The season of love is upon the world of Mask and Menace. And while a Valentine’s Day adventure awaits in a few days, today is the time to show your affection in a different way: giving of the self. Or, specifically, pieces of yourself. No, no, don’t take that too literally! No blood donations or rendering limbs. This is a charity auction put on by the fine Spider Loving church of Jeopardy. Today, the cathedral of the Church of the Ancient Web Mistress has thrown open its doors to raise funds for natives impacted by disasters in the last year. The main attraction? A chance for natives to buy their very own piece of imPort paraphilia!

The main alter of the Cathedral is more or less hidden behind a giant display area which has been set up. In the spirit of kindness and giving, imPorts have been asked to donate an item of theirs for public auction, with all proceeds going to charity. And not just any item- the Ancient Web Mistress believes in going big. Imports have been asked to donate an item of theirs from home that was ported in with them. A sock, some sunglasses, a button off a jacket, a lock of hair if you’re feeling really generous. Anything you can think of. These are true collectors’ items for the big spenders of the native population, which have traveled from all over for this exciting event (or are at least bidding online. The church is ancient, not made of Luddites).

All donated items will be placed in individual glass display cases behind a velvet rope in the display area. Cocktails and finger food are circled around the area like it’s a proper art gallery opening, and a data pad has been placed in front of each case for participants to place a bid for each item silent auction style. While this whole event has an air of class and refinement, there’s still room for imPorts to put their normal twist on it. Every imPort that donated an item is encouraged to stand near their display case and let everyone know just how valuable this item is. Honesty is not required. Tell the crowd how this button in the only thing that stopped your home world from being destroyed. This jacket was handmade by your mother out of the blanket that you used to smother the evil overlord (never mind the ‘Macey’s’ tag on the inside of it). History increases value and, really now, who here’s going to prove otherwise?

Of course, there are imPort only events elsewhere in the Cathedral. The basement has been set up as the usual swear-in banquet, with small tables to gather around, buffet style food, and a very open bar serving alcohol as well as juice and soda. The feel of the place is a little, ah, culturally different than previous swear-ins. Heavy black lace table cloths cover the dining and banquet table, spider-shaped chandeliers hang from the ceiling, and lush black carpeting is rolled out underfoot.



A few concessions have been made to the spirit of the swear-in, including American flags draped on the walls and a swing-dancing floor set up in the far corner. The normal faint humming heard throughout Jeopardy is drowned out by big band music cheerfully clashing with the somber looking décor, but that’s pretty par for the course for the Church.

There are also several oubliettes side rooms from the main basement room that can be reached by individual stair cases. A few of these are simply adorned, some chairs and couches with soothing music playing where imPorts can get away from the crowds for a moment for a breather or quiet conversation The tables are scattered with pamphlets about joining the church, if you need a little light reading.



One has the near mandatory bingo game going on. Winners will receive stuffed spider toys of various sizes to commemorate the day. Win ten games and get the 6ft tall one- if you can figure out how to get it out the door.



In one room a disciple of the Ancient Webmistress has set up a unique take on a fortune telling booth. She holds out a deck of tarot cards before you and asks you to select one- and then to go out and find another imPort with a matching card. When the two of you come back and present the matching cards to her together you’ll receive your message for the new year- a fortune, a blessing, a curse, or something in between. Whatever it is, it’s sure to be interesting. While one individual can match with multiple people, each person only gets one card, so choose wisely!

[ This is actually the first time Kanan has set foot in Jeopardy. He's been aware of it since its appearance, but has actively avoided it because, quite frankly, it doesn't feel right. There is something deeply wrong with this place, something that tugs at him whenever he reaches out to it, and it's kept him away.

However uneasy he is with Jeopardy, however, Kanan can't resist the opportunity to do things to help the local populace. After all, it's not their fault that this town is Wrong, Somehow. He can make it through a few hours here (probably), if it means raising some money to help people.

So, he spends a lot of time at the silent auction, standing next to a small display case with... well, it's an individually-wrapped, flavorless, cardboard-textured protein bar from his home galaxy. The packaging might be of interest, in that the writing on it is clearly not any alphabet originating from Earth. He's willing to answer questions about it, if people have them, though he's not going to be dishonest about what it is.

