[By now Kaneda and Maya are in his bathroom, applying red dye to the bleached spot in Kaneda's fringe. They've been giggling and flirting since it started, the nerds, and if any small dogs are wandering around they might hear the two chatting through the slightly ajar door.]

C'mon, stay still!

[She laughs.]

You're gonna get this stuff everywhere.

Miss Maaayaaaa!

[Komasan calls as he wanders the house, looking for his friend. He's apparently been at it for awhile, sounding just as upset as he always does when he finds something to complain about. Thankfully, he doesn't have to search long, his tiny ears twitch when he hears...something, and begins his journey to track them down.

It was long and treacherous and he probably fought a bear along the way.]

Miss Maya!! I found another dust bunny! This one is almost as big as my head, zura!! I don't know how we can sleep in this--

[As he opens the door of the bathroom--it was ajar so he assumes it's okay--he's greeted to some sort of...weird human ritual?? After giving himself a few seconds to soak this all in, he absolutely loses it.]

M-MONGE!!

Y-You guys are painting your hair, zura?! [BUT HOW??] It's so stylish, I-I-

[He begins to bounce all over the bathroom as he begins to coo over everyone's hair. Maya's especially grabs his attention, and not simply because she's his favorite person.]

D-Did you make your hair look like space, zura?! H-How...it's so pretty, zuraaaa~

Oi, Komasan!

[Maya was just finishing up, thankfully--his dye job didn't take nearly as long as Tetsuo's, or even her own--because he's tilting his head ever so slightly to greet the komainu walking through the door.]

She looks pretty great, huh?

[He hasn't really seen his own just yet, but he's not going to deny Maya's probably got him beat. More hair = more colour.]

[Look, it's not that Maya disagrees or anything-- but hearing compliments on her hair, even from Komasan, really reaffirms the idea that, well. This wasn't a mistake. She grins, laughing a little at how Komasan's reacting.]

You're gonna take off into space if you keep bouncing like that!

[She teases, leaning over and shaking her hair over her shoulder so Komasan can get a better look. She still has the gloves from Kaneda's dye on, so she can't use her hands.]

Kaneda looks like a sentai ranger. And Tetsuo got his hair dyed, too!

[That's okay, Komasan has hands to spare. Unable to hold himself back, he begins to play with her hair, his paws brushing through the strands as he watches his little paw-fingers disappear into all that color. It's like melting into space itself and he loves it.

Oh wait right Kaneda's here.]

Mm, yeah, I guess they look nice too, zura.

[...He means it despite how uninterested he sounds. No offense, but their hair isn't space.]

[That lower lip juts out as he hears that remark, about to shove the dog with his boot, thinking better of it. Doesn't mean he didn't THINK about it, though.]

Oi, you guess? You're not saying she did a bad job, are you?

[Sorry, Komasan, you wanna play that game?]

[Maya can't help but giggle, looking up over her shoulder at Kaneda.]

He's got a point, y'know! I did theirs too.

[It's ok ~~red ranger~~ Kaneda.]

[Oh dear, there was a misunderstanding. That's okay, he'll just have to explain himself better!]

O-Oh, no, I just meant I like Miss Maya's hair better, zura.

[SURELY THAT EXPLAINS EVERYTHING.]

That's the same exact thing!

[Maya help him out here!]

[Sorry, Kaneda, Maya's too busy laughing and pulling off the dye gloves to correct Komasan.]

C'mon, Kaneda, I think your hair looks fancy. It's okay.

[She's still chuckling, though she at leasts casts Kaneda a little grin.]

Too bad Komasan doesn't have any hair to dye, though. I was kinda having fun.

[He doesn't understand, he never said it was bad... He just said Maya's was better... Couldn't something be good but something else be better? Humans are so weird sometimes...

Speaking of weird human things, hair in general. Maya's comment catches him off guard and all his prior excitement seems to disappear. A paw is thrown behind his head as he begins to chuckle nervously.]

H-Heh, yeah, that's too bad, z-zura...

[Kaneda doesn't speak for the first few moments, wandering over to the mirror to check out the red streak in his hair. It looks...nice. It's not a full dye like Tetsuo's, or a fancy pattern like Maya's, but just a dash of something...It's recognizable.

