And it’s our time now if you want it to be
WHO: YOU.
WHERE: Orlando and then Heropa, Florida.
WHEN: Friday February 13th, from 7 PM to 9:25 PM. Following that, till after midnight.
WHAT: Registration in motion... among other things. Please refer to the OOC post for details.
WARNINGS: None anticipated; please let us know if this should be edited.
There's a crowd waiting just outside the reception hall, having been waiting for nearly two hours to catch a glimpse of their Heroes. The event's organizers have actually set up a line barring anyone who is not attending the Swear-In from crossing and for the most part, locals keep behind these lines, snapping harmless pictures, or sometimes excitedly calling for an imPort on their way inside the building to pose for a picture or ask for an autograph.
The citizens of Orlando are more than happy to see their heroes. Many of them will thank imPorts for their assistance during the October incidents. There will be the occasional one or two reporters who aren't allowed within the building who will ask about Sofia, Bulgaria, and imply maybe imPorts aren't as patriotic as one would believe. Luckily for imPorts, they don't have to stand around conversing as they will be ushered in by unfamiliar faces.
The inside of the hall has been decorated in red, gold, and white. An enormous, glistening chandelier hangs in the middle of the hall, encircled by a second level of stairs that lead to a room being occupied above by these unfamiliar faces. They are not with the military and asking around will reveal they are Federal agents from Washington, D.C., here to act as security for the night. There are also rumors Captain Ananke was cut from the list of invites at the very last minute.
A large buffet table, packed with delicacies and other foods, is lined on the opposite end of the room, not too far from the mini-bar. The bartender is overseen by a Federal agent, so even if he wanted to offer those under 21 a drink, he wouldn't be able to.
The media have their own tables and representatives from Orlando's City Hall, including its mayor, are seated not too far from imPorts. He will take the time to approach imPort Ambassadors and congratulate them on their winning the elections in their representative city.
The tables take up most of the hall, including where the dance floor should be. At the end of the room a couple of Feds are setting up what looks to be a classic projection machine, only its design is sleeker and much more compact than the original device.
At 8 PM Secretary of Defense Lacey Chases finally makes her appearance, and her statement:
Ex-Captain Holiday's statement can be found here. Miguel Rodriguez's statement can be found here. Please limit yourself to one thread (per player, not character), and each character will be cut off from asking more questions after they've asked six, maximum.
At 9:25 PM a wave of concern washes over the room and the slight panic as the Federal agents are suddenly on the move, patching into their communicators and asking for everybody to begin leaving the room in a calm and orderly fashion.
Heropa is under attack, they say. What will you do now, Heroes?

" The new frontier of which I speak is not a set of promises -- it is a set of challenges. It sums up not what I intend to offer the American people, but what I intend to ask of them. It appeals to their pride, not to their pocketbook -- it holds out the promise of more sacrifice instead of more security. But I tell you the new frontier is here, whether we seek it or not. "
( from jfk's speech "the new frontier," 7/15/1960. )

- "We have been hearing there has been a lot of misinformation coming out of Heropa and its sister cities regarding multiple facets of the imPort situation. We aim to clear some of that up tonight. Before I go any further, I would like to say a few words about a man named Ira Ditko, a name some of you may recognize as belonging to a deceased man recently found on a beach in Cape Canaveral. Mr. Ditko was a civilian who had been looting imPort properties for their communicators before the government could reclaim them and wipe them of any personal data or information; you may understand how this is a serious concern to us both in that it's a serious privacy breach and security breach. Effective immediately, Captain Ananke will be leading a security team to upgrade the deadbolts and locks on every government-owned imPort property as well as installing new security systems. The installation will include instructions on how to enable or disable these systems should you choose to.
Ditko was selling several of these communicators to buyers we have not yet been able to locate or identify, but we urge caution among imPorts not to assume any of these buyers couldn't have been individuals identifying as "Hornets."
Moving on: Ex-Captain Holiday and inmate Miguel Rodriguez have asked to make brief statements to the imPort community at large, and we have decided, in the interest of transparency and clarifying aforementioned misinformation, to grant their requests. They will be phoned in via holo-communication, and you will be allowed to ask them a short number of yes or no questions. Do not abuse this privilege or waste their time, or such communications will be disallowed from future ceremonies or events altogether.
Thank you."

