[well...he can do effort, at the very least. and isn't this whole party supposed to be about enjoying himself through new experiences? Jonathan hesitates a moment longer, then decides to just give it a go anyway and obligingly follows Annie's instructions.]

[ She indicates to him when they're supposed to shuffle walk the other way, more of a stomp than anything else. It's helped by the reality that most those out here right now seem to have a vague idea of how this ridiculous dance is supposed to go, meaning he has his pick of people to imitate, should he so choose. ]

I think foot stepping is expected when you're the shuffling dead.

[ She's either serious or joking on a very subtle level. ]

[yeah, you can bet your ass that he's trying to keep an eye on as many people as possible in addition to Annie's prompting in order to at the very least not halt the flow of the dance with his inadequacy.]

All the same, I doubt many of them would enjoy having the limp made permanent.

[ hah. Annie looks him over, as if she really needs to assess his size overall to reach an agreement. ]

You are pretty big. We might have to limit you to stepping on feet of people like Ira Gamagori and Alex Armstrong. They're more equivalent in size. [ And without any indication of the segue other than starting her own turn: ] Turn in a circle pivoting on your left leg, keeping your right knee locked.

[Jonathan stutters at the sudden turn, visibly lags behind, but manages to at least keep from running into anyone else and catching up relatively quickly.]

I'd really rather not step on anyone if I can help it.

At your size, you're more likely to bowl people over. But you're fine.

[ She lifts her arms over her head and claps, which... more or less is in time and tune with the rest. Whatever, this is much less of coordinated partner effort than ballroom dance! Looking awkward through it actually works. ]

Most imPorts seem to be good at dodging.

[yeah, he completely misses that one. it just makes Jonathan redouble his efforts, though, so he's on point with whatever is coming next. for all the confusion, this is actually a lot of fun.]

Hopefully that hasn't come from past experiences!

[ They've more or less gone through a cycle of the dance moves, meaning it definitely stays easier as it turns into a repetition of the same actions from before! ]

Some here, most from back home. No Risen - er, zombies - though. Or dance partners.

It's probably for the best. They don't make for very pleasant company at parties.

[oh, is that...all there is to it? nothing new now? he might...actually start getting the hang of this. oh god.]

[ Annie's just here to help teach the most relevant dance of this age: Thriller.

Now go convince all your later generations to join in dancing with you, Jonathan, nothing can ever go wrong! ]

They do tend to fall apart on you. Or eat you.

[ Vaguely amused as she is, being eaten is not actually funny. At all. And she doesn't find it humorous, except in very dark ways. #titan lyfe ]

[Jonathan meanwhile just has that sort of bright disposition where he can take zombie threats seriously while still shying away from dark humor. he's a ~~loser~~ special kid.]

It really is an inconvenience, especially to clean up.

[ Cleaning up dead bodies... Annie really doesn't enjoy that thought. She's done it in the days following the attack on Trost. She doesn't let herself remember the sights, or smells, right now. She makes a noise probably lost under the volume of the music, agreeing with his statement. Bodies are a mess to clean up after, especially en masse. ]

At least Lucifer is gone for now. Makes it a little less probable for a repeat.

[Lucifer..? Jonathan assumes that this is just a seasonal joke rather than anything actually serious and lets it roll off his back. this entire conversation is just made up of summer children.]

That's good to hear. I'd much rather have my time taken up with less troublesome activities.

[ no better way to dance to Thriller than as sweet summer children all up in conversation-town. the song winds down, about thirty seconds from setting them both free into the wilds of this, er. party. thing. ]

Around here, what exactly do you consider those less troublesome activities to be?

[ half curious, half a tease, and then somehow half serious because man she does not want to deal with zombies without minds (or... with them) again, unless she has to. ]

I'd like to say nearly anything else, but I seem to find some way to make even the most harmless of activities complicated for myself.

[despite the self-admitted garbage luck, he seems to be taking the whole thing as a very amusing joke.]

I've never let something like that stop me for very long. It may keep occurring, but it won't get the best of me.

[ .........she tries to make that last sound upbeat. it sounds more... uncertain. HOW DO YOU SAY "GOOD ON YOU FOR NOT BEING DEAD YET" the only way she knows how is to say "how the hell are you not dead yet" and that seems awkward with someone she barely knows and thus isn't all that invested in because #annie people's right ]

[ red strings really only are meant for strangling, come now. though what he says reminds her of... people. important people. how tied up the people she knows are in personal relationships, and how hard they'll fight for those people they want to protect. ]
