FANPORT JUNE 2017

WHO: ImPorts!
WHERE:Nonah Convention Center
WHEN: June 23-25, from 9 AM - 12 AM every day.
WHAT: Registration is in motion alongside FanPort, the most popular imPort convention around! Come on in and see imPort-led panels, the artist's alley, cosplayers, and more! If you have any questions, or wish to amend the way we have written up your characters' panels, let us know here!
WARNINGS: None anticipated; please let us know if this should be changed.

Locals, imPorts, come one and all to FanPort, the annual gathering of imPorts and imPort enthusiasts! Registration volunteers are wrangling the long, long lines wrapping outside the convention center, but attendees are passing the time by competing in a contest sponsored by a local radion station: to create the best imPort-themed viral video clip and post it to social media! #PowersPower #Fandemonium #FanPortVIP

Unless they choose to mingle, as guests of honor, imPorts get to skip the line, receive a gold-trimmed IMPORTANT badge and be escorted through a secure entrance into the convention center proper. But there's no escaping the crowds once they're inside, you will be rubbing shoulders. This year's FanPort is seeing record attendance, and the venue is swarming with enthusiastic con-goers. Once they make their way past an impromptu welcoming committee of squealing fans, imPorts can explore...

ARTIST'S ALLEY

The bustling ballroom is full to brimming of fans selling their creative wares. Hundreds of prints are available for purchase, featuring everything from Magnus Burnsides striking a heroic pose to an artful portrait of Dandy Mott in his study, with his tie unknotted and dribbling down his front. There's even an action crossover depicting the Blue Beetle versus Iron Man, or Jesse Pinkman dancing with Reggie Mantle. Crossover time!

Other tables feature 3-D creations, with maskets full of keychains, buttons, T-shirts, homemade plushies and more. If you can dream of it, it probably exists, and it would be a challenge to name an imPort without some kind of creative representation!

Some artists and fanfiction writers have teamed up to create doujinshi about various imPort couples. imPorts who are known to be seeing each other are likely to see a drawn version of their relationship in this section, but there are also true rarepairs that go against canon, like Lapis Lazuli/Shale, Frederick Chilton/Sam Merlotte, Kitty Jones/John Murphy, Danny Pink/Mitchell Hundred, Jessica Jones/Laurie Collins, Han Solo/Luke Skywalker, Count Dooku/Archie and Rusty Venture/Sadie Doyle. And some of these books are sultry! Outright SHOCKING. You really must buy a few, if only as gifts.

If you don't see what you want being sold already, there are plenty of commissioners who would leap at the chance to provide an imPort with a custom print or doll, just for them! Although some of the dolls getting in the way of the big, popular ships may just be used as voodoo dolls, so watch out!

COSPLAY CONTEST

What's a fan convention without cosplay? There's not a single room in the convention center that lacks multiple cosplayers, but many of them are in it to win it at the cosplay contest. Some have gone to store after store to buy just the right street clothes to accurately portray imPorts like Daryl Dixon and April Ludgate, but others are up for a challenge and are showing off incredible armor creation or sewing work with their Riptide, Maeve Millay, Jean Grey, Petyr Baelish, Doreen Green, and Kanaya Maryam costumes.

And what of imPorts who want to join in? There are only two rules: imPorts may not enter as themselves, nice try jerks, and nor are they allowed to use shapeshifting powers. Other than that, they're welcome to join in on the competitions and the festivities! There are awards being given for everything from Best Performer to Best Costume to Most Accurate Posing, so jump in, and enjoy! ImPorts ARE free to give their own input (or imPut! Haha! So funny!)

IMPORT HALL

Aside from the panels, this is where imports are welcomed as special guests! Above the entire affair is a huge sign that reads, cheerfully: "WELCOME IMPORTS!". Here, imPorts are welcomed to set up their own booths to sell their goods, autographs, and pictures, advertise their businesses, or to simply meet some of their fans! A special photo-op booth is available for imPorts who are game for one-on-one meetings but don't want to set up a booth. Security is tightest around this area, but only for the safety of imPorts; if any fans get a little too touchy-feely without the imPort's consent, rest assured, they'll be hauled out in short notice. There is also a special demonstration area, marked off with cones, where imPorts may show off crowd-appropriate powers for some oohs and aahs.

This is also the place where willing and participating imPorts are showered with special gifts featuring everything from fanmade scrapbooks of their public exploits and fanart, home baked goods, or samples from all sorts of corporate representatives eager to have imPorts represent everything from their makeup lines to their gas-buster pills.