At some point, he will be at the banquet, sampling the food but avoiding anything alcoholic, as usual. He might also be spotted wandering around with a card that was handed to him, though he's not really sure why or what it means.

And perhaps, someone might stumble upon him in one of the quiet rooms, his back ramrod straight, a certain amount of tension in how he holds himself, because while the faint humming sound might not be as prominent, he doesn't need to hear it to know there's just something Not Right about this place. ]

[ Yato's also slipped into one of the side rooms to take a break from the music for a few moments, not realizing that this particular one was occupied. He's about to excuse himself when he notices Kanan's stance. ]

[ Ruka hates Jeopardy. The location, the terrain, the build of the city, its power plant, its religious microcosm, its obsession with spiders — it makes her skin crawl. Every part of it. Every sunrise and every sunset here in the desert fills her with dread; it's why she moved here in the first place. So when she hears of this Swear-In, and where it's being hosted, she endures an initial wave of revulsion, a creep of fear and anxiety, and buries all of it. When the day arrives, she's one of the first imPorts to arrive, and — well if she's anxious, she doesn't show it at all. She dresses to aesthetic: her usual combo of red elbow-length gloves and red heart-shaped eye patch already gets one of the church's theme colors, so the look gets completed with a more #gothic "little black dress" — between the sweetheart halter cut, the red ribboning up the back, and the overlayed lace on the front, it gives the illusion of a corset, but without any of the actual restriction or shaping. Sure, it's a little thot topic all together, but that's just how it be sometimes.

Well. Up until the church gives her a free disciple robe as a consolatory gift for her life sucking so much. Thanks, Websters. ]

🕸 Charity

[ There's only one thing Ruka still carries from her original world, and no force in this world would ever convince her to part with it — so when she presents her own charitable offering, it's with small apologies. "Everything I'd had was destroyed when Atropos came. You know how it is."

Instead of some hometown knick-knack, or lying through her teeth about her sentimental attachment to a disposable lighter, or whatever, Ruka banks on her reputation as an artist and as one of the most famous long-term imPorts with a pseudo-triptych of paintings. They'll look familiar to anyone who caught her history-telling network post the previous summer: it's a series on the destruction of the previous world, from the evaporation of its oceans and the reddening of its sun, to the splintering of its moon, to the final shattering of the earth itself — with the snake-body of Atropos herself weaving through all three, culminating in her sun-veined, moon-faced, metal-toothed visage in the last. The paintings themselves are quite large, overwhelming to stand before — they're sold as a set, of course, but each piece has to get its own cordoned-off display area.

It's kind of intense.

Frequently through the evening, you'll find Ruka at the final of these paintings, a glass of wine in one hand and a too-bright smile on her face, answering questions and making small-talk with anyone who shows interest. ]

I suppose you could call it a formative experience.

🕸 Banquet

[ The music is giving her a headache, and the general mood of the room is not helping. She's pretty sure having anything to eat or drink here is a bad idea — aren't there stories about spiders capturing prey by using food lures and decoys? — but she doesn't want to look like she's abstaining. So for Ruka, it means a lot of picking up glasses and "forgetting" them elsewhere, of "clumsily" dropping hors d'oeuvres, and — a favorite — complaining of dietary restrictions and a poor heart condition whenever anything is offered directly. Sure, she'd much rather be drunk for this, but like hell she's drinking spider cultist wine. You might even catch her pulling a water bottle out of her purse and drinking from that..... right next to the beverage station...

She's trying, okay. ]

🕸 """ Side """ Rooms / Bingo

[ On the one hand, the whole "go down a staircase to a secret small room to chill out" is very suspect. On the other hand, they are quieter, and crowds like this aren't easy for Ruka even when she isn't stressed the fuck out. So a few times during the evening, you can catch Ruka slipping down into one of those oubliettes — maybe you wind up intruding on one of hers accidentally, or maybe you've followed her for a private conversation, or maybe she intruded in on yours, sup. In quieter ones, she'll give a peruse through the offered pamphlets — maybe she'll have a chance to talk to someone who's part of the organization, see what joining the church really entails, but sometimes there's bingo.

