you are as sweet as candy
WHO: Yako Katsuragi and YOU
WHERE: One of the rooms used for culinary classes at the University; feel free to assume Yako let your character know where it was. Walk-ins welcome.
WHEN: Feb 13, Midday-Early Afternoon
WHAT: Teaching people to make chocolate, among other things.
WARNINGS: None for the foreseeable future?
As one might expect of a classroom, even one for cooking, it's all fairly blandly decorated. The easy-clean workstations come with mixing bowls and spatulas, and while each station has its own stovetop, there's only one oven with multiple tiers and one large refrigerator.
With limited equipment, it's more practical to partner up and share. All that's missing are the ingredients, but Yako's really only brought enough for what she plans to make for other people and to demonstrate different variations. If people want to make more to bring home, they'll have to bring their own; otherwise, she's assuming they'll try it out at home themselves.
Anyone who wanted to take the opportunity to demonstrate how to make something other than truffles is welcome to step up as well, or claim one of the workstations to give their demonstrations. Participation isn't required -- if you're just here to gawk, or learn, you're welcome to.
At the end of the afternoon, Yako shows off some simple but attractive ways to present candies. If they want to try it at home, people can get index cards with the recipes printed on them -- and the things made during the demonstration are all up for taking home.

He even did the kindness of having a large bag of ingredients. It was best not to ask how he'd procured them, of course.
He only leveled a nod at the hostess, a hint of a smile on his face. ]
This is quaint, isn't it?

She's not going to turn down someone who brings his own ingredients, anyway, and her expression lights up faintly as she greets him with a small wave. ]
I'm glad you could make it. [ She looks around at the kitchen, trying to imagine what it must seem like to his eyes. He did say he had experience cooking, but... ] It's probably not as well-equipped as you're used to.
no subject
Well, it's far different, yes, but suitable. What I'm used to, and what I must make do with, are two very different things.
[ He set a bag on a counter, starting to pull ingredients out of the bag. ]
I think we're all trying to make do with a little less, aren't we?
no subject
[ She leans against the counter and tries not to look too obviously like she's curious about what he's brought -- or tempted to nibble at it. ]
Does that bother you?
no subject
[He said it bluntly, and straightened the chocolates and creams onto the counter, in varying flavors and levels of how rich they were. ]
I'm a man who hasn't gone without in a long time. I'm too old and too settled for this nonsense.
no subject
But you did register, didn't you?
no subject
[ He said it simply, but lifted a shoulder. ]
I enjoy having my comforts, after all.

She did her best to look decent and like she hasn't been doing what she's been doing most of the day. She doesn't bring anything with her since she doesn't really plan on making anything while there or even at home. She hadn't been kidding when she said she didn't much care for the holiday, perhaps it was just her being bitter but she has every right to be.]
Hey. Hope I'm not too late.
no subject
Not too late at all. [ She says it with all apparent sincerity, too, though she glances to the side, assessing how many ingredients they've still got left... ] ...Although we don't have much left over to make things with, if you wanted to try it yourself.

Just figured I'd drop in and see about picking up stuff. Maybe chat a bit since we share a friend.

None of these have nuts. [ ... Just in case it turns out Gilbert isn't fond of chocolate, or would rather give the box to Kenzi. She suspects he'd be that nice. ] I don't think I ever got the story of how you and Mister Gilbert became friends, but I think he mentioned that he's known you for a long time.

It was one of those weird things that happened back in the City. A bunch of us had our powers change on us and I ended up with Gil's. I was going to pawn off the item that, like, controls his power or whatever and he stopped me. [They certainly didn't get along like they do now days back then.]
no subject
I'll assume he didn't take it well.

[Kenzi pops a chocolate in her mouth and lets out a pleased hum.] Oh, this is just what I needed. Thanks.
