"Was it?" asked Cassian reflexively, a bit grimly. The correct assumption was never but...
On the lighter note: "Not to human ears at least."

There's a moment's silence, during which the trio on-screen start slurping up bugs and worms. Veronica very slowly turns to look at Cassian.
"How do you know that?" Oh god, now she's gonna be staying up late thinking it over now. Can animals sing? What do they sing about? Why is she thinking about this?

He's actually smiling a bit at the animation (nice prosocially adaptive survival technique). Looks at her in some surprise at the question. Know what? Reels his mind back from the vid to their conversation.
—Oh. Yes. He usually corrects for it but it's a common miscommunication across the divide between methodology training and not, definitely not unique to Veronica: taking a negative as a presumptive.
"I don't know that they do. I just meant we have insufficient information to rule it out. We can only accurately assess that they don't sing in a way we understand."
To lighten (or at least make less technical) the moment, he tilted his head back to the screen. "This currently being my sole point of reference for the species, I possibly have worse odds at accuracy than if I blindly guessed."
…that was less technical?