And, despite the fact bingo should be a solely luck-based game that a player's skill has no bearing on, she still... tends to win... a lot... Ruka you hate spiders what are you going to do with seven plushes. ]

🕸 Tarot

I was kind of expecting the cards to be different.

[ Oh hey, did you get a fortune card? Well, just outside that little oubliette is Ruka, a tarot card pinched between her gloved fingers. She pivots it a little where she holds it, but the angle isn't quite right for anyone else to see its face; her own is pinched with debate. She glances out of the corner of her eye at her new company. ]

Design-wise, I mean. They're not as... mmm, gamey as I thought they'd be.

[Wow, uh. Those sure are a thing.

Alfie isn't what one would call an art lover. His eyes gloss over paintings, as a general rule, but these are a little hard to ignore.]

Is this still life?

[He can't help but ask curiously. He's sort of using the term wrong, but hopefully the meaning is clear: did she witness this, rather than invent it?]

[Jeopardy is a deeply unsettling city that Kang never wants to come back to again. Its sudden appearance and acceptance as always being there is creepy enough, but then it also has spider-worshipping and the humming that's jarring for a human, but even more for him with his heightened senses. Thankfully, the music helps with the latter, but he swears he can still feel it.

At the silent auction, he presents his items. The belt is made by hand, and branded with a dagger and a stylized R - the mark of the leathersmith. Kang explains that he knows the leathersmith personally, having been his superior officer for decades while in the military. The coins are real metal, plain, and his best guess is that much on Krynn is equal to about $150 (not a bad amount of pocket change).

This time around, he's too uneasy about the situation to drink alcohol at the banquet, though he does eat some of the food and chat with anyone he recognizes or approaches him.

Later on, he does escape to one of the side rooms to get away from the music for a while, and plays a few rounds of bingo, winning a spider plush. He'll probably end up giving it to someone else if they want it.]

To be honest, Kasia had little interest in attending this Swear-in, but it was being held in what is now her home city so she figured she might as well make an attempt. She hated crowds, though. So the entire time Kasia did her best to stick the outskirts of the event.

She took a little peek at the silent auction, though she had nothing to offer herself. No, she wasn't going to cut off a lock of her hair. That seemed ridiculous, and yet people were clearly into it.

She did have to admit the decor of the basement was almost nice. The whole spider thing was still a little weird and made her think of the Fallen, but something about it still felt comforting. In a weird way.

The music she could do without, however. It was too loud and it's only when she moves into one of the quieter siderooms that she realizes the constant hum had been drowned out. Somehow she'd grown used it since she'd been living in Jeopardy but now it made her skin crawl.

"We're going to have to find out what's making that noise." Apparently talking to herself.

In the short time, Kasia had been working at the fortune teller's shop she'd begun to learn the meaning behind the tarot cards. She still thought to be a load of bull, but when she an upright ten of swords was pulled for her she couldn't help but think too much on it.

"Why this card?" What was it meant to mean her future here? Her future back home? She didn't like it.

[Kirk isn't sure what the hell to make of Jeopardy during his first visit, but one thing he's sure of is that he's never been more grateful for a creepy basement affair. He could do without the "creepy" aspects (seriously, what is up with all these spiders?), but being this far underground means he doesn't have to wear his glasses for the event. His heavy sunglasses instead now sit tucked away in the breast pocket of the black button-down he wore this evening, and unnatural red eyes peer around at all the various attractions.]

Auction
[This was... bizarre. Why are so many imPorts giving up lockets of their hair? He'd been asked to donate, of course, but he simply declined. For the briefest of seconds he considered parting with the flash drive designed to look like him, but then he remembered that had been a gift from Hernan, so that was out of the question too.

He stops to stare at one of the display cases and arches an eyebrow, uttering one of two things:]

[When Kirk finds his way over the banquet, rather than head for one of the tables, he instead opts to prop up one of the nearby walls, taking the opportunity to people watch.

And more importantly, avoid the smells of food he really can't eat right now.

He may look determined to keep his distance from the other imPorts, but it's really just his resting vampire face.]

