All the time! Probably with more actual deadly threats than this one'll have, but it'll do.

I think the less deadly threats the better, considering it's a holiday. [ He says it thoughtfully, though with a hint of uncertainty that suggests, mostly, that he doesn't fully understand what is or isn't normal or appropriate for Halloween. ] ... At least that was my understanding. What kind are you expecting?
no subject
I'm expecting this one to be safe. Like you said, since it's a holiday and everything. First time for you?

[ He smirks, though. Whether Dick is joking or not, the idea at least doesn't make Reiner nervous. He nods after a moment. ]
Yeah. So far so good, I think -- it doesn't seem so bad. Do people like being scared that much?

[ Does he know? ]
It's like that. But also there are plastic skeletons.
no subject
[ Which are obviously a very important part. He glances back to the haunted house and gestures with his arm. Not that he isn't interested to keep the conversation going, but they can walk and talk just as well; no sense in holding things up. ]
All right, then: after you.
no subject
[ Cheerily, he heads through the creaky door that leads inside the haunted house, bowing exaggeratedly for the lovely Princess Reiner. ]
Milady.
no subject
Listen, say whatever you want, but I'm not like other princesses.
[ He gives Dick a rough but companionable clap on the shoulder. ]
Nervous at all?
no subject
Not yet. You?
[ Somewhere up ahead in the dark and the fake fog, the cheesy Halloween soundtrack cues up a wolf howl. ]
no subject
[ Though he's still smirking, he gives Dick a look that says, "but they don't do that here, right?" ]
If they don't let us in here with weapons, it can't be that bad.
no subject
[ Spooooooky spirit fingers. ]
no subject
[ He's taking you seriously, Dick, suddenly looking around them a little skeptically. ]
Are you any good with your bare hands, then?
no subject
Hmmmm. [ He appears to be giving this great thought. ] Well, I could probably take out a reanimated skeleton. Or a spooky evil nurse, if she was under five foot seven or so and she didn't have a bone saw.
What about you?
no subject
Oh, yeah. That'd be no sweat -- unless they had us completely surrounded, I can hold my own. But anything more than twice our size and hungry might still be a challenge.
[ Wait. Reanimated skeletons... evil nurse... Reiner's face goes a bit red and he looks at Dick with realization, looking both frustrated and sheepish. ]
Ah, wait. You were making a joke, huh?
no subject
Just a little bit. [ He pats Reiner's princessly bicep. ] But hey! It's good to know you've got this.
no subject
[ He recovers quickly, shaking his head and smiling back -- no hard feelings. So he jokes back: ]
But if you hurt your ankle in here tripping over a plastic skeleton, you're in good company. I'll just carry you out over my shoulder.

Then, with a laugh: ]
Let's hope it doesn't come to that. Or the other way around would be even worse.

[ This next door is a jump scare door, isn't it? It's toootally a jump scare door. He can feel it with every inch of his Bat training (and a whole bunch of cheesy horror movies under his belt, too). ]
If something pops out of the shadows, try not to punch it. [ He shouldn't have to say it, but then, he remembers Jaime decking that clown in the hay maze... ]
no subject
[ Instinct tells Reiner that something is up ahead, but he's not Haunted House-savvy enough to know particularly what; his muscles tense slightly in reflexive reaction, but he keeps his arms to his sides and his hands loose and not in fists at Dick's advice. ]
Sure, I won't-- [ And he doesn't, but the jump scare startles him that he jumps backward, grabbing Dick's arm and nearly yanking the other boy behind him. He manages not to go quite that far, though. ] Shit! What the hell was that?!
no subject
Wow! You really are a first timer.
no subject
[ It's mild irritation mostly born of embarrassment that colors his tone; although he likes Dick well enough so far, this whole venture so far seems mostly an exercise in proving that Reiner needs to relax. No matter how he might joke and crack wise and shrug things off, the other side to that is how seriously he can take things, as well. (Too seriously.) ]
It's just instinct, I'll get the hang of it. [ He realizes he's still holding onto Dick's arm and lets him go with a short laugh. ] At least now I know better.
