you just lean on me brother, when you need a hand
WHO: imPorts + some locals
WHERE: Downtown Heropa -> a park
WHEN: Sunday, May 7th
WHAT: It's a Volunteering event, sponsored by the Heropa Organization for imPort Education
WARNINGS: none!
In the past week there've been flyers posted across the various imPort cities, advertising a volunteering event in downtown Heropa, sponsored by the joint efforts of the Heropa Organization for imPort Education (formerly known as the Xavier's School for ImPorts), and local nonprofit charity and relief organizations.
Whether one planned to attend the event, or was merely intrigued by the forming crowd downtown, anyone's presence is warmly welcomed. Emphasis on warm; it's bright and sunny and cloudless today in Heropa, with just a touch of humidity. Bringing or dressing in lighter clothing is recommended, especially for those coming from the other more northern Porter cities. Be sure to wear sunscreen!
i. the volunteerwork
There are several stations set up throughout the area for people to enlist themselves into various tasks, from repairs and construction to passing out water to thirsty workers. Just go talk to the people at the right table and they'll find a job for you. ImPorts are free to split their time between whichever projects appeal most to them, and the use of powers to assist is highly encouraged, but not required.
A few of the options available include, but are not limited to:
There's also a refreshments station with a few coolers containing bottled water and various kinds of juice and soda. Alcohol isn't provided in the volunteering portion of the event--don't want anyone falling off newly (re)built roofs, now! A local ice cream shop has offered a free scoop to anyone helping out, as well, which makes it a great spot to take a breather and beat the heat for a little while.
ii. the picnic
At the end of the day, everyone who lent a hand is invited to a catered picnic in the park in Heropa Square. The food includes hot dogs, sliced watermelon, several varieties of sandwiches and salads, and a delectable array of desserts. Beer and wine are available as well, though ID will be checked.
Aside from the food tables are a couple with informational brochures and flyers about HOPE itself, including contact information for Headmaster Callaghan.
The evening ends with an open air screening of a movie in the old-fashioned style, using a projector. Monsters Inc. is the flick on offer, and of course popcorn is provided.
Happy helping, Heropa.
iii. the powers seminar
At 6:30 PM, an optional powers seminar led by Kotetsu T. Kaburagi begins, open to all imPorts as well as any locals who retained their powers from the incident some months prior. The seminar will be held some distance from the picnic proper for safety purposes, and will essentially be an informal session of the power instruction offered at the school.

✪ Removing debris and cleaning up after any leftover mayhem, sweeping up broken glass and the like
✪ New construction projects for a homeless shelter and an affordable housing development for low-income families
✪ Passing out supplies to other volunteers, like bottled water, construction supplies, etc
✪ General security and event-wrangling, just in case anyone tries to start any trouble

[Cassian helps with repairs and construction, letting his peripheral consciousness observe the powers on display, keeping most of his focus and energy on the work.
It's very refreshing to do something… direct. Not as a small piece in a vast interstellar machine, having to have faith that his immediate (often dissatisfying or even… negative) actions are indeed contributing causally to a positive whole. But this isn't abstract or removed—not sacrificing the immediate for the historic or the individual for the collective. This… is… straightforward… and he can see the impact of his participation.
They build a house.
And not a shelter. Something made to last. Not just to survive in, but…
He doesn't let himself linger long, just finds the next thing to work on.
…Like he always does. Though not to escape confronting the reality, for a change. To expand on it.]
2. [closed to Kotetsu]
[After work is wrapped, he attends Kotetsu's seminar. Then finds Kotetsu afterward.]
Thank you for all this.
[A pause. Nothing so obvious as clearing his throat or shifting his weight. Cassian's as inscrutable as ever. But he does pause.]
I've been thinking about your suggestion. …Your offer.
I tried my assigned work and… I can't do it.
[Well, he could probably learn, but… no.]
I've contacted Callaghan.
comes back to this a literal month late orz
Ah man, sorry it didn't work out. But hey, we'll look forward to having you on board!
[Sure, he still needs to interview with Callaghan, but the guy doesn't seem to have any overt signs of being dangerous, and without someone like Emma Frost around anymore, their judgment of character is the best they have.]
Did you have a good time today?
Jacob Taylor | OTA
This space marine has telekinetic powers and excellent physical conditioning, and Jacob can be found putting both to good work in the repair project, mainly focusing on any lingering scars left by the 'historical invasion' at the end of March. Jacob has enough leadership experience by now to confidently take charge of anyone who needs extra guidance on how to take out a damaged wall or put in a new ceiling beam, and ends up with his own small, informal crew of fellow volunteers. All that work builds up a hefty appetite, and after the job is done Jacob makes a beeline for the picnic To put away an impressive number of hot dogs and salads, along with a few beers.
As the evening comes on, Jacob can be found dropping by the powers seminar to close out the day. It's not so much for his own benefit- by now, his powers are like a second skin to him- but he's there to observe and encourage anyone who's uncertain about their powers to check out what's on offer, whether they're imPorts or metahumans.