Bingo
[Kirk can't actually remember ever playing bingo before. He'd refused at first, but eventually curiosity got the better of him and it isn't long before he finds himself calling out "bingo", much to his own surprise.

As one of the disciples hands him a weirdly cute spider toy, he can't help but smile at it for reasons he can't explain.]

Hallway
[After a while, Kirk looks for a quiet spot to sit and recharge a bit, heading down one of the apparent many staircases (who designed this building?) to where he hopes he can find solitude. It isn't until he slumps into the nearest chair and pulls one of the nearby brochures closer out of curiosity, does he notice he's not alone.]

Sorry, I didn't realize this room was occupied.

[Kirk wasn't a big believer in things like fortune telling, but out of respect for the event chooses a card when asked.

"The Hermit." Heh. Sounds like his life.

Slipping the card into his breast pocket, he asks the nearest imPort:]

[Alfie repeats, looking wide-eyed from Kirk to the little baggie of beard clippings, and then back again.]

You're asking why? These, mate, are hairs off the beard of a man who's been here longer than many and settled in less than most; a man who's traveled through time to make a reluctant home for himself in this fine world; a man who's kept a low profile and media presence; a man who's been said to be shrouded in mystery. And now, for the very first time, he is making available for sale a very personal sort of item, a bit off of his own body that only one person in all the world will have an opportunity to own.

[There's a pause of a few seconds before he continues, in a calmer, much less dramatic tone of voice.]

Right, then; you think that'll sell it well enough? I just wanna see how much they'll pay for it, mate.

[She's not gonna admit it openly, but Tulip is a bit of a softy at heart. Cultists she's not for- no matter the jerk god- but word on the street was they were on the up and up. For this place, at least. After asking it turned out some of the money was going to foster care kids, so as a 'Successful Product' of the system, what the hell. She gave them the sunglasses that came with her from home.

Which she spends a good hour standing next to and very seriously lying about.]

I killed ten men with those. Up the bid.

[The 'or else' is silent. But there.]


Siderooms

[BINGO- Swing dancing isn't her scene, chatting over pigs in a blanket with strangers at church even less. She got enough of that in Texas, thanks. So she starts poking around the side rooms and ends up...here. Magical other world people putting chips on a card like it's after church on Sunday, which-

Huh. It was, wasn't it?

So she can't help but stand in the back and watch for a bit. Maybe trying to snag herself a stuffed spider from anyone with too many while she's at it.]


[FORTUNE CARD - an upside-down ace of Cups. She don't know what it means, but somehow it feel insulting. Just one cup? She pulls out her phone to internet that shit and lets out a small, indignant cry as she reads the first result-]

[Chloe's going for amazement, wanting to back her up on getting the bid higher, but she's more amused and a little of that is definitely leaking through.]

Altair had decided to attend the swear-in out of curiosity, what exactly were they swearing to and why?, but found himself distracted by the city itself. He'd overheard from others that the city had simply appeared one day which shouldn't be possible, and between the humming and the apparitions he wasn't able to let his guard down. It was too similar to how Masyaf felt under the Apple's influence.

That thought had Altair reaching one hand into a pouch on his belt; a touch confirmed the Apple was still there and cool to the touch, and a quick glance into the pouch shows it's still inert. It hadn't so much as flickered since he'd found himself in this world, but he didn't fully trust this wasn't a trick.

Inside the Cathedral was just as strange. The 'music' was louder than anything he'd heard before -the only upside was that it drowned out the humming- and the spider theme was disconcerting, but his curiosity wasn't sated. So he stayed.

At the buffet he picked through what was on offer, attempting to find something he recognized and could eat.

After a while he wandered into the side rooms, observing the Bingo game and fortune tellers without actually joining in.

Finally he found a quiet side room that had no one in it and sat down. A moment of quiet was needed.

If Anders could, he'd fill a tote bag full of food and give it to the clinic, or any number of people who would need it. He was getting better about regularly eating, since he didn't have to worry about money and he wasn't overworked by being the only free healer in the city.

Anders looked over at the man eyeing the buffet beside him, "Try the fruit salad. It's delicious."

