semi-open: resistance and friends christmas party

It's Christmas Eve, and there is a party going down.

Friends of Poe, Beth or Finn will have received the following note, either in person or over the network:

Friends of the Resistance:
You are invited for an evening's worth of Christmas and Life Day festivities. Feel free to bring food, but we promise that there will be plenty.

The place and time, Nonah 005, Christmas Eve, 6 pm are also included. Friends of Finn's have an instruction on their card not to tell him - the party is a surprise. 
There is also a lot of mistletoe- each one coming with a sign about the tradition, with a note at the bottom in dark letters to be respectful.
There is a huge tree with presents - some just for Poe and Finn and Beth the next day but there seem to be at least one small one for everyone at the party.

Poe and Beth take turns answering the door, and while guests may had to slip past the paparazzi on the street, any that have snuck closer to the house have been firmly escorted out. The music is a strange mix of Christmas carols and electro swing, at least until someone wants to start messing with the playlist. At some point in the night, a karaoke machine is brought out, though some singers might prefer just the piano to accompany them. There's also a whole selection of board games available, though they are a slightly eclectic mix.

The party keeps going for a while - but around 3 am Poe will start gathering up any stragglers and either giving them a flight home, or plant them in one of the spare bedrooms to sleep it off.

[Tina's being a bit of a wallflower at the party; it's only after she gets there that she realizes she doesn't know a whole lot of the guests, but Poe was nice enough to invite her, and her housemates don't celebrate Christmas anyway, and so she stays. She's dressed in a green sweater with a picture of a reindeer on it, along with a necklace that looks like a string of Christmas lights.

She tries to avoid the mistletoe, in part because of her guilt over her fractured perception of Jimmy Jr., in part due to her current... date? flirt? boyfriend? she's not sure what to call him yet, and in part because she's pretty sure she's the youngest one there by far.

Later on in the party, she feels bold enough to try karaoke, even though her singing voice isn't all that great.

Or, she can be found playing board games, even though she's not great at that, either.

She's also brought a tray of Christmas cookies of various shapes, sizes and flavors. Due to her powers, they will all taste delicious.]

[ Kanan is thoroughly enjoying these cookies, he's probably had like... five by now. He's at least got the aesthetic down, and hey, his mask is green, so that works, right? Right. ]

Oh, that was me! [Tina waves a hand before stopping, realizing he might be wearing that mask for a reason.] Uhm, thank you. My powers do make me a good cook.

That was you. [ A smile touches his face and he holds out his hand to shake. ] Powers or not, they're delicious. What's your name?

[Tina takes the offered handshake.]

I'm Tina! I figured everyone would like cookies, plus it IS a Christmas party.

[ By the time this party is over and done with, someone will have to roll her out with how much eggnog and treats Leia is filling up on. They're delicious, some of the best she's had the chance to taste. They're better than the stuff she's had in the cafes she would sit in with Poe.

Taking up one of the gingerbread men, her second from this tray, she looks it over. ]

I feel almost bad eating it.

Hmmm, I like to think of it as them fulfilling their purpose in life. They're made to be delicious.

That's a terrible way of looking at the circle of life.

[ But Leia goes ahead anyway and bites the left arm off. ]

Well... then you could also look at it this way- what else is a cookie going to do? [She's still smiling as she says this.] When people enjoy them, they don't go to waste.

Hey, Tina, thanks for coming. [Poe is smiling broadly at her when he leans down to take one of the cookies, munching on it happily.]

Force, these are good.

I have something for you, by the way.

Thanks for inviting me. [Tina smiles shyly in return.] That's my powers at work; I'm quite popular among people who like to eat. ... which is... everyone.

There's a few people in this room that don't eat. [He sounded amused.] Unless they're in human form. Actually -- [He takes another cookie. Sorry, Tina, he is shameless, and is going to munch on it while he gestures for her to follow him to the christmas tree.]

Yeah. That's the tradition, right? Everyone gets presents?

[continuousgroaning]

Well, that's true. Not everyone is a human. I ran into Kay when he was trapped in a human body not too long ago, come to think of it.

[She perks up as she follows him, but then mumbles, embarrassed-]

Yeah, but... I didn't get you anything in return. Uhm, except bringing cookies...

[Christmas cookies? Don't mind if Bela does. She's munching on a star-shaped cookie when she spots Tina, making a beeline for her.]

Hello, Tina. Something tells me that you had something to do with these cookies. [A grin.] They're amazing by the way.

[continuousgroaning]

Hi, Bela! [Tina nods, going a little red at the compliment.] I figured it was something everyone would like.

It was the right call. You should be very proud of yourself.

Have you been having a good evening so far?

Thank you. [This is said with a bit of a blush.] I am. I don't know too many people here, but that's not always a bad thing, right? And tonight is Christmas... so I can't help but feel good about that.

[ Bodhi has a plate. With at least ten cookies piled on it. He looks a little sadly at the reindeer shaped one. ] They're almost too nice looking to eat.

[ It still gets it's head bitten off. Sorry cookie. He'll walk up to whoever happens to be near - which is Tina herself. Sweets are a good conversation opener. ]

Have you tried these? They're excellent.

I made them, so thanks for the compliment. And honestly, I like to think they're filling their purpose by being eaten. That's what good food is there for, right?

True. Food only does so well sitting there, looking nice and going to waste. Especially cookies as good as these. [ he finishes off the little reindeer. ]

Do you cook other things or is it more just baking?

[continuousgroaning]

I do a little bit of everything! My powers make me a really good cook- anything I make turns out well if I follow the instructions.

[ There's a puppy that's somehow managed to clamber its way up onto one of the chairs, puppy paws on the table, trying with all her might to snap at one of the cookies with her clumsy paws slapping and clawing at the tablecloth. And then there's a skinny, scrawny guy in jeans and a leather jacket, and a buzzcut so short he's almost bald, sweeping in past a throng of people to make a lunge for her. ]

Stop that, you little shit. [ Said in an exasperated voice that might also be kind of affectionate. In fact, it's definitely affectionate, because the moment he's scooped the puppy up with a scolding look, that scolding look of his melts into a smiling protesting scrunch of his face as the puppy wiggles in his arms and starts trying to attack his face with an onslaught of slobbery licks. ]

[Tina is just. chinhandsing as she watches the puppy. She knows she should probably try to stop it, but she didn't put anything in her cookies that's harmful to dogs (as far as she knows, anyway), and hey, why shouldn't the puppy have one?]

Awww, it's OK. I don't think anything I put in them will make your dog sick. And dogs should celebrate Christmas too.

[ He's trying to peer around all these puppy kisses at the kid, managing through his protesting grimaces at that sloppy tongue lapping at his chin to give the kid a quick, warm grin. ]

Totally. Puppys've still gotta be taught how to behave on Christmas, though, right? Let 'em steal food off a table once, they think they can do it all the time.