GAMAGORI IRA | REGISTERED NONAH IMPORT AMBASSADOR | OPEN
Bother new ImPorts.
He's not much of a mingler, and he won't really take advantage of the food offered. Though if brought a drink or bothered by anyone he's not rude enough to push them aside. So should someone wish to speak to him without Gamagori going to them himself, he'll stop to speak. But for the most part he focuses on faces he isn't familiar with, or those ImPorts that stand out as new. The ones lingering around Registration signups and what not. Eventually going to one and offering a massive sized hand.
"Hello- Gamagori Ira, newly elected ImPort Ambassador of Nonah. Welcome and apologies for the difficulties this change has brought. Have you been managing well?"
no subject
He looks at the hand, keeping it cool. Then he lifts his gaze and returns the invitation - not too hard, but not soft either. He hated being touched, but it was necessary.
He gives a smile.]
Of course. I've been getting along quite well.
Congratulations on your new post. It seems well-deserved.
no subject
[A small smile back and he shakes his hand. Firm, if anything, a little too firm, but he won't linger and pulls it back again, looking down to him with his posture staying stiff and perfect. Has a very military look to him, just in how he holds himself. It suggests experience in it, despite he actual lack of true experience there at all. Unless you count Honnouji.]
Thank you sir, I will do my best to live up to it's title. Responsibility will only widen the path I have been given. [Nods.]
Your name, sir?
no subject
[A title which meant nothing to him, anymore. His identity had changed in Gotham, altered him, developed him to reach a deeper understanding of fear. Here, the charade of it was more a means to finish what he'd started.
A calmer smile, and he reclaims his hand, which clasps with its partner behind his back. He stretches them, and his arms, down a little. He watches the taller man curiously, analyzing every gesture and detail.]
I'm a psychiatrist in Nonah. [His eyes flick around, then return just as fast.] Enjoying yourself?
no subject
It's a pleasure to meet you, sir! I wish to get more familiar with the ImPorts that share Nonah together with me and consider this a pleasant surprise. [Means it too, Gamagori is very well meaning and dedicated, though his dedication is more complicated than it seems on the surface. Not to the Government, perhaps not even to the ImPorts fully, but them more so than the latter. He is dedicated though, despite the ambiguity of it, and is the sort to see his goals to the end-
or his own.]
I see. Yes, I suppose so, as much as I can without forgetting my duties here. I plan to stay alert and greet as many as I can, as well as introduce myself to others like you. I appreciate you finding me here and speaking with me! [Knows he's not hard to find at all, finds it to be a merit more than anything. Not really interested in stealth after all.]
no subject
He'd received the letter. It took a certain fear to stoke the fire of dedication.
His smile became a little proud.]
It's not a bother. [It is - but he has reasons.] You're acting like quite the politician. Speaking of that, you mentioned something about an assembly? Interviews as well?
no subject
I haven't had experience in this sort of position sir, but thank you. I will try to play my part. [A nod. Not a fear in him ABOUT failing, infact he doesn't much- cross any bridge until he gets to it. Confident and hopeful till the fall, if it ever happens.]
Yes.
The Interviews are to lead to a Bill I am meant to give, giving guidelines for any changes the ImPorts in Nonah wish. I am willing to meet with any ImPorts of my city willing to speak with me and will adjust my schedule accordingly. These Interviews can tale place before, during, or after the assembly which I have scheduled on the 28th of this month. Again- it is subject to change should anything occur.
Are you interested in either, Mr. Crane?
no subject
Of course. Whichever's most helpful.
[He's positively delighted to. His smile comes over as friendly. His body seems calm and his gaze sharp and level, but he's pointing his feet at each other, and feeling increasingly excited. Test his ideas on the head of things, or the heart of things. What a brilliant choice between two worthy ideas.]
Shall we say the assembly? My schedule is full right now. I'm sure you understand.
no subject
Of course sir. [Nods. Knowing full well how busy this time of month can be, for himself and others.]
Going through a few interviews during the meeting won't be a problem and will give others a moment to introduce eachother. It is important for the ImPorts here to acknowledge one another and take on their own responsibilities as a part of this group. [A breath, closing his eyes for a moment.]
Though I recognize a lack of interest is there. I will not force my hand in this situation, but shall merely appreciate those who assist me more.
no subject
Well. I'm quite glad to offer my assistance. Social cohesion is a boon for the community. People need to feel they're not alone with their problems - it's why I encourage group therapy for some of my patients. Should you desire my help, of course.

"Thanks for the welcome. I'm May Parker," she responds, and accepts the offer of a handshake, even as Gamagori's hand pretty much swamps hers entirely. He's got to be at least Juggy's size!
"I'm one of the ones who got that letter of yours in the mail. I was wondering what that was all about."
no subject
"May Parker, I will remember that. It is a pleasure to meet you, Ms. Parker." A small bow of his head, still in habit being from Japan and all, but he's been doing well to adopted handshaking as well.
"I remember your name, I made sure to mail each out personally and am happy now have an image to place with those words. My letter was concerning my recently gained position of Ambassador of Nonah. I assume you read it?" A brow raise. What that was all about? Wasn't he obvious in the letter... He- he hopes he was?
no subject
"I hadn't thought of how how seriously the government- everyone here, really- took the imPort situation until I got here and saw everyone out there and how everything in here was being ran."
no subject
"The ImPort 'situation' is very much real, though that that only makes me wonder what your opinions on it are, if you have any. Or if this is proof that you really haven't thought enough on the matter to form one, or realize how the situation has grown." A breath, closing his eyes for a moment.
"While I recognize the lack of interest much of the ImPort population has on possible changes that could be made to our situation, I, Gamagori Ira, will still continue to do what I can to appease those in my city, and perhaps others as well!" Puffs up a little, pulling in a breath.
"I take my title seriously! As well as my new and ever existent responsibilities as both the Nonah ImPort Ambassador and Registered Import in this country!" That and- Gamagori is just serious in general. Really- ImPorts don't- care much on a large level, and this whole Ambassador thing is most likely just means to shut Imports up. But he likes to take shit to the extreme and MAKE them acknowledge the power they've given him.
A means to shut the ImPorts up? But then- isn't really just an opportunity to bother them more?
no subject
"I've only been here for a week, so I'm still trying to learn about everything going on. You said it's grown? How?"
no subject
None of this was about popularity, unless popularity made it easier to reach a higher place. No true- direct goal was in mind getting this Ambassador position, but he knew it would lead to more available to him and those he cared about.
All that- aside. he's- really not being THAT intense about this. Gamagori's 'intense' is- something far more extreme. This? Well- he's just- naturally intense, even when not trying to be. So it's commonplace for people to think he's doing more than he should, or is overly serious. No- he just IS serious.
"The increasing number of ImPorts as well as anti-ImPort activity being the situation, Miss."
no subject
You're welcome to call me May, by the way." He can't be that much older than her.
no subject
A- slight hitch. Ever getting used to people being so friendly with their names here. He nods in a pause, glancing down for a moment before to her again. Yes she- doesn't look older than him, this is true. But then again, most people around his age don't look older than him, it's that serious look he always has and that- size.
"Of course, May." Though- hesitant.