Entrance
Anders dropped his items off for the auction before going off to explore the church. So far, the spider motif wasn't as creepy as it should have been, but maybe that's because Anders has seen scarier spiders and this place doesn't have the air of oppression like the Chantry.

"I wonder if this is what a Tevinter Chantry is like."

Buffet
These swear ins are always interesting to attend. Anders makes his way to the buffet, piling his plate with various foods. He looks up at the chandelier as he nibbles on a bit of cheese and cracker. "I can't tell if that's gaudy or interesting."

Side Room
Anders somehow managed to escape the bingo room, having come away with a bag of plastic spiders. Maybe he can give them away to some of the kids at the clinic. For now, he just needs a breather, so he finds the nearest seat and relaxes.

A Dunmer's gotta eat, so Finn heads down to the basement where the buffet's been set up right after dropping off his drawing and the bit of hair. Had the flowers he had in his pocket not wilted months ago, he would have donated them too.

Finn looks around at the decor as he gets some food. "Love what they've done with the place."

Somehow, he got roped into a bingo game. Thankfully, it's not a very complicated game and he manages to win himself a small stuffed spider toy. "I don't get why people are afraid of these things. Especially when this world doesn't have the giant monster spiders mine does."

[ Jeopardy has a certain pull that will always successfully draw Sabrina in, not that it's a difficult feat when it comes to a nosy teenager with a penchant for running head first into precarious situations. Having visited the eerie city a few times, each visit presents a new, frustrating mystery she's determined to solve, her main concern at the time being the spirits who cannot move on the city.

When she hears the Swear-In is being hosted in Jeopardy, she doesn't hesitate to show up, one of the first to arrive when the doors open to guests, her own general aesthetic matching with the church's themes that she may as well be part of the city itself. A pop of red lipstick completes her look, not much for accessories.

However, what she isn't prepared for is the request to donate something of hers for the auction. Sabrina has exactly one piece of jewelry from home she refuses to part with, the necklace she fingers nervously around her neck despite the fact no one has demanded it. The hesitation is clear as day, but she finally decides on something that doesn't make her as uneasy: the black headband she's always seen wearing. It still feels odd, her signature accessory she doesn't go anywhere without, but she hands it over without much of a fuss. ]

I didn't port in with much to begin with. The headband is really the only thing besides my cat.

[ She says while her index pokes at her necklace again. ]

⛧ "SIDE ROOMS"

[ A staircase descending down a dark path?

Naturally, that's where Sabrina ends up eventually. To her utmost surprise there isn't something horrible awaiting her at the bottom of the staircase ready to kill her, but designated game areas that she peers in on to quell her curiosity. What really seizes her attention is the opportunity to draw a card from a tarot deck . There doesn't appear to be any harm in doing so, but the card she draws puzzles her when she turns it over to reveal a reversed Ten of Wands.

She stands to the side staring over it, muttering to herself: ]

"A cross that’s too heavy to bear."

[Molly, on the other hand, came to the church wearing a stained-glass catsuit, because he believes in going hard or going home and we all know which side he's going to fall into. It looked terrible on the mannequin and it looks even weirder on someone obviously not human and wearing it under a blazer with two shades of neon blue and two of hot rod red.

He escapes to one of the side rooms because he's just a bit too curious for his own good, and spots a familiar face over near a fortune-teller. His heels click on the floor as he walks on over, peering over Sabrina's shoulder at her card.]

Silent Auction
[She only arrived days ago. The fact they are asking her for some of the only items she has for an auction, as if people want to purchase a piece of her in such a way is...she does not know how it makes her feel, but it is not a feeling that Dira finds enjoyable. But they explain the money will go to help those in need. Helping people is good and maybe makes her feel good, she is still learning about the sensation of it.

So she digs into her pockets to see what is inside. She finds dust, lint, and a chewy sweet from Garuda Xetka.

She really likes the candy. It burns her mouth but is very sweet. So she stands there staring at the piece of candy, debating seriously with herself. Will someone else please step in and help solver her conundrum?]

Banquet
[There is food and that is all that matters. She gathers a plate full. So full she has to reach out and catch a fried cheese ball that rolled off her plate with her free hand. She may have been eating when it happened, but she wasn't to waste any of these new foods. Each one needed to be tested.

