WHO: Billy Kaplan, Kate Bishop, Loki
WHERE: Loki's apartment.
WHEN: 9/16/14
WHAT: Kate's return! Continuation from this thread.
WARNINGS: Spoilers for Hawkeye #20.
[The moment they appear in a new setting, Kate looks up and tries to steady herself. She thinks to tell Loki about her new power. It occurs to her, but she decides that will come later. Right now, she'd much rather complain about how annoying S.H.I.E.L.D. happens to be. She'd also rather talk about how much Harold screwed her over when it came to them, but she's not really sure where to begin.]
I think it's more that they don't believe in fun. You've met them, right?
[It's apparent in her tone that she is not their biggest fan right now. The fact that they're just going to sweep the entire Madame Masque case under a rug and act as if it's nothing frustrates her. Their condescending reminder that this has nothing to do with her is even worse. All of that rests heavily on her shoulders.
With a sigh, she starts up the stairs, and it's obvious from how she's carrying herself that she's trying to pull herself together and shake off the fatigue.]

In passing.
[ of course he had, but he had always been a step ahead. he would even daresay it went a little further at one time. well, that wasn't good for anyone, was it?
he steps in front of the door, waves his hand with another mutter of a spell, before putting a hand on the handle to open it. (it wasn't entirely evident, but he kinda sorta locked Billy in.) ]
Ah, I found someone while I was out. You can leave the bed to the one who owns it.
[ he says in an especially snotty fashion as he passes through the door. ]

I told you that you could have just-
[He doesn't finish that thought, though, because suddenly, right then, his sense Kate spell goes off, or he sees her, it isn't entirely clear because suddenly he is literally flying across the room-]
Kate, oh my god-
[And he's hugging her like maybe if he keeps doing that she won't leave again.]

Then again, he's going to notice the fact that she's literally recently been in a fight, and unlike anything the Young Avengers frequently go through, she's definitely come out worse for wear. A team works well together and ends up the better for it. But this? This isn't the same thing. She's definitely been working alone.]
It was just temporary. [It's said like a promise. Even though this whole thing is a mess, she can promise not to ditch her best friend again.]

and he heads over to the kitchen to make some coffee, because if they don't need it, at least on the surface level, he does. so he fiddles with the small second-hand coffee maker from the counter to the stove like a grudgingly put-out host. ]
The Porter is a bit capricious in attitude.
[ coffee maker water boiling go. ]

Maybe she's mad I flirted with her really badly.
[It's a totally legitimate theory. But back to Kate - he lets go of her but doesn't move away, really. He's still close, as if he suddenly sensed she was going he could leap out and grab her and go with.]
What happened to you?
[That's in a concerned tone, because suddenly he realizes she is not Okay]

Let's sit first. I think sitting is a good idea.
[And if they're sitting, Loki can contemplate going to the other room to sleep in his bed for once.
Though he might want to listen.]
More stuff happened in Los Angeles, but I might want to begin at the top so I don't leave anything out.

[ Loki says smoothly, a split moment before Kate speaks to make sure that he gets the last word. that's his cue to quiet down. he was good enough at the art of eavesdropping to know exactly what it was time for Loki to be convincing and when it was time for Loki to shut his trap and listen.
this was the latter. ]

Not that Billy knows this.
So now he is continuing the "ignore Loki" game.]
Why were you in Los Angeles?

["Boys are stupid" was a great motivating factor, but she doesn't want to tell Billy that. It's not as if Billy happened to be one of the stupid ones. But needing some new scenery and a place that she could pick on her own was a good idea after everything went down.]

[He hears boys are stupid and handily discounts himself from that equation: Kate has been pretty good about telling him when he's being dumb, and besides, it's not like he's going to sleep with her anytime soon, so-
Right.
He takes a mug and puts a sugar cube into it.]
Thanks, Loki.
[He can be a gracious host.]
So you went to Los Angeles and...fought with a shark?
[What? LA = beach = sharks]

[For a moment, she blinks at Billy, and she finally shakes her head.]
It wasn't a shark. It was Madame Masque. Apparently, she's in charge of all of the crime that goes on in Los Angeles, and she controls everyone there. She has a life model decoy business that allows her to grant people eternal life as they get their minds transplanted into them. I took up a PI gig there, and every case I ended up on somehow linked back to her.
[All of that is the easier stuff. She considers the rest, and how she'll explain it. Kate doesn't mind explaining "it turns out my dad is actually evil" to Billy or Loki, it's just getting there.]
Since I'd already made her mad, this wasn't exactly a great thing. So, she started to do ... stuff, like she burned down the trailer I was temporarily living in. Oh, yeah, my dad cut me off right along the way, so that's why I had to take this up in the first place. [That's important information.]
I tried to get even, but it didn't work. S.H.I.E.L.D. busted in, but not before I found out that my dad was actually one of her clients. Turns out that he's behind a lot of the crap Clint had been dealing with at home, and that he was a part of a hit on Clint's head. [So, her dad is evil.]

Your dad?
Is Clint okay?
[None of this is okay, why didn't anyone call him, what is going on back in New York?]
no subject
[That's the most she knows. There's more that she can ask, but she doesn't actually know where to begin.]
But yeah, my dad. Almost a certified supervillain. I guess it was my time to join in on that kind of weirdness.
no subject
....do you need a hug?
no subject
Let's hug again.
[Deal with it, Loki.]