REFRESHMENTS

Forget the generic, slightly stale burgers and fries most commonly found at convention centers. Just outside the venue is a series of imPort-inspired food trucks and stalls. Ready for some Persephone Paprikash? What about some Emmett Brown-ies for dessert? Delicious! And we can't forget the line of So Carbonated They'll Make You Tina Belcher craft sodas. imPorts get a discount if they show of their tattoos to prove they're not just fantastic cosplayers!

DESIGN-YOUR-OWN POWER STATION

This year's FanPort has a special charity room for imPorts who feel like doing some community outreach. Long-term patients at Nonah Children's Hospital who are well enough to travel have been brought to the con, where imPorts who sign up to volunteer will help them dream up their own powers, design their own superhero costume and dress up using a wardrobe of donated costume parts. Each child can then pose in front of a green screen with their favorite imPort to create a superhero team-up!

RAVE

The first two nights of the convention, attendees can get their groove on after hours! The grand hall is opened up to various imPort inspired acts, such as the Woden-inspired Welcome to Valhalla, the Yurio Plisetsky-inspired Ice Ice Babies, and the Stark family-inspired Kings of the North. All of these shows are complete with light shows and complimentary glow sticks, and once the clock hits past 9 PM, a bar opens up in the back for natives and imPorts alike, provided that they're of-age — and yes, they will be checking their IDs!

Want to get your rock on? These acts will gracefully step aside to allow imPort musicians to take the stage, but will respond even more happily to jam sessions.

[ He keeps staring at Yuri for another beat or two before he finally turns his head. He puts on a pair of sunglasses as well. While still inside. (There were a few teenagers that squealed at the sight so he's totally justified in doing it okay.) ]

Dio Brando | OTA

[personal profile] dioception 2017-06-25 09:13 am (UTC)(link)
[A. Artist's Alley]

Dio had enjoyed looking at cosplayers, though he wasn't really interested in who they were, only that some of them were very scantily clad, but that only hold's a man's attention for so long, and he found himself wandering the Artist's Alley, in among the fans. He stood out like a sore thumb, but ignoring people was easy when you were 6'3" and made of muscle. He looked over the top of most of the natives' heads, and easily knocked them out of the way if they were being an annoyance.

Overall, it had been mostly an underwhelming experience. Amateur artists depicting any number of imPorts doing many varying things. He did manage to find something of himself done by a middle-aged woman. He was drawn in his suit, looking rather sultry and more idealized than normal, but it was a very flattering look on him, and he paid the woman in compliments... and a little flirting, because why not? Maybe he should rock the suit look a little more, he thought, but he really loved showing off his body more than a suit allowed.

What ultimately took his attention though was the more ribald wares. Dio absolutely delighted in looking through them. Yes, doujinshi. Various imPorts depicted doing any number of racy acts with each other, in various art styles which sometimes didn't... show the people even a little as they were. Some of these faces and names he recognized, and boy was that a hoot.

"These people certainly have an imagination", Dio said as he turned to the person nearest to him. "Wonder if they've got anything with me in 'em. Wouldn't that be fun?" No, it wouldn't because let's all be honest... if he was depicted in any of these it would probably be with any number of his enemies. Or... Dr. Venture, probably.

Actually no that'd be hilarious. He'd definitely laugh. And buy it. And show it to the poor man.

[B. ImPort Hall]

Dio Brando is not used to conventions. He's not used to seeing them, and honestly this was all a very strange and new experience for him, but it was in honor of imPorts, which meant that he knew he was going to get treated special. He could never turn that down!

With so many imPorts here though, it was hard to really be taken seriously while so many bigger names were around. Still, the ImPort Hall drew Dio in when he found out about the demonstration area. It might only be crowd-approriate powers, but why shouldn't he watch? Get a feel for what these people were capable of, find the weaknesses to exploit. Before long though, someone tried to prod him into it. Dio sneered at the thought of allowing these common folk see what he, Dio, was capable of.

"Fool. I, Dio, cannot demonstrate my strength here. There is nothing here that can withstand it, and nothing heavy enough to demonstrate with", he scoffed, rolling his eyes. "You shall just have to be content with your imagination."

[C. Rave]

Now, Dio went to clubs. He did it rather often! This... was new though.

He found himself in the possession of some free glowsticks, unsure of what to even do with them, but that was hardly the point now. He was here to drink, dance, and maybe take someone home for 'dinner and entertainment'. He was dressed for clubbing, if this was the peak 1980s, and he walked as if he were the best-dressed one in the room, right over to the bar.

It took him a little bit, but a few drinks later, he could be found around the edge of the dance floor, looking over everyone else. This wasn't what he was used to seeing in a club, if only because there were so many different dance styles here that he had never had a chance to explore in his time in Cairo. He wasn't intimidated as much as he was somewhat fascinated. It was like he was learning a new part of human history... or maybe he had drank enough to make this feel like a much bigger experience than it was. Probably a mix of the two.

