I'm not used to it, that's all. I've got longer legs than you do.

[ He tilts his head, trying to get a read on the music that's playing that would translate into dance moves -- he's unfamiliar with any of the songs playing, but everyone else already dancing is a decent enough of a guideline. ]

Can you dance like that with a partner? Or do you just dance near one?

[It's not (just) about dem legs, it's how you rock dat skirt!

Kay listens while sipping the last of her punch, looking far too serious than she should. Then she leaves her glass on a nearby table.]

Either way works. I'm good with either, just saying.

[ Well maybe with more practice! Or at least a nicer color palette, but what does he know from fashion, really.

Reiner offers Kay his hand. ]

Well, we can figure it out. It'll have to be mostly improvisation anyway.

[yatagarasu]

[And Kay takes it.]

What really matters is that we have fun. And improvisation is fun!

[soldiarity]

It can be.

[ But he's not disagreeing. Reiner's moves are stemmed in what he knows of traditional dances from home (though they weren't always bound by formality, obviously in the military they moved more loosely; it all depended on the mood and the music). ]

I'm not great at dancing, so just kick my ankles or something if I do something stupid.

[yatagarasu]

Don't be silly, I won't do anything like that. [She shakes her head.]

[soldiarity]

It's just a suggestion. I don't want to hurt you on accident or anything.

[ Which is perhaps evident in how carefully he moves, given the size difference. Reiner may be big, but he's aware of that bigness enough not to be clumsy with it. ]

[yatagarasu]

[Kay lets him lead, keeping in time with the music.]

If you're always this careful when you dance, I don't think that'll happen. [She's more amused than anything.]

[soldiarity]

I'm not, but I don't usually have a partner, either. I don't have the right practice.

[ But, caution aside, he gets into the swing of it reasonably quickly, moving them along at a reasonable rhythm. It's fun, if very mildly stressful keeping track of where his limbs go with each movement. ]

[Kay follows, maintaining her rhythm; at least she looks like she's having fun. She glances discreetly at her feet once but other than that, she seems to have pretty good control of her footwork.]

You should practice whenever you can. It's good exercise, too.

[soldiarity]

[ Reiner glances at his own feet as well, just making sure they're not stepping anywhere they shouldn't be. Overall, it isn't difficult to maintain what they're doing; he's a fast study, at least. ]

Ah, I don't have anyone to practice with -- Annie's in a dance class, but she'd hate teaching me. [ But he looks at Kay curiously. ] Good exercise? Really? Why not just exercise normally?

[yatagarasu]

[For her part, at least Kay doesn't tread all over his feet or bump into him.]

Some people aren't into the regular kind of exercise. Anyway, your body gets a workout either way.

I've always been fine with it -- probably why I never had to learn much about dancing in the first place. Unless I was trying to impress someone, but...

[ He laughs, using one hand to hold his dress down at the sides so it doesn't flap uncomfortably as they move. He's tall enough that the risk of accidentally inappropriate twirling is higher than it might be on someone the costume was actually intended to fit. ]

Do you dance much?

[yatagarasu]

[On the other hand, Kay's costume is short and slitted, but at the same time she has shorts underneath, so she can twirl all she wants.]

Well, not everyday, but back home, I play games where you have to dance to win. And of course, when there's a party like this, I just gotta dance!

[soldiarity]

Ah, really? What kind of games?

[ He's a competitive enough person to be interested in hearing about that. ]

What happens when you win?

[yatagarasu]

[EXCELLENT.]

Oh...have you ever been to an arcade? One of those places with flashy electronic games you play?

[soldiarity]

An arcade?

[ He blinks, and shakes his head. ]

No. But I've tried video games before. How are those something you can dance to?

[yatagarasu]

[She gives him a knowing smile.]

You'd be surprised. Rhythm is a very important video game skill.

[soldiarity]

Really. How's that? Reflexes I'd get, but how are you supposed to dance while you're playing a game?

[ He wonders if she's messing with him. ]

[yatagarasu]

Some of the game machines can detect your movements, and you gotta match the right moves.

[She's not. Really. REALLY.]

[soldiarity]

What, really?

[ He looks both skeptical and surprised, disbelieving. That sounds too incredible to be true. ]

Just with dancing, or with other things, too?

[yatagarasu]

Detecting a person's movements? Yeah, it works with other gadgets.

We should get out and try one of those games sometime. [Kay gives her feet the quickest of glances to be sure she's still on rhythm while talking to him.]

[soldiarity]

[ He glances down at their feet, too, managing to stay in step with her. It's a little challenging, given that they're mostly winging it, but they're pulling it off. ]

Hey, sounds great -- count me in. I like to give new things like that a try. Where would we go for something like that?

[THEY'RE ABSOLUTELY OWNING IT.]

I'll show you the best arcades in Heropa. They've got virtual reality - you put on a helmet, and you feel like you're moving and fighting in another world. Cool, huh?

[ HEROPA'S GOT TALENT, HERE THEY COME. ]

More than just cool... that's amazing. [ He sounds -- and looks -- appropriately impressed. ] I'll believe all that when I see it for myself. If how good we're dancing right now is anything to go by, we definitely have to do it.
