[OPEN] we are always running for the thrill of it

WHO: Light Yagami and YOU!
WHERE: Here and there.
WHEN: The weekend of 6/28-/6/29.
WHAT: Light being Light over the course of a weekend?
WARNINGS: None thus far. Open for more scenarios, so send me a message if you want me to comment with a starter or anything!

01. coffee shop

[It's a sunny afternoon in Herpoa. And while Light often regards the weekends as the same as weekdays (with just less to do on the schedule), a rare part of him is actually enjoying the easygoing nature of the day.

"Easygoing", of course, being a relative term.

The cafe is fairly busy this afternoon. The hustle and bustle and murmur of the crowd forces his mind to keep focused on the book he's reading, while people pass by his little table for two, laughing and talking and, generally, being loud. It's a concentrated effort, forcibly reading and comprehending Dostoyevsky while distractions swirl around him; and -- for whatever many reasons that define Light as the person he is -- he's actually enjoying himself.

As it turns out, there's not very many open seats left outdoors. The chair across from him, however, remains empty and up for grabs, if anyone passing by should need it.]

02. coffee shop redux

[Light's incredibly focused state only proves to tempt fate, however. For a long while, he reads without incident -- until a group of young teenagers, attentions pointed amongst themselves and not at their surroundings, bump into Light's table. Being a rather small piece of furniture, it's not very stable to begin with; it lurches with the seemingly benign impact, tipping over his open coffee cup and spilling it across the table.

Light reacts by immediately scooting back in his chair, holding his book away from any impending coffee stains of doom. The liquid slowly spills over the edges of the table and he curses under his breath, lifting his eyes up to almost-glare at the group of teens -- who are, of course, already walking away, completely oblivious to the inconvenience they happened to cause Light.]

Figures. [He murmurs, uselessly grabbing the small napkin on his table to clean up what he can.]

03. outdoor tennis court

[Light vs. the Tennis Ball Machine. Though he'd not consider it the ideal situation, it's better than nothing. At least he seems busy enough, running about in his appropriate athletic garb, hitting the bright yellow balls back with a ferocity that should likely be reserved for human competitors.

The temperature's a bit warmer today and Light has already worked up a sweat; he's been there for awhile yet, and though it would be more prudent to take a break, the teenage boy is simply determined to keep pushing himself.

He's good, but he's only human. As his movements become more strained, a handful of the tennis balls go flying wildly, veering off to the side.

If someone happens to be watching, or just passing by closer than necessary, that someone might not appreciate being hit with said tennis ball...]

04. park bench

[And sometimes, he just wears himself out.

It's late afternoon , and though he'd never say so out loud, his feet hurt. There's a small wooden bench near a shade tree that looks more than inviting, and a minute later and Light is seated, leaning back and heaving a slow sigh. He closes his eyes and brings a hand up to pinch the bridge of his nose. He feels the dull throb of a headache coming on. Maybe he should stop by the drugstore later.

He adds it to the list of Things To Do Later, but allows himself respite for now.]

05. choose your own adventure

[OOC: Wildcard! Or if you want me to set up a starter, just PM me and I'll happily do so.]

[His words seem to be packed with some kind of meaning, but Kate isn't certain if she's hearing the right meaning. She studies him for a moment and decides to go ahead and ask.] Frustrating in the "I know how you feel because I'm experiencing it, too" way, I'd bet?
selfequipped: (he spent too much on it of course)

Most of the investigations I've done, even as a detective, have been pretty ... impulsive. [That's something she has to admit. If he's helping the law enforcement, it's much more official. And she's been lectured by a police officer often enough lately for her involvement to know that she's not exactly doing things by the book.

Back home, that is. She doesn't really care about what Miles Edgeworth has to say about what she's up to.]

I can't imagine being pulled away from something more organized. Especially if you have leads.
selfequipped: (space is SO interesting face)

It's a new profession. I needed some cash, and I ... apparently stumbled into a city that required investigating.

[The job would be a lot less high maintenance otherwise. Seeking out the cause ended up becoming a bigger job than she expected, and Kate has a feeling it's going to get worse.

Much worse.]

Before that, most of my work happened to be more on the hero side of things. I looked into things, but it was more on the fly.
selfequipped: (he spent too much on it of course)

[personal profile] selfequipped 2014-07-22 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I agree, but what I stumbled into was as a result of just trying to take up small cases. Lost cats, things like that. I advertised as a Hero for Hire, even, but I had to get people to hire me.

[In a way, the "Hero for Hire" thing was wishful thinking. It turned out that looking into what makes a hero who works small scale things meant trying to figure out how to do things the average way.

Of course, Kate won't completely admit that embarrassing lesson.]

Oh, that's definitely the plan. I've worked with a freelance detective already, and I intend to do more of it in the future. ["Freelance detective" is the only way she can think of referring to Batwoman, and Kate isn't going to clarify that matter. Not yet.

What she does clarify is her training here.]
Without picking up detective work on the fly, I've had more of an opportunity to sit down and look into the proper procedures I should be following. It's ... helped.
selfequipped: (he spent too much on it of course)

[personal profile] selfequipped 2014-07-28 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
I'll definitely keep you in mind, Light. What job did you get here again?

[She's sincere in her tone, especially since Kate has a feeling that nearly anyone around her has more experience. Taking that help isn't a bad thing. She's a team person, after all; shunning help is the last thing she'd do.]
selfequipped: (even ... indigo ... okay)

[personal profile] selfequipped 2014-07-30 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Oh ... yeah, intern work can be both good and bad. [Of course, now she's picturing Light carrying coffee during the boring parts of it. She doesn't think that's inaccurate.]

And I assume murder investigations are what you prefer?
selfequipped: (do I suck? I suck right?)

[personal profile] selfequipped 2014-08-01 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Heroes generally focus on "criminal investigations," you know.

[Kate wouldn't think it's morbid, anyway. It seems logical to want to help others, anyway, and sometimes the best way to do it is giving people some peace. Finding murderers is one way to help others.]

The ones that involve murder sometimes require more attention. You stop more that way.
selfequipped: (yes this is a camera.)

[personal profile] selfequipped 2014-08-04 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
It's too bad that you can't do a fast track program, but ...

[She does have an idea. Hans had managed to work things to his favor. While Kate is fairly certain he did it through slightly underhanded means, that doesn't mean that she can't make the recommendation. He doesn't need to be underhanded to get what he wants, after all.]

You can talk to Captain Holiday about finding a better place where your talents can be utilized. They'd be wasting a talent otherwise. He's pulled strings for other people; that means he should be able to do the same for you. Besides, you're way better than them.

He may even be willing to help you speed up your education.

[If anything, Kate has learned the extent the government will go to ensure that certain individuals get what they need.]

It's worth a shot. Just don't mention my name. He does this sigh every time I talk to him for some reason.
selfequipped: (does noh-varr think he can dance??)

[personal profile] selfequipped 2014-08-10 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
That's a nice way of phrasing it.

[Kate is fully aware of the fact that she can be a little ... much at times.

She doesn't really dial it down, though.]
selfequipped: ((clint) at least you cleaned up)

[personal profile] selfequipped 2014-08-12 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's more that he doesn't have as many tools to be the instrument of change. He can file reports, but I'm not sure they do a whole lot of good.

[At least she's sympathetic with Holiday on that front. For that reason, she's been trying to determine a different approach to things.]