"Would you care to dance with me", he said soon enough to the nearest person who looked otherwise unoccupied as he looked them over as if scrutinizing them. Truly, he was just attempting to see how hard he would try in order to convince this person to bed with him. Gender wasn't a factor, but there were numerous other things that could affect his level of determination. "Admittedly, I feel like I've been out of the game for a long time, but I'm sure I could brush my skills off."

[The fake Veronicas get a lot of details wrong, but none moreso than their personas, these forced ideas of what the 80's should be like. Actual Veronica is just who she is, and she's considerably more mellow, all in all.

He grins, putting his hands in his pockets in another typically Brendan bit of body language. He doesn't bother to work at fooling people he actually knows, there's just no point.]
Did you ever manage to make chocolate slushies again? The ones you made me were like a religious experience in slush form.

[After a pause to glance around and make sure no one's looking directly at them - which they aren't, everyone's congregating towards the food since it's between panels at the moment - he pulls out a doujinshi and holds it out to her. Flatly, he explains,] It's us.

[And it is. It's made Brendan into some Latin Lover type with a tragic past from Chicago because apparently his slang makes more sense in that context and Veronica is a wayward crimefighter, lonely and looking for love, which she finds at the party they both actually went to. Apparently someone had snapped a picture of them leaving together and overheard Brendan using Spanish and that was all it took.

True to doujinshi style, once the sexy bits ensue their actual personalities - what little was left of them - make a swift exit in favor of porn tropes, but he refuses to read the whole thing because he knows he's bad at blocking out traumatic memories. He refuses to pay for it on the grounds he needs to be able to live with himself afterwards; it's just a wonderful world of do not want that he felt she should be aware of because it's her face, albeit all shoujo-ified, that's being used to sell it.]

You might wanna have a word with the ladies selling these.

Akira Kurusu | OTA

[personal profile] crimeboy 2017-06-25 10:40 am (UTC)(link)
[A. Import Hall]

[Akira had come dressed down, hoping to just... do anything in this world but stand out. Honestly, he was curious! He'd stopped in to see the Artist's Alley, not really knowing what most of it was, and if he saw anything familiar, he made a beeline out of there. No thanks. He's had his fill of embarassment for like... a year. Not that it wouldn't rear it's head again in time, but now was not when he wanted to deal with it. After that, he had to drop by the Cosplay Contest to check it out. Not really his scene, but he had to admire the dedication!

But soon enough he made it to the ImPort Hall. It seemed like this was going to be the place to be. It was pretty amazing to see some of the imPorts getting showered with gifts and the people who were getting swarmed for pictures. All just for being imPorts, huh?]

People really flock to heroes, don't they?

[He spoke aloud, almost wistfully. It wasn't jealousy, or even missing the feeling himself, but more... tentative hope. He hoped that they wouldn't have to face the downfall that the Phantom Thieves once faced, though he supposed those were special circumstances. Surely, no god-like being would be able to convince this whole country that these many numerous imPorts never even existed.]

Is it really a good idea, though? The way people seem to flock to a group of people just because they have powers?

Guess these people have probably had longer to think about that question than I have.

[He laughed a little at himself then, before finally turning to look at whoever was near enough to have actually heard him, kind of hoping to strike up a conversation.]

[B. Refreshments]

[This wasn't the demonstration area, but somehow Akira had garnered a crowd, and not because of any fantastic powers of his.

He had found out about one of the booths doing a food challenge, but this time it wasn't a burger, but a sundae. Fitting for the hot summer weather! And the prize is a year of free ice cream!

The people gathered round have a mix of reactions to the spectacle of Akira attempting to eat probably about a gallon of ice cream. Some are excited, some are disgusted(this is too much food for any one human, really), and some are skeptical about it, murmuring to each other that he probably has some sort of power to help him do this.

The joke is on them though. He has no power to help him here, AND he is weak to ice.

He is absolutely unable to finish it and throws in the towel soon enough, frowning but managing to keep his composure.]

Ugh. Someone wanna help me finish it, then?

[Since he already gave up... best not to let it go to waste.]

[C. Rave]

[After his last party went... the way it did, Akira isn't looking to try and sneak any alcohol this time. He just wants to hang out and dance a little! In fact, he doesn't even have a drink on him right now, just in case Reggie went around touching things. It could happen! There was a water fountain somewhere, probably.

