WHO: Alfie Solomons, Kanan Jarrus
WHERE: Maurtia Falls
WHEN: Late January
WHAT: A body dump gone awry
WARNINGS: murder, dead people, you know the drill
[Gangstering, at least the kind of gangstering that Alfie does, doesn't actually involve as much murder as one might think. Often, his deals go smoothly, and even when they don't, trickery, well-timed threats, or other sorts of punishment can be smarter and more effective than jumping straight to killing the people that he clashes with. But Alfie is a firm believer that someone in his line of business must always be prepared to kill, even if it won't actually end up happening nine times out of ten. And that, to make a long story short, is why he's down by the Maurtia Falls canal at half past one in the morning, truck quietly idling nearby as he dumps the bodies of Eddie Brink and Lionel Grossman into the water.
It's an atypical situation, really. But when a rival criminal had heard through the grapevine that Alfie had just received a rather large delivery payment from a client, and had responded by sending a couple henchman to break into his apartment and liberate that payment... well. That's not the sort of situation that one responds to with trickery or threats. That's the sort of situation where one makes an example of the henchman, thereby giving their boss a powerful sign that some people are not to be fucked with.
At home, Alfie is big and powerful enough that he has people who do his body dumps (and, often, his killings) for him. That's not the case here. He isn't nearly as entrenched in Maurtia Falls as he'd been in London, partially by design and partially due to circumstance (he's been here for two and a half years, sure, but he's still an imPort) - and even beyond that, he doesn't really have anyone that he trusts enough to do this kind of thing for him; not unless they're tangled up in it too somehow. He has associates that are loyal to him, but he's not so naive to think that they don't all have other associates that they're more loyal to. So here he is, alone at night, sliding two tarp-covered corpses into the water. They were clean kills, with minimal clean-up involved. It could have been worse.
With any luck, no one will spot him heading back to the truck parked suspiciously close to the canalside.]

But he keeps his finger on the pulse of organized crime in Maurtia Falls - if only because so many criminal gangs try to prey on and exploit the kids he is trying so hard to help. And if he's party to an injustice, he believes he has an obligation to try and stop it. That's simply the Jedi way.
The Jedi way also sometimes involves visions.
Not a very accurate term for what he experiences these days, since being blinded, as Kanan doesn't actually see things, as such. But he feels them. Senses them. Knows, sometimes, that something is going to happen, and he lets the Force guide him.
Which brings him to a canal, very late at night, crouching behind that idling truck. ]
What were their names?

Alfie stops dead in his tracks. The fact that he doesn't know this guy from Adam is a major complication, because it means he can't tailor his response to what he thinks will work best on him. Still... maybe this doesn't have to be a total disaster. Maybe he can still save this.]
Sir, sir, thank goodness you're here. Thank goodness.
[He runs a hand down his face, immediately morphing into the picture of a frazzled, harried man.]
There's two bodies-- well, you've seen them, surely. Two fucking dead bodies, right in the canal! Can you believe it? And here I am, just out for a nighttime walk-- fucking hell.
[He'd be surprised if Kanan believes this - if he buys the performance. But sometimes, the most important thing is having plausible deniability.]

Lionel.
[ He might be pulling that name out of nowhere, but it's not from nowhere. ]
What have you done to him? Was it at least self-defense?

[He keeps the surprise off his face, but he was not expecting this guy to know one of the men's names. Does he know him? Maybe they're even friends; associates? Hell, maybe this guy is involved in organized crime, too. Alfie knows most of the players in Maurtia Falls by this point, but it's a big, busy town.]

[ Great. His shoulders slump a bit. ]
His sister is looking for him. You probably didn't even know he has a sister.

Look here, mate, if you're so sure it was me what dumped these two pour souls into the water, you must have some reason for it. You've got a camera on you. Is that it? Photographic evidence?

[ His voice is even, calm. He hasn't budged an inch from where he's standing, and doesn't seem interested in a fight. ]

[He raises his eyebrows.]
Have I got it right? And really, if you ask me, these men--
[He gestures over his shoulder.]
-- these men, in a situation like this, they don't look like innocent men to me. Yeah. they look like criminals themselves. Is it any fucking surprise that this is the end that a criminal might come to?

[ This guy must really get a kick out of giving people the verbal run-around. Honestly Kanan is tempted to leave just because he's so annoying, apart from anything else. ]
I asked a simple question, one that should have a simple answer. What happened.

I did give you a simple answer. I gave you a simple answer right away, in fact. Yeah, I did. But you - you didn't accept it, and that's not my problem. If you wanna dig deeper than that, mate, that's how you get to the answers that aren't so simple.

[ This guy is officially on Kanan's shit list, so... enjoy that? He turns to go, seemingly not concerned about the possibility of attack or anything like that. ]
