[Where one month ago D33 would have been lucky to get eight hours of sleep a week, let alone in one night, these past couple of weeks he's actually been feeling quite well-rested. He's also usually in Nonah sharing a bed with Kaneki Ken. For whatever reason (I'm lazy and haven't come up with one), that hasn't been the case these last few days, and insomnia has begun to plague D33 again. As of right now, he's reached the stage where his paranoia and irritation has evened out into a mild, dream-like state where he might do something like put toothpaste on his finger instead of his toothbrush or pour water onto his shoes just to see what it would feel like, but he isn't quite stacking furniture in front of his door or talking to shadow people yet.

[He's also feeling a bit more social than normal, apparently, and he knows that Archie will be awake. So, he's standing outside on the man's stoop, knocking lightly on his door with a half-eaten box of Twinkies tucked under his arm.]

Oh, ya didn't meet him? Couple months ago some guy was sellin' knives out a briefcase door to door. He was talkin' about 'em on the network, too.

[archie shrugs.]

I got some off him, actually. Disinfected and cleaned the shit outta them, they're pretty good.

[FOR KITCHEN STUFF NOT MURDERING.]

[Oh, no. No, he knows Mickey. And dude definitely sells shit for murdering as well. D33 is one of his best customers.]

Mickey Milkovich. He only lives a door away. [D33 gives Archie a strange look.] Does he sell kitchen knives as well?

He has a rather impressive selection of those used for combat-- Well, relatively speaking, anyway.

[Stop him there, Archie, or you're about to get a lecture on knives.]

Oh, you know him? I didn't realise he lived so close.

[archie also won't mention he got a combat knife from him. that's not something anyone needs to know.]

[he might be purposefully inviting a lecture, seeing as it makes d33 happy.]

They seem to be of a rather widely manufactured nature - brand name and whatnot. Of course, that doesn't negate their quality entirely, but custom-made blades tend to endure longer and, naturally, serve their intended purposes with more efficiency.

[Also, you can get cool designs on your handles and shit.

[It's easy to see that D33 is excited - well, more enthused than normal, anyway - talking about this. Back home, R01 had allowed him a personal collection of blades - really, they were something of a hobby to him. Though, they did get their fair share of use.

[He had brought one with him when he'd escaped - freshly sharpened and meticulously cared for despite its age. It's one of the only longstanding personal artifacts that D33 has ever had, and he'd managed to take it through the Porter with him as well. It's the same blade that he keeps on him at all times and always has - he trusts it more than he'd ever think to trust another person.]

I've yet to find a reliable source for such things in this world, though I doubt that I would have the means necessary to purchase such thing even if I had. [He shrugs it off a bit. As long as he's got the one on his hip, he's content.] Mickey's products make decent substitutions, all things considered.

Uh huh. You custom made some in the past, I take it?

[it's actually nice to see him act more like a human, even if it is over something like knives.]

I'm surprised you're not a gun nut.

[d33tached]

Guns are sloppy. [He says this quickly, matter-of-fact, waving his hand a bit.] There is a time and place for them, I suppose.

Blades are more easily concealed and, when the user is properly trained, just as lethal as a gun - even from a far range.

[He glances at Archie - is he revealing a little too much about himself right now? Probably. Is he going to stop?]

I am afraid that I can't say I have the skills necessary to craft my own, though I have owned blades custom made for my purposes in the past.

If you wanna be literal, any weapon is sloppy.

[archie clearly isn't thinking too hard about all of this in relation to d33.]

Maybe you could learn. I know its nice to be able to make things for yourself.

[D33 doesn't necessarily agree, but he can understand what Archie is trying to get at, at least.

[He pauses for a moment, looking thoughtful at the suggestion, considering it.]

Yes, perhaps I could. [Actually, that's...not a bad idea. Not bad at all.] Perhaps I will have to look into such a thing. If I am to be honest with you, I would have never considered doing so before now.

[This is gonna be kind of awkward for both of them, but:] Thank you.

I don't suppose that such a thing would have been possible where I came from.

[Which is...a confusing answer considering that he was just talking about how other people made custom knives for him.

[Learning to fashion his own, though. That would have gotten him a step closer to self-sufficient, wouldn't it?]

[Archie certainly does get a look for that question, but it's not necessarily and irritated or combative one. It's a loaded question, though, just like every question with D33 is.]

America, I suppose.

[He's fairly certain of that, at least. There's a bit of a pause then as he considers elaborating. After all, "America" is hardly an explanation.]

The society in which I lived was heavily regulated.

[That's...kind of a better answer, isn't it?]

[Flatly, bluntly, and really only because he hasn't slept in a couple of days and doesn't feel like beating around the bush:]