In the end that didn't matter because he was 17 and had glowsticks and there was loud music on and it was dark with some real neat lights here or there, illuminating the dance floor enough for you to see people around you most of the time, but Akira was jamming and could not be stopped, until he ran into someone, then stopping IMMEDIATELY, his posture going tense.]

Ah! S-sorry! Just... getting a little into it is all! Ha.

[Oh geez. At least him running into someone shouldn't be a huge deal. He wasn't huge or particularly heavy, nor did he have any super strength or anything.]

Never thought I'd see anything like this though! It looks like the kind you see in movies!

[He was going to start dancing a little again then, enough to... hopefully not run into any more people, but he could very well do just that. He was a little active when it cam e to dancing, and he certainly didn't seem to have any shortage of confidence.]

[Maybe just look a little bit to your left and away from the awful porn for two seconds, because that's certainly K-2SO, Reprogrammed Imperial Droid Turned Spy, buying at least four different Han/Luke doujinshi. He turns and looks at Han, staring him dead in the eyes with his photoreceptors. Go ahead. Say something, Solo.]

[personal profile] dr_eldarov 2017-06-25 10:41 am (UTC)(link)
[For a moment, the action is both so cute and unexpected he's reminded of his daughter Faina, and he grins back, even as he mentally notes not to tell Sabriel, ever, that he just thought of her as a child. That's the sort of thing she doesn't need to know or deal with.

He tries not to wince at the bit about stopping the Russian invasion. When and where he's from, nobody could be bothered to give a damn about the United States, not in his world. The idea he should be against the US is as absurd as the fact he has to show his imPort tattoo to keep people who are anti-Russian from outwardly expressing all their hatred of him outright.

A welcoming hand is the sort of thing that doesn't apply to Russian imPorts, from what he can tell. Anatoly is hardly about to bring that up; he's spent most of his life knowing the rules that exist and the broad moral statements people make are meant to not apply to him thanks to his Judaism. There may be a new reason here why other people deserve a welcoming hand while he's been too afraid of reprimand to try out half his powers, but he knows this political game. You don't win by pointing out the hypocrisies, you win by surviving it.

Still, there's some dark irony in the fact that the power he doesn't dare experiment with since he's wary of being put on that theoretical list of 'dangerous imPorts' could fry a lot of technology and be useful against actual dangers.

This is all the wrong kind of enlightening, but it was all also very expected.]

[He looks up from the porn, to ask, against his better judgment, if there's any more of his friends in the books. Then he catches Kaytoo and just blinks at him and what he's apparently buying. Which is a lot of Han/Luke doujinshi. One of them has tentacles on the cover, someone please help this poor man.

If he had any sense, he wouldn't try to sass the Imperial droid turned Rebel spy. But this is Han. It might take a half-minute before he can really get the words out, but once he can:]

What, you like me that much? [Dammit.]

Depends on your idea of fun. [This is hell. This is some kind of special hell conjured up especially for Han. He never wants to go near one of these conventions again because, honestly, he's horrendously exhausted just from being here and being mobbed by fans.]

What about you? I bet you're having loads of fun. [It's sarcastic, and there's a little edge to Han's voice at the moment that signals just how tired he is.]

[ For Jorah Mormont to weather the steady circulation of the crowd this far out into the open, Lord Ambassador Baelish must not be far away. He’s in scuffed armor, tall enough to have eyes on despite the density of the crowd -- space to move in open around him where he’s made it, one thumb hooked idle over the pommel of his sword.

Like a horse tied off to a post in a busy square, he’s absent on his feet, mind on the wait and the movement of the crowd. Trying to remember what fresh air and scrubgrass smell like.

A flash of yellow draws his attention over his shoulder, and he twists to look back, recognition relieved in the furrow of his brow. Flying encyclopedia friend. ]

[Part of it's the vantage point. The rest is just—

Kriff, this is awkward. Han can't help but look down with a little sad sigh as Kylo steps back, but he stays where he is, uncertain of what to do next. What to say next. His son had been pretty clear that he didn't want to talk to him, and as much as it breaks Han's heart to do so, he'd respected those wishes, mostly so he could reel from the shock of it. And here they are now and—

—he has Leia's eyes.]

So why come out to this convention in the first place? Didn't think you liked parties like this. [It's casual, it's small talk, and it is incredibly obvious that Han is trying to keep hold of his light, casual demeanor. It's even more obvious that he's failing, from how he rocks back onto his heels, how he holds himself like he wants nothing more than to hug his son, apologize for whatever he did, fix something. Anything.]

[Some small tiny part of Han wonders, distantly, what the hell did he do to deserve this. The rest of him is too preoccupied with, uh, crashing and burning and screaming in sheer horror.

