WHO: The AvenJuniors
WHERE: Jamieron McGillen's - the totally ~authentic~ diner right up in the Big Apple.
WHEN: Sept. 26, morning-ish?
WHAT: If you gotta have a team meeting, you gotta do it right. Or: somehow a tradition of talking whilst eating breakfast foods emerged and no one's complained yet, shh David, that doesn't count. ( not a song by fall out boy )
WARNINGS: None, yet.
[ america hasn't actually, for all her time being on this earth, come to visit its version of nyc that often. it doesn't hold the same nostalgic resonance for her as it might for some others, so her visits mainly coincide with duty calling (or at the very least, k-bbq she seriously can't seem to find anywhere else).
sometimes duty is being added to group convos about breakfast meetings and this place they've all totally got to check out. like, it's really good. really, really good, if the way the entire conversation derailed is anything to go by.
she touches down just a block down from where she's meant to be meeting the others, glad that the foot traffic is sparse enough for no one to bat an eye when she does, and begins making her way to what she hopes is the final, decided location. (she refuses to fly all the way back to florida -- or at least, she won't be doing it on an empty stomach). ]

It's home, or the replica of her home in a different world.
She pulls her hair back into a pony tail as she heads inside to claim a table, knowing that it would be a good idea for her to ensure that they have a big enough one for everyone.
Once she does that, she orders coffee for everyone at the table, so that they have it waiting for them when they arrive. What a good team leader, right?]

or at least that's what america might think once she steps inside the place, forgoing the server's offer to be seated somewhere with a quick glance at where she spots the other girls sitting. her pace isn't rushed as she walks towards the long table - good to know she isn't going to be the last one to drop in. lacking her usual instant travel abilities had skewed up her travel times when she'd first gotten here, but she's getting used to it.
america raises a hand in greeting before stuffing it back into the pockets of her hoodie and is glad that kate's managed to secure them a spot where they'll all be able to sit and chat freely. ]
You got here quick. [ she slides into a spot near the other girl, an almost fond smile on her face when she realizes that her coffee order's already waiting for her. ]

[Kate hasn't experimented much with her teleportation, but one thing she knows for certain is that it's hard. She's fairly certain that despite making a note to bring her MP3 player with her just in case, it somehow got lost in translation.
Thankfully, she was leaving from Matt's office, so it's likely sitting on the floor. Hopefully, none of his clients snatch it.
As it is, America's a site for sore eyes. Having called her in the most embarrassing way possible before getting here, she can't help but be relieved that she's here now. If only that whole mess really could have been resolved with a kick in the face.
Since none of the boys are there yet, she can ask about that, though.]
And I've got a question. Do you remember any ... five AM phone calls from me? [Somehow, she thinks that America would probably keep it to herself if she had, so it's worth asking.]
BUSINESS TIME
No, first, she begins with tapping her spoon along the side of her cup.]
We should get down to business, everyone.
[She picks up the list to show them that she does have a plan in mind. They did this over breakfast in the months of universal running around and eventual dimensional jumping, but it's been a while.
It's time they got back on track.]

[ Loki takes the moment to look up from his pancakes, leaning his hand on his palm and waving his fork like this is some kind of thing. ]

What do we have on the docket? Main things I have in progress right now are Chilton and Ward. [ now he glances at loki. ] But, surprise surprise, those turned out related anyway.

First, I want to figure out how to keep us visually active. It got brought up recently that we're apparently too secretive. I want people to know there's at least one active team out there that's dedicated to helping.
[It's the first thing on her list, and she seems to list that off at length so they can discuss it.
After a beat, she raises another finger.]
We need to discuss our intentions with the nullifier. We're not the only ones with one. I'd like to discuss known suspicious individuals next, and that includes our great friend Doctor Chilton. [The sarcasm is thick on that statement.] But not only him. Anyone else who's turned up, or anyone who's been suspiciously quiet, like Norman Osborn. [Here, she looks at Loki.]
Finally, there's the whole mess of whatever's going on with the Hornets, the government, those disappearances and ... well, that's like tangled yarn. I think we can maybe separate some tasks among ourselves there. [So she's not doing a lot of it alone. Doing it alone is a bad move, probably. Her perspective becomes skewed, and she needs the help.]

I think we have some projects that almost demand secrecy. It's easier to investigate when the target doesn't realize you're investigating them. [ as he already mentioned to her with chilton, and getting further with ward is going to be extremely precarious. controlling what he might know about david is going to be pivotal. ] But I'm sure there have to be ways that we can get more involved as a group. Those of us who have costumes, at least. It's what we do.
[ he didn't come with his on hand, and still hasn't gotten around to fixing that. ]
I do have a few ideas about the nullifier. I think there are two main things we need out of it, one is to develop some way to cancel it out. The other is a way to duplicate it. We can't deny that there are going to be circumstances where something like that will come in handy.

here they were again, surrounding a cheap diner table and eating pancakes and drinking coffee. by this time he was certain that if he ever turned tail, that they'd hunt him down like owners who'd lost their jerkish cat (the same that had knocked over the glass of water the night prior).
he listens to the chatter and stuffs his face with pancakes to make the feelings go away. ]

Being quiet doesn't suit you.
[ or rather, being such a passive participant never did. if anyone was the type to hang back and watch the antics of their team, it'd be america herself. ]
no subject
Did you say something?
[ and then he steals a sausage off of her plate. ]
no subject
Something bothering you?
[ it's what her initial assumption is, though she's not sure how on the nose she might be. maybe loki's finally learned the virtues of listening actively in a conversation, or maybe he's planning something as they speak, but something tells her that might not be the case. ]
no subject
Mm, no. This is the first time we've had a business-oriented get-together, isn't it?
[ it's nogalistic, but he doesn't say that. ]
—Actually, now that you mention it. This coffee's a little burnt.
no subject
It won't be that if we never actually get to the business part of it.
[ kate, or david, or someone will get them back on track eventually, but it doesn't look like it for the time being. still, the point loki brings up is an interesting one — they'd kind of split ways back home too and she knows she's never been the stick around and be chummy sort. having their own lives and things to keep them busy didn't help either. not like when they'd had to drop everything to go chasing after the patri-not anyways.
yeah, she gets it, in a way, but it's still weird to think of loki so openly showing how its making him feel. ]
Adds to the authenticity. [ or so she's quoting. back on topic though: ] It's hard not to miss being together with everyone.
[ just in case he was too. ]
no subject
I didn't say "miss." [ he says as if he hadn't meant "miss." there is so much ugh in his voice. ]
no subject
he doesn't order any food, not being able to afford it, just a cup of coffee. he sits there stirring in his creamer quietly, not exactly subtle about how happy he isn't to be there. ]