She will wander the room eating as she goes, food disappearing into her mouth dutifully as she takes time to chew each bite. It never speeds up, it never slows.

And when she's done with one plate, she'll go back for a second. Even if that means moving other people out of the way to get to foods she has yet to try.]

Silent Rooms
[You may be enjoying a peaceful moment to yourself only to notice there is someone else staring at you from across the small room. How did she get there? Who knows. Why is she there? To observe you. She won't speak unless spoken to, but Dira is trying to learn what she can by seeing other imPorts in quiet moments.

You may also see a frail looking girl in the bingo room, hovering over a table covered in game card sheets. She has an ink dobber in her hand, eyes going over the sheets to make sure every number that is called is marked. She already has four spider dolls sitting carefully in the second chair at her table. If you try to take the chair, she will stop you and if you stand over her shoulder, you may get ink on your face.]

Grog was wandering around, dressed in battle regalia, and smirking, as he watches the whole thing, drinking heavily from his ale cask. He had managed to find a place that made slightly less than terrible ale, and he was drinking from the cask directly as he wandered. He had an inkling that Vex and Percy would be disappointed in him somehow, but he was enjoying attention, food, and drink, and didn't care at the moment.

He was resplendent with his harness shone, his clothing tailored and pressed, and his skin oiled by some very willing friends.

Today was a good day to be Grog!

Games, side rooms, and Fun

Grog wandered through the food area, eating, and dancing with those who wanted him to, though he knew nothing about dancing, but he liked fun. Grog had gotten the ace of cups and was wandering to see if anyone else had it, and if so, what the deal was. He had no idea what one was supposed to do with these cards, and they didn't seem to do anything magical, unlike the last deck of cards he had had.

Really, it's easy for anyone to get a glimpse over her shoulder at her card - a tiny girl in armor but no visible weapon, wandering around holding the card. She's stopping to ask a few people she sees holding cards, but no luck. It isn't until Hikaru sees the massive Goliath with a card that she hesitates. She's been deceived by appearances before. Maybe not such a scary guy?

That said, he couldn't really recall why he had suspicions in the first place. Growing up in the Order must have made him really paranoid. So far, he hadn't seen any real harm on Earth. Except with Bodhi but... even that could have been an accident, right?

Finn, while confused, was very curious about everything going on at this Swear-In. Jeopardy was an interesting place, he'd decided, so he planned to get a little everywhere and into a little bit of everything. The banquet looked lovely, the side rooms were intriguing, and bingo was fun! Catch him around all over the place while the cards still hold their effects over him.

[Max may not have much money right now, with all costs of moving and upgrades to his new room to make sure it's safe for himself and others living int he house, but how could he not look around a Charity Auction? Creepy spider-lovers they may be in Jeopardy, but they at least seem to really care about doing right by those in need. He can respect that.

So he's keeping an eye out for anything he might be willing to put down some money for. It might not even be something he wants or would use, but he wants to do his part. Some of the things he sees though...]

[Max is just looking for a room to expel a little extra energy that's building up from being in town. It's hard hanging out so close to a power plant, even if it's some distance away. So he looks for a room that seems pretty empty before he starts making a ball of energy and then altering it. It's a control exercise that he learned years ago. Making a ball of energy and then manipulating it while adding more and more energy to it. Changing the colors, the density, the speed of the energy.

[ It's odd, coming without an entourage, but the Senator does so, because... well, it seems inappropriate, in a city he hasn't visited much. Mitchell showed up at the swearing-in with a hesitant look on his face, and a look of distaste that never quite left -- not deeply unpleasant -- but the look of a faint stench... Or the way he kept rubbing at his jaw, maybe something in the sound?

He makes his way through, taking time to stop and introduce himself to anyone who looks even remotely new. 'Mitchell Hundred -- Senator, let me know if you need anything, okay?', but he doesn't reach out. Maybe it's the scenery, maybe it's the hum that jeopardy has. The way it teases at his senses along with the low-level song of every other electronic in a mile's radius. Like a distant harmony being drowned out by a blasting, discordant chord.