And up some more. Whoa, that is one big guy.
"Ah, hello," said Normie, putting down his plate so he could return the handshake. "Thank you, Mr. Gamagori. I've been managing well enough. There's certainly a lot to learn."
After he realized he had some brownie crumbs stuck around the corners of his mouth as a result of his hasty eating, he wiped his mouth with the back of his hand after their handshake. Not exactly his best form, but he had forgotten to grab a napkin when he had his chance at the buffet table.
"I'm Norman Osborn, from Residence 4. I received your letter the other day. I'm glad to know we have such a proactive representative here."
no subject
"Ah, forgive me! I caught you just as you were eating." Hitches slightly, feeling rude there, he hadn't meant to do that, the greeting was just getting so- second nature? And a face he hadn't seen before got him rolling out the carpet again and fast, already extending a hand before he realized his mistake.
Still- they shake hands, despite the awkwardness in the air, and Gamagori pulls back from it, bending his arms behind him and standing tall. Not comment on the food, stuck in teeth or otherwise. Might not be his best form but it's not his fault, Gamagori will take it purely on himself.
"Norman Osborne, good to meet you, sir." Brows up. "You received it! Good then, I hope it was easy enough to understand. Are you new here or have you been living in Nonah for some time?"
no subject
His face now crumb-free, he gave the larger man a sympathetic smile. "Don't worry about it. I was just sort of mindlessly snacking while I was people watching anyway."
Because there certainly were a large group of people here. More than he had expected. Honestly, he wasn't sure what exactly he was expecting, but seeing this many imPorts was surprising all the same. It really drove home the idea they were being taken from all across dimensions.
"Oh, it was very easy to understand. I've kept your letter in one of my drawers should I ever require your services as ambassador." Sure, he might have been trying to butter the guy up some by telling him this (after all of his grandfather's "friends" coming out of the woodwork, having even potential allies seemed more important than ever), but it was also the truth. The letter really was stored away in case he might need official assistance later. "I'm one of the new batch of imPorts. In fact, I just formally registered about a half hour ago."
no subject
"Oh. Yes, of course, sir." A nod. Told to not worry- then he won't, even if he does a little. He hardly wants to be thought of as rude, especially to a fellow that seems quite polite himself. He- can't tell if he's older than him though- maybe. A little. Still, unsure or not, he will act respectful, he does it with everyone unless they get out of line.
"I'm happy to hear that! Due to the attitude I got previously concerning my campaign, I was unsure how well I would be received upon election. It is good to know my letter assisted someone, or may in the future." Brows up.
"Oh you did, did you! Good to here! All your paperwork has been filled out then?" Smirks. "I'm happy you made the choice, but should you change your mind, you are able to make that choice."
no subject
"Please, no need to be so formal. Call me Norman." It was just a little weird to have someone around his age calling him sir. "I mean, we have to be around the same age."
Even if this guy is huge, he couldn't be older than 20... Right?
"Did something happen during your campaign? You seem nice enough." More flattery, but again, genuine flattery. Sure, the guy seemed... energetic? enthusiastic? about, well, everything, but it seemed more refreshing than a hindrance.
"Yes, all t's are crossed and all i's are dotted." Normie glanced down at his wrist. "Is that common? People changing their minds?"
no subject
"No, but is seems I have a certain reputation others dislike enough to mention." A slight frown. What a- ridiculous reason to make things difficult after all, ugh.
"I suppose it could be, should the effort be too much. Though as it stands, I don't know anyone who has become Unregistered after registering, not yet anyway."
no subject
"I've found that when people decide they don't like you, they'll find additional reasons to dislike you, regardless of whether or not they have any merit." He almost gave the other man a pat on the arm, but refrained as he wasn't sure he'd appreciate it.
"I see." He took that as a good sign. Well, either that or it was harder to back out than they made it seem. "Well, I doubt I'll find it 'too much.'"
