Shop till you drop

WHO: Violet Harmon and Light Yagami
WHERE: Heropa Shopping district
WHEN: Morning of 1st of July
WHAT: All the shopping!
WARNINGS: None, really.

[After a few weeks out of the slammer, things are starting to feel more normal for Violet. With her ability to have income back to normal, she's doing the one thing some teenage girls do - shop. But first, she's looking for one particular roommate in residence #21.]

Hey, Light. What do you feel about clothes shopping?

[Light's been a great support for her since the beginning and even more so during her brief incarceration. This is just one way of showing her appreciation, really]

I agree. But what do we imPorts do? What's the alternative for now, other than forcibly live in this society, uncertain of the foundation it's built upon?

If we can't trust the government, we have to at the very least trust each other. Otherwise we have nothing to fall back on.

I don't think we have anything to fall back on. We're not organized. I mean, we have the network and people talk on them but I don't think everyone's on the same page.

[she has a few people she trusts to look into things but that's about it]

[Again, he can't disagree. For once, he wishes he legitimately could.]

...What do you think it would take? For all of us imPorts to feel a sense of solidarity?

If someone targeted imPorts and put all of us in danger. [Violet answers without hesitation. From what she's seen, people only grouped together for common causes] Other than that, I don't know.

I'd hope that it would never come to that, however. Solidarity is well and good but at what price?

[a sigh.] Nothing can be simple.

From what I know of the world. Everything's unfair and everything comes at a price.

[she shrugs, looking ahead as they approach the downtown area.]

We're almost there. Just a few blocks down.

...All right. No more depressing talk while we shop.

I make no promises. [she does grin though and leads the way towards a nice little boutique]

[He follows. A boutique? Ah, well. The mannequins on display are mostly marketed towards females, and thus he can't help himself:]

Just what I need. A little sundress.

Don't give me ideas. You'd look good in one.

[there is a decent men's section in there and the people working there are content to leave them alone to browse for now]

Wh- and what exactly is that supposed to mean?

Don't ask questions you don't want to hear the answers to.

[she's just purposefully coy by now as she starts to stroll along the women's section, reaching out to touch the cardigan or blouse that interest her.]

I think I can handle the truth, if there's any truth to be spoken.

[He says, a bit stubbornly, following her. He can look for his own clothing after he hears this.]

[she shrugs, not looking at him as she says]

I'm just saying you're cute. Platonically speaking of course. [best to clarify]

I see.

[this does not strike him as surprising (indicative of probably how many girls have told him that before) but he's still not sure that really equates to looking cute in a sundress.

In any case, he lets it go.]

I'll be looking at the men's clothes if you need me.

[She just grins]

I'll be around here. Shouldn't take long.

[it might take long if she finds a lot of clothes she likes though. She'll be trying them out even]

[Light can take his time, too -- but probably not as much time as Violet. A little while later, he manages to track her down, a few shirts and the like in tow.]

Find anything you like?

[Violet is trying out her last blouse. she looks up when Light comes back again.]

Yeah. I'm almost done.

[she's pulling the price tag dangling behind the collar up front so she could see how much it is]

Some of these prices are killing me though.

[He frowns. It is a little expensive, but Light's pretty frugal with his money; he doesn't buy items impulsively, so he's saved up a bit since his arrival here.]

I can help, if you need me to? I'm not getting very much on my part.

[she looks at him thoughtfully before turning the shirt over. One of those anti-theft tags is attached to it.]

Damn. [she was totally thinking about stealing it] It's fine. I can still afford it.

[But wait a hot minute]

What do you mean, "damn"?

[Was that in response to the anti-theft tag? Come now, Violet.]

[hush. don't judge her]

What do you think? I can't steal it anyway.

Violet, you- you shouldn't be thinking about stealing it in the first place.

Don't start. I've heard it before. [she's not about to stop just because he asked too]

I'm not going to lecture you -- [not here in the middle of the store, because that would hardly be wise] -- but surely you realize it's far more trouble than it's worth?