It's not long before he made his way to the rooms. Dancing certainly wasn't his style -- he wouldn't be caught near the dance floor, but being alone is easy, and he's too easy to recognize, even with his head between his fingers, like a migraine had settled in.

Really though, he just wanted to drink his drink in peace. ]

At any rate, his story of him and Colonel is certainly growing in the telling.]

[ This isn't the first time Rogue has had to smooze with the rich and powerful, but it's been a hell of a long time and she sure hasn't missed it. It's only because it's for charity that she decided to participate in the auction at all, and it hasn't been easy to have folks gawking at her from the sidelines. They're wondering if it's worth it, if their mountains of money would be better spent on the coins from Knock Out or the swim trunks from Jacob, but being stared at holds a few too many bad memories for her.

So, she has a drink. And then another, the long stemmed glass held between gloved fingers that matched the dark green evening dress she'd chosen for the evening. She paces herself, at least, realizing full well that her tolerance isn't at all what it used to be, but after a while she gets quite open and chatty about the experience that caused the white stripe in her hair, selling the story with an almost theatrical flair to her smooth southern drawl in order to convince more people to bid on the lock of brown and white hair. ]

Oh, the machine did kill me. It was only because of my power to borrow others' abiltiies that I'm standing here before you today.

[ She should have stopped at glass number five. No, make that three. Pressing a hand to her head, she offers another quick congratulation to the winner of her item in the auction before bidding them farewell and making a somewhat unsteady beeline for the exit.

It doesn't even register what she's doing until she's already done it, walking right up to Knock Out and opening the door to let herself inside. She takes one slightly fuzzy look at the front seats, then the back, and makes a somewhat ridiculous choice to climb into the back without moving the seat forward.

[ Knock Out's had a relatively quiet night during this Swear In since the entirety of the involvements have been inside. He's made small conversation with those who've come outside for air, or to escape the loudness of the music, or who want to know what the deal is with the shanix that he put up for charity. But largely he's been left alone and that's suited him all right, giving him time to peruse the network through his internal comms.

He is not expecting Rogue to come stumbling toward him, open his door, and than attempt a less than graceful crawl into his backseat. There's no way the visage of the sports car can adequately convey just how ??? he is at this moment. ]

[ Not knowing much about fortune telling via cards, Akobi has no opinion on the card he draws. And then he finds... he has no opinion on very much else either. The entire spectacle of the swear-in fails to move him, and he's just standing in a corner with a glass of some drink-- which may be alcoholic or may not, he doesn't really care-- in one hand, the other hand stuffed resolutely in his pocket. ]

Mm. Archie. [ He nods solemnly, sipping his drink. ] Entirely dull, if I'm honest with you. I'm not sure I see the point in it.

Bean has no plans on registering. The United States government already knows more about him than he's comfortable with them knowing; why should he put his name on a list for them too? He's only checking out this Swearing In event because it's in his home city of Jeopardy. Maybe there'll be something of interest there.

For the most part, Bean finds Jeopardy unsettling. But here, at the Church of the Ancient Web Mistress, he feels strangely comfortable in the setting in a way he hasn't since Battle School. Perhaps... even more so than Battle School. He feels at peace, like this is a place he belongs. He has no interest in religion past a scholastic curiosity, but this cathedral feels like... home.

Feeling more comfortable, Bean begins to socialize, forgoing the paranoid suspicion of the people around him that he usually holds around himself like armor. He spies a man sitting near the bingo game who looks like the sort of career military men who were teachers at Battle School. That's as good a person as any to strike up a conversation with, thinks Bean.

"Hello," he begins, climbing up onto a chair next to the man. "Are you having fun tonight?"

Is Canderous having fun?

Possibly. He hasn't really decided yet. His surroundings are... comfortable, in a way that he can't put his finger on. He hasn't felt this way in years, and paranoid as he is, he can't help but think that it's some kind of force acting on his mind. But he lets the concern slip from his mind, buried under a sense of deep-seated belonging, and instead, finds himself watching people for the most part.

He glances down at the skinny little youth saying hello, finding himself both charmed and bemused by the fearlessness on this one.

"For some reason, I am," he answers, frankly. "I don't know what I was expecting of this event, but it wasn't this."
