[Tanabata, kryptonite, fae, horrifying interdimensional abominations... it's been a busy few weeks on parallel Earth. Fuu had been hoping for a less chaotic few days after that.

Maybe she will get that... but not yet, because Hikaru isn't here anymore. Fuu meanders around, easily found in the park (possibly practicing her archery), or at a bookstore or along one of the storefront streets. Or you might find her at her favorite sushi restaurant, more interested than usual in having a taste of home.]

Castles & Chimerae (open)

[Fuu is at the Two-Dimensional Adventureporium this afternoon, ready for an open session. It's a simple one-session adventure that she hopes will draw in new players for a longer campaign.

Today, the scenario is based on Robin Hood--in fact, players will take the part of a Jolly Man in the band of Sparrow Cowl, stealing from the rich and giving to the poor in the forest. Simple, right?]

There are so many questions here, clearly. But to answer them, Fuu will have to escort her new companion inside before the police spot her and take her in.]

On this Earth, at least, it's customary to leave garbage disposals on the ground. [She motions for Peridot to walk ahead of her, back into the bookstore.] If I might ask... why did you find it necessary to throw one anywhere?

[Peridot slinks in like a cat and finds herself a table with various staff picks laid out that she can hide behind.]

I was... showing off my metal powers on the request of someone I spoke to on the network. In my defense, it was empty. It wasn't even serving its intended purpose at the time. So I... Repurposed it.

[Peridot's appearance is terribly conspicuous, but at least she's short. Fuu spends a few moments thinking as Peridot explains--she's obviously not human, and as far as Fuu can judge, she doesn't exactly sound like a child, either. So... someone from an entirely different species? Maybe there really isn't anything unusual about doing something like that where she's from.]

Ah... in the future, you may want to repurpose something a little smaller. [She smiles brightly.] Humans are rather fragile. We tend to become rather alarmed when we see large metal objects flying through the air, whether they're empty or not.

I know. [There's a level of such deep, deep concern in her voice. Concern and maybe even pity.] Every time I learn just how fragile you are, I become even more amazed you've survived as a species.

[Ooh. Is that a book on aliens? She recognizes the bulbous heads and the eyes swollen with thoughts. Distracted, she picks that up.] That's a sincere compliment, by the way.

[In a backhanded sort of way.]

[Oh, my. Fuu can't help but smile at the tone of voice used for the "compliment."]

I suppose it is impressive when you look at it that way. We certainly lack the natural defenses and weaponry that other animals possess. But that's why we invented suits of armor, I suppose.

[For a moment she's about to ask what her new friend is, but remembers that she hasn't actually introduced herself.]

My name is Fuu, by the way. What's yours?

Apparently, they don't wear those anymore. I can't believe they'd let them fall out of fashion! [She's been to a Ren Faire! She knows things!

Oh right. Introductions.] Oh! I'm Peridot. I'm newly arrived to this Earth, and serving as the Crystal Gem representative here.

Ah! Welcome to Earth, Miss Peridot. [The name does quite suit her, Fuu thinks, as she gives a polite bow.] I'm not familiar with the title Crystal Gem. Is it an organization from your homeworld?

As for the armor, I believe it has to do with weapons technology advancing beyond it. They're a little too heavy for us to wear day to day.

[Peridot's only familiar with Diamond salutes as a sign of respect so she's a bit perplexed by the bowing, but she's too distracted to comment on it.]

Sort of. It's the band of rebel gems who turned against the Gem Homeworld and liberated it from an oppressive, destructive regime. We're based on Earth, however- just... a very different one from this.

[And she looks not best pleased about it. She's coping, but it's still frustrating.]

[Ah... that must have been difficult for her, turning against her people, even if it was to do the right thing.]

Speaking as someone from an Earth, I'm grateful that you did. It's very hard to make yourself stand against that kind of force, and that's even when you weren't ever a part of it.

[She puffs out her chest. The ego has been fed. There is no stopping it now.] Of course. But it was my knowledge of the inner workings and inherent flaws in the system that allowed us to exploit Homeworld's weaknesses.

[Which is not necessarily true, but Peridot does have a lot of that to offer. It just hasn't proven relevant yet... Beyond that she proved Yellow Diamond is fallible, which shouldn't even be a thing. The fact that the Diamonds aren't perfect beings helped a lot with the takedown.] I'm sure I'll find an equivalent tactic to save this Earth.

[Fuu smiles at the obvious pride that Peridot puffs herself up with. She's happy that Peridot is looking less gloomy, but it's delightful as well.]

I'm sure you will. If you were able to save a planet from extraterrestrial invaders, then people from this world are more than feasible. Though ripping at the seams of reality is a little different than spaceships and lasers--

--well, assuming it was spaceships and lasers. I might just be thinking of movies.

There were definitely spaceships and lasers. And fusions and- wait.

[She deflates a bit.] Ripping at the seams in reality?

[Ah. Fuu isn't surprised, though, if Peridot is new then it would be difficult to get a handle on exactly what the nature of this Earth's current problems are. It is rather outlandish, after all.]

Oh, yes... it's a very unfortunate situation. You see, there's this group called the OTO that is trying to use the force that brings us here to bring other things as well, like technology. And weapons. And unfortunately, they don't like us imPorts very much.

Well, of course they wouldn't. [Somehow none of this surprises Peridot in the least bit. It's practical. It sounds like something Homeworld would do if they had less pride in what they could do for themselves.] If the majority of what's coming through the warps isn't what you were after and actively opposed to your goals, then you're going to want to retaliate. Honestly, it sounds like they have no faith in their ability to make weapons and technology on their own, and they're taking it out on anyone who inconveniences them.

[That's a specific-seeming assumption--but also, it seems accurate.]

You know, I wouldn't be surprised if that's a large part of their motivation. I'm sure they don't consider that the majority of us would much rather go home than be taken to another planet and given strange powers that we might not even understand.

Somehow, we're going to have to get them to understand our point of view. But I'm not sure how much it would help.

[she'd really like it to help, but realistically, Fuu suspects that a lot of them are too set in their narrow worldview to want to listen.]