He's only partially paying attention to the conversation going on in the background, flipping that streak to get it back to seamlessly blending into his hair.

And then he hears Maya's little lament.]

...

[And Komasan's reply.

Without missing a beat, or even looking up from the mirror, his mouth speaks before he can stop it. Not that he'd stop it in the first place.]

Oi, can't you change into a human?

[And suddenly, all of Maya's attention is on Komasan.]

You can shapeshift?!

[AND YOU DIDN'T SHOW HER YOUR COOL SHAPESHIFTING POWERS??? bad dog]

[Komasan never thought he'd ever experience the feeling that is "dying on the inside," but the moment Kaneda opens his big dumb mouth, it's like his world spirals into darkness. He was keeping that a secret. Not...that he told Kaneda that, he just sort of...trusted him...

...OH GOD, WHY DID HE TRUST HIM?

Face frozen in horror, he looks between Kaneda, betrayed, and Maya, heartbroken. He's unsure how to get out of this, WHAT DOES HE DO? WHAT DOES HE SAY?]

I....I....

[His voice is higher than usual, practically a squeak. He didn't want Maya to know, he sleeps with her. She'll think he's weird! No one wants their dog to end up being some guy, look at Inuyasha. That worked out for nobody.]

[Komasan's soft stuttering is enough to attract his attention away from the mirror, looking at the youkai, and then at Maya.

...

Giving Maya a shrug.

What'd he say?]

[Maya gives Kaneda a shrug right back. She doesn't know what happened, either.]

...Ummm, Komasan?

[....]

You okay, pal?

[Why are they acting so calm? Don't they realize the raging storm of emotions they just unleashed within him? Maya must be playing it cool for her own sake, there's no way this can't upset her. He'll have to move out, go back to his house in De Chima, all alone in his room as he risks a random kidnapping from some war he doesn't understand. All because he got careless.

...Maybe he can save this, maybe he can set things right.]

I-I have no idea what he's talking about, z-zura...

[OH GOD NO NOW HE'S A LIAR. HIS MOTHER WOULD NEVER SPEAK TO HIM AGAIN. KANEDA, WHY?!]

I-I mean, I might know a little bit, z-zura...

[And just to help the situation, Kaneda walks over, standing next to Maya with hands in his pockets.

[Oh no, there it is, she really is upset.]

[That's it, there's no going back. Even if he doesn't want to, he can't keep hiding his terrible dark secrets from Maya. Look at her, she's probably fuming. ...More on the inside, this mild annoyance act she's pulling is obviously just for his sake. She's so kind, so thoughtful. Unlike him, a dirty rotten secret keeper.

Shuffling his feet, he gives a small sigh as he mentally prepares himself for what's to come. He's really going to miss sleeping with her...]

[Without saying anything, Komasan just sort of...changes in front of them. It's nothing flashy or fancy, just a really smooth transition from dog to person. He's significantly taller, at least compared to the walking stuffed animal that is Komasan Classic, but it doesn't make him feel anymore confident. In fact, he's still a trembling mess as he throws his hands over his face, apparently ashamed for whatever reason he gave himself.

It was easier with Kaneda, he didn't care what Kaneda thought. Maya's opinions actually matter.]

I'm so sorry, Miss Maya, I should've told you sooner, zura....

...

[Well, that got him to change for her, certainly, but he's not really sure why he's freaking out about it. They were in a world with powers, right?

And hey, at least Komasan was ORIGINALLY a komainu, unlike some weirdo in a bear-suit who just liked to be a mascot 24/7.]

She's not mad!

[A quick lean in to Maya.]

[Maya's about to speak when Kaneda cuts her off.]

[Somewhere in some other world a bear must be very jealous.]

And now we can dye his hair, too! You really shoulda told me sooner, though.

[That was exactly what he wasn't expecting. Komasan's head jerks up as he looks at the two of them, clearly very confused. He can already feel his dumb swirly cheeks grow red, is he seriously the only one who thinks this is weird? Him? The guy from the world that gave us the sentient wall? What even is a Teddie?]

Y-You...you really want to dye my hair, zura?!

[A hand absentmindedly goes to touch said hair and it's almost humorous how much it throws him off when he realizes just how different that shit is from fur. This...isn't really a form he goes into very often if it wasn't obvious enough, he never really thought about his hair this much before.]
