No - the animals of this world don't have Types. What Typing means is it effects what the pokemon is strong against, weak to, and what doesn't affect it. Dark is immune to anything Psychic.

I...that is, if I'm actually picked, then I want to know as much as I can to make sure it's taken care for properly. I don't like the idea of having to half-ass anything when there's resources right here to help.

The abilities though... He frowns, squinting in thought.] I'm not an expert - we don't have wild ones in Johto or Kanto, but I know from what I've read or seen that they're persistent things when they want to be. They typically have 'Run Away' as their ability, meaning they're good at escaping, typically in battle, but probably in general too.
They evolve at level 18, but if you're not actively battling, then you shouldn't have to worry about that.