Nike is using her levitating powers to transport any heavy tools from one place to another along with newly constructed items like roofs, walls, or much needed beams to support the roof with. Every once in a while she would carry countless trays filled with refreshments for everyone to drink. Through all those experiences, she is learning that she can change the weight of one or two items to become weightless, but it becomes increasingly difficult to do so with items that were bigger than her or much heavier than expected.
Right now, she was carrying a large shipment of roof tiles and two heavy bags of cement underneath, her vision was completely blocked while she was having trouble moving from the weight as her legs were trembling, but she was forcing herself to continue to move as long as she doesn't lose her balance. Searching for whoever was willing to show her the way, she'll talk to the first person she senses near by.]
Excuse me, but...do you know who is in charge of the repairs for the roof and floors?
no subject
Nike? Here, let me take some of that-
[She's clearly carrying too much if she can't even see, and her legs look like they're about to give out. Jacob smoothly hoists one of the cement bags onto his shoulder, grunting a little from the strain on his muscles.]
I guess I'm in charge, at least for now. Do you need help dropping all this off?
no subject
Thanks! I could use some. First time being assign to transport stuff in this area. Since you're the current boss, it's up to you to decide on the best place to leave it at.
[She'll look around her surroundings for a bit. Something she couldn't do until now. Every area's progress has been going very well, she notes.]
An empty corner may be a good spot to drop the cement bags. The roof tiles may need to be set somewhere with easy access to the roof to collect. [Pause.] ...maybe?
no subject
Yeah. That's just what I was about to say. Looks like you know your stuff.
[He shifts the bag he's holding, and points at a corner on the far side of the room they're in.]
That'll do for the bags. Then we can get the tiles up to the second floor- we have a pile going by the stairs to the roof. Let me know if you want me to take some more weight- I can carry things without my hands.
[Thank you, biotics.]
no subject
Okay! Let's do that. Heading to the second floor, I mean.
[Now that she had only one thing to concentrate on, Nike can feel she had enough energy to continue to transport the roof tiles. The stars should be a piece of cake.]
Um, I may need to hold off on your offer for now. I'm sorta using this opportunity to figure out my newer powers. I want to find their limits today. [Which she has figure out a few limits.] But I'll let you know if I do need the help. I've been using this power for a while now. I don't know how long I'll be able to keep it up for.
[But she does feel curious over his own powers. Just the one he did make comments on.]
Do you use some kind of telepathy to carry stuff?
[All asking as she moves alongside him to the designated areas he mention a few moments ago.]
no subject
[Jacob chats casually about the mutations in his body and the cybernetic modification in his head as he climbs the stairs alongside Nike, bearing the bag of concrete like it doesn't weigh much. If anything, stuff like this is a chance for extra exercise to him.]
What about you? You've got weather powers, right?
no subject
[Advance word was very advance, but she figures he's talking about having technology inside of him. Like an enhancement. She couldn't help wonder if he was part machine now. Without realizing it, she may be staring at him a little too much, trying to catch any signs of it other than his super strength.]
Oh, yeah, that's right! I do. But those aren't exactly the powers I'm trying to improve. My weather control powers have always been a part of me. I'm trying to use one of the ones I was given in this world -- levitation.
[She'll rise the bag she was holding over her head, lifting it with one hand, and then handing it over to him with the same hand as thought a server was handing him his meal.]
Try to lift it while I'm holding onto it.
[Which he will notice almost right away the weightlessness to a bag that would make two people to carry.]
no subject
Hey. Yeah, that's handy all right. Are you lowering its mass? My biotics do the same thing when I use them.
no subject
[She'll concentrate a little more to demonstrate just enough for her feet to be hovering over the ground.]
I can't move though, not unless I have a gust of wind to help me move. I still haven't figure out the brakes for it yet. [Other than crash landing, but she won't be mentioning that.
Returning her feet to the ground, Nike will try to re-position her load, slowly realizing it was beginning to feel heavier now. Was she close to her limit? She'll try not to make too much of a fess over it.]
Your biotic decreases the weight of any object you carry? Does it have a limits? Like you can carry a certain amount at a time or is it limitless?
no subject
[Reaching their destination at the top of the stairs, Jacob sets his back of concrete down in the appointed position, smoothly and carefully. Then he rubs his shoulder, stretching out the muscle for a moment.]
My biotics work at range. I can float something for about fifteen seconds, and have some control over where it moves. But it definitely has limits- don't ask me to lift any vehicles.

Nike will be found doing a little bit of everything in the volunteerwork. Transporting heavy tools and machinary from one area to the next, painting walls as she uses her levitating to reach the areas that were too difficult to even with a ladder; doing more of the dangerous duties to keep from any other natives from having to do so, sweeping broken glass, organizing store displays, and much more. Whatever anyone needs, all they have to do was ask her and she'll do it without a second thought.
There will be moments in her free time that Nike will help lift most of the humidity by transforming it into cool vapor while cover the sun whenever she was outside enjoying her ice cream or working with the rest of the volunteers.
Once the work day was over, Nike can be found in the picnic, on top of a blanket of her own and under a tree, enjoying a meal that would feel a family of four. It was clear from all the treats given to her that it was gladly given to her by other natives as a way to show their gratitude. A fan or two brought her two bottles of wine to drink. Nike won't mind anyone sitting with her to enjoy her feast or the wine if they ask her politely enough.
Instead of heading to the powers seminar, she decided to enjoy the evening's movie about a secret world of monsters that scare children to continue living comfortable lives. Nike found it very interesting that she decided to call her friends to come and watch the movie with her on a comfortable blanket, under a tree, surrounded by popcorn and other treats.]
super late but as promised, iii! /o/
By the time she pulls herself out of her reverie, her dinner is cold, and it looks like most people have started to leave. The sudden remembrance of her lost friend hurts more than she thought it would, but this is no place to get upset. She can do that in private at home.
Slowly, she moves to get up, but she can't help but sniffle and rub at her eyes anyways.]
also ... late ...
Hey, what's wrong?
