reactions of matter!

[dreadedone]

I am sorry but that helps very little. I do not know what science is either.

[Something to fix in the time he's here. He can't remain naive of information here and it's something he can take back with him to Middle Earth.]

[honeyxlemon]

[ She crosses her arms, shifting her weight to one leg as she attempts to figure out a simplified definition. Not to say that this man isn't intelligent, but what is the best way to describe it to someone who has never heard of it. Then, after a few seconds, she smiles. ]

Science is trying to figure out how the world works.

[dreadedone]

Oh, I see. I know how it worlds fairly well but I never really had a term like that for it. [Okay, it isn't quite science, or really anything like it, but he knows his world and much of how it works since its earliest days.]

[honeyxlemon]

Then maybe you know more about science than you think! [ She realizes her explanation was, perhaps, too simplified, but she'd be more than happy to further explain. ]

Perhaps I do! I would not mind learning a bit more though. [A bit vague but good enough to give him an idea. And she's clearly someone knowledgeable that he can defer to in the future.]