Outwardly, this just manifests in Han staring, dumbfounded, at the page, like a man would stare in fascinated horror at a trainwreck, or a really bad movie, or the abyss waving right back at him. Somehow, he still manages to find the strength for words:]
What the hell.

Good

That is why I bought them.

[To record that face Han just made because it was perfect.

That doesn't explain why Kay bought four of them, though.

[ Adachi let out an awkward noise, followed by a sheepish laugh. ]

Ah... sorry. I just never got your name... I don't think...

[ Did they exchange names? So much had happened since he helped her in the crowds, that he couldn't remember to save his life. His shoulders slumped after a moment, defeated. ]

...or I just can't remember.
sleight_of_hand: (I've got an urge...)

[personal profile] sleight_of_hand 2017-06-25 12:09 pm (UTC)(link)
No you weren't.

[ The accusatory tone in Adachi's voice is obvious, and he really doesn't care how much attention it's drawing right now, or if Yurio can see it. Someone needed to say it so it actually got through his stubbornly thick skull and stuck this time. ]

If you were, you'd've heard what he was trying to say. He's hurting, Viktor; not just because of what you did with me, but he's suffering from Yuuri's loss here too. He's trying so hard to convince himself he's going to be okay, but he doesn't believe it, and it is obvious.

[ He took a deep breath, letting go of his jacket, but grabbing his arm instead. His grip was tight, and he lowered his voice as another skater guy he didn't recognize went out. ]

This shit is why I'm doing what I'm doing; so people like you and Yurio can go back home and not have to worry about being randomly dragged to a place like this. Where you guys can live out your lives like you were meant to, and never have to worry about this place again. Or the people in it.

[ People like him; someone he'd been putting too much focus on before this, and now Yuri was suffering for it. Adachi wasn't going to address that right now -- that was a conversation for another time -- but he still gave him a hard look, like he was trying to drive his point home. ]

So stop moping. Yuuri is safe at home. You and Yurio are both here; and yeah, he's a pretty independent kid that can take care of himself, but he still needs a role model he can look up to. And right now you're all he has.

[ He finally let go of Viktor's arm then, pushing him back and toward the skater prep area as if he was saying, "You better damn well have a costume back there." ]

Now, pull yourself together.
sleight_of_hand: (You seriously suck.)

[ And there's that annoyed look. Seriously, Crane? ]

How do you expect the average person to know the psych babble you just dribbled out?
carbonfrozen: (from the long arm of the law)

[He offers a blank look.]

By educating themselves, naturally.

They're all different. This one-

[He holds up a different doujinshi that breaks a bit of the trend- it's very specifically LUKE x Han, not Han x Luke. The cover makes this much obvious, as well.]

-will be a gift.
sleight_of_hand: (You seriously suck.)

You expect them to do that in the middle of a panel!?

[ Crane, please! ]
oddbod: (high achiever don't you see)

[Clara shakes her head, looking up at him with what's almost a laugh.]

That already happens on a weekly basis. You're a much better disruption than some of the others, like when I got kidnapped by Soviets, or when I got kidnapped by my sister-in-law's crazy ex, or when the Doctor found the skunk ape and brought him back to my house.

[That was a wild Tuesday.]

Point is, you popped in during the lone idyllic week in what's otherwise a madhouse. There's not much more damage you could do.

[ Lando can't help but spot Han making a fuss, so he casually walks up to the line of Han Solo cosplayers and inserts himself between Han and the poor fellow with no bloodstripes. (A glaring oversight, really, how could you miss such an important detail?) ]

Now, now, gentlemen. I'm sure there's a way to solve this peacefully.

[ He places a hand on the fake Han's shoulder, and the cosplayer instantly grows a moustache. ]

Oh, now what's this? Han has no facial hair! I'm afraid you're disqualified, my friend.
restingstitchface: (Contempt)

[personal profile] restingstitchface 2017-06-25 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
No. I don't expect them to do anything.

[He diverts his eyes back to the panel and ignores the audience. Tries to, at any rate.]
bragnificent: (I won't hesitate、 bitch!)

ELSEWHERE.

[ By this point in the day Reggie is just wandering the convention at semi-random, having already hurried out of the Artist Alley and exhausted the wrist of his autograph-signing arm. The animated crowds of kids draws Reggie's attention in the direction of Blue Beetle, and while Reggie has never actually seen the guy in person, it's pretty easy to guess who he is.

So, Reggie walks over, and once the crowds thin a bit, says:
]

Hey. You're that Blue Beetle guy, right?
h2no: (yeah.... no)

[archie's brows draw together in a frown and he nods sympathetically, putting a hand on danny's shoulder.]

You wanna go outside for a breather?
