She comes in during a time she figures the bakery won't be too busy. She waits for the person in front of her to finish their purchase before sliding up to the counter to give Gil a big grin.]
How's it goin' Hotstuff?

He's only turned for a second, so when he glances back and sees Kenzi at the front he gently startles. His hair, as usual, is tied back and covered by a hair net. His apron is a little messier than usual; cherry and lemon filling have gotten over most of it. Then there's the flour and crumbs. He feels a bit silly right now with the mess all over his work clothes, but his surprise gives away to some delight at seeing her. ]
Ah... Kenzi. I thought you would be at work still.
no subject
Naw, took off early and had a craving for some baked goods.
no subject
What would you like? We have a lot left over from the morning.
[ He sounds a bit disappointed when he gestures to the main display packed full of baked goods. ]
It's been a slow day. There's only so much we can all take home at the end of the day.
no subject
How about one of everything with chocolate? [She's kidding. Right?]
no subject
[ He's very much not inclined to pack everything chocolate-coated or filled into a box, as she's predicted. ]
Here, you should try the pecan danish.
[ But as he stoops to the bottom shelf of the display and is about to pick up a small danish with the waxy paper, he changes his mind at the last second and starts reaching for the bear claws.
Again, he stops. ]
No, maybe... the sweet biscuits?
no subject
She moves around to the side of the counter so she can see what he's going for.]
Whatever you think is best.
no subject
He should probably use mouthwash more than twice a day... ]
Alright, hrm...
[ He moves over to the other side of the display and takes out a small basket of these goodies. ]
Try the canelé. It's flavored with vanilla and chocolate. [ He sets it on the counter. ] We're only making them for this week. The owner wanted to try something new and see what customers liked the best.
no subject
She eyes the basket before taking one of the treats from it and popping it in her mouth.]
Only this week? That's too bad, they're really good.

[ The bakery is a sort of family establishment. Plus the owners themselves are old; some habits are hard to break. Nonetheless, Gil looks relieved to hear they taste good. ]
I can bake them at home, if you want. I can ask for a copy of the recipe.
no subject
[To the offer she grins at him and nods.] Yes, get a copy. [Did he really think she'd say no to him making something for her?]
no subject
[ Won't somebody think of the children?
Gil steps back from the counter, glancing at the large clock hanging over the wall behind him. He's still got about half an hour before his shift is done and just as he turns to face Kenzi again, the bell above the door jingles, indicating another customer walking through the doorway. ]
Do you want to wait? I'm going to be a while before I finish up my shift.
no subject
She glances over at the door before smiling at Gil.] Sure. I don't mind waiting for a little bit.
no subject
[ He gestures for her to move aside to allow the other customer some room to make their order. An older man, but he doesn't appear to be in any rush, even with the list of pastries he'll be picking up from the shop today. ]
... try not to eat all of those.
[ Save some canelé for the other customers! ]

He looks over his shoulder cautiously, ensuring the owners aren't hovering around so he can double-check the guns in his coat pockets. Given the past week, let alone month, Gil has felt much more comfortable with the familiar weight of his guns in his coat.
Eventually, he steps out from kitchen area, fingers reaching for the little hair tie to let his hair down. ]
Sorry, I didn't want to leave a whole mess for everyone else to clean. [ He gestures to the display. ] Did you decide on what you wanted to take home?
no subject
S'a'ight. [She slides over to his side to give him a quick peck on the cheek now that there isn't a counter between the two of them.] Aaaah... I still want everything chocolate.
no subject
How much chocolate do you need? Sure, it's good for your heart, but too much is never good.

... plus he might have wanted a couple of scones for himself. They're excellent with home brewed tea or coffee.
He closes the box, puts it into a plastic bag and steps around the counter to join her. ]
Well, don't eat them all in one sitting. I'll have to start hiding them if you do.
no subject
You really think you can hide food from me? [Sounds like a challenge she might actually try for, Gil.]
no subject
[ He strolls over to the door, pulling it open for Kenzi and waiting for her to step out before he follows after her.
The air is crisp and fresh, but cool as expected for spring weather. There's a strong wind that runs through the street, forcing Gil to push his shoulders upwards momentarily until it passes, though he moves close enough to Kenzi to prevent most of the cold wind from hitting her directly. ]
Did you want to head straight to the apartment, or did you need to go someplace first?
no subject
With Gil so close she loops an arm around his to keep it that way.]
I don't have anywhere I need to be. You?
no subject
His face grows warm as she presses close to him and he swallows a tad nervous, otherwise he smiles shyly and walks with her, not pulling away from her hold. ]
Not really. I think I've had enough adventures outdoors to last me a few months.
no subject
Then lets head home.
