I was looking at a Riverbed

WHO: imPorts!
WHERE: Maurtia Falls Memorial Library
WHEN: April 22nd, all day.
WHAT: Registration in motion at Maurtia Fall’s new and improved library. Come to see the grand unveiling and stay for the snow sculpting contest, fun costumes, or games. You might be encouraged to remain as quiet as possible in a library under normal circumstances, but just today, you can feel free to be as loud as you want!
WARNINGS: None anticipated. Let me know if that should be changed!

Although it’s April, Maurtia Falls is covered in a blanket of glistening snow. And whether the arrival of all these Westerosi folk is to blame for the prolonged winter or that pesky groundhog who saw his shadow, it seems as though spring will not rear its head today at least. But have no fears! A path has been shoveled and the large stone steps leading up to an even larger building are cleared, greatly diminishing the risk of slips (and lawsuits.) Welcome to the newly constructed Maurtia Falls Memorial Library!

Invited guests have been encouraged to come in costume -- dressed as either their favorite literary hero/character or author. And although imPorts are not necessarily book characters, they will find several mini-me versions of themselves running around from children who just wanted to use the day to dress up like their favorite imPort. Is that a tiny Rincewind with a lunchbox luggage? Look at that crazy cotton ball hair on that mini Doc Brown! And that little know-it-all girl is definitely playing a very convincing Kitty Jones!

The day begins with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, which might fill imPorts who know Ambassador Baelish with dread because it means he’s going to give a speech. But it’s surprisingly short and concise, thanking everyone for attending, expressing excitement over what the library means for the city, and stating that this project is the result of everyone’s kind efforts and that it will be immortalized as a true testament of the things they can accomplish as a collective. However, simply because Ambassador Baelish isn’t as long-winded as usual does not mean the others who have been invited to speak will not be. Among such honored guests are Senator Mitchell Hundred and Count Dooku.

But once the ribbon is cut, the large doors are opened to reveal the common area of the library. And if you thought the main room contained all the books the library had to offer, surprise! There are at least three more side rooms that contain everything from comics to classic literature. ImPorts may notice many names fancily engraved into the stone pillars and archways. A little plaque hanging at the entrance indicates that these are the names of natives who have lost their lives in the city of Maurtia Falls and how you can honor the fallen by donating to the families at the front desk. Near that plaque and on display for the event are several signed copies of The Methodical Walter White by Doctor Frederick Chilton (available for purchase), The Luminescent Moon Trilogy which is a series from The City and was loaned generously by Kanaya Maryam (protected by magic seals to prevent theft), and in honor of the recently departed Dorian Gray -- The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde is accompanied by a framed picture of the actual Dorian Gray along with a pretentious inscription that says: Forever immortalized and never forgotten.

But books aren’t the only form of entertainment at this Swear In! In the Tony Stark Information/Technology Wing, imPorts are invited to try out a demo of the newest mmorpg ION (ImPorts Opposing Nations) -- a game where you can customize and create your own imPort character, give them a power/costume from a small list, and from there, choose to live heroically or villainously within the world’s setting of a highly corrupt set of nations. As you level up, you get the chance to unlock new powers and abilities or enhance the set you currently have. However, there are still many glitches to be ironed out, so don’t be surprised if your character turns the corner and comes out with the face of Komasan! Or if you encounter something even more unsettling.

If video games aren’t your thing, perhaps you’ll be more interested in heading to one of the classrooms for a featured game of Magic and Mayhem (an RPG table top game that hit the majority report back in February). Or maybe you’re feeling less adventurous and more generous. If so, there are many different money raising events going on with all proceeds donated to those many families who lost loved ones in this city. Feeling photogenic? You can donate your time to take pictures with children and fans at one of the many stations with silly backdrops. It only costs five dollars per picture to allow professional photographers to capture all your best sides and give away a happy memory to a fan. Feeling vindictive? A panel has been set up with popular fanfiction writers from across the country. For only about five dollars per fic, this team of writers will make magic happen and write up any pairing you so choose in any situation -- from as benign to as salacious as you want! (The more lewd it gets, the extra the cost.) None of these writers are profiting personally from this, of course! Oh no, no. It’s all for fun and charity. No lawsuits allowed! But that one writer cosplaying Jeff Winger will tell you it’s the premise of her next big fic, where all the male imPorts enlist Mr. Winger to help them win a huge lawsuit, and as a payment Jeff demands that they [CENSORED].

But perhaps you’re feeling hungry instead? Lunch is served all day in buffet style. Catered by many of the most expensive eateries in Maurtia Falls, you can find piping hot food to all tastes -- whether it’s sweet and spicy wings from Wingin’ It to a bouillabaisse from Francey Meeting You Here. Lettuce Help has also donated a wide variety of fresh salads if none of the warm food meets your dietary requirements. And if you’re just looking for a hot drink on this cold day, the staff at Brewed Awakening is prepared to make you anything from cappuccino to cocoa. All of this is free of charge, but each of the companies have a tip jar out if you really like what you taste.

If you’re feeling competitive and don’t mind the cold, the largest event of the day is taking place outside. It’s a snow-sculpting competition! Participants are invited to make as large and elaborate of snow sculptures as possible. The grand prize winner will receive $1000 and get their sculpture made into an actual statue outside of the library. This will be handpicked by Petyr Baelish himself, so anyone incorporating mockingbirds will have a clear advantage! Of course, everyone’s a winner here, and there will be several small trophies and prizes handed out to anyone who participates. Do bear in mind you have some steep native competition. One sculptor in particular is making a very convincing (and anatomically correct) homage to recent newlyweds Hermann Gottlieb and Newton Geiszler.

And if none of the offered events catch your interest, no one is stopping you from enjoying what is probably the last snowfall of the season. Have snowball fights, make snow angels, be that jerk who puts snow down your friend’s back. The only limit to your fun is your own imagination! That and some of the killjoy imPorts who are attending the event as well. But hey. That’s not on Ambassador Baelish!

Don't really do too much sculpting outside of winter stuff, honestly; I'm more into the paper shit.

[both drawing in all its iterations and origami these days, which gives her the leeway to be so general about it. it's always struck her as kind of funny how Josuke had managed to predict her tastes so well when giving that gift of her first origami paper, even before they'd grown truly close.

thankfully (possibly) for Mai, her comment fails to coerce any sort of negative reaction from Hazel. instead she just laughs a little, clearly amused.]

Fuck, I'd hope so, or else I'm really out of damn practice.

[she shakes her head slightly, trying to jostle her hood up a few inches without actually having to reach up and tug on it.]

You really wanna feel like dropping dead, come down to Heropa sometime. Somebody conned the government into letting me do a fucking mural there.

[and boy, that thing is wild.]

Paper and sculpture are really the only two available art forms out where I'm from, so I can understand that. What other kinds of art are there anyways? [ let her know so she can hate it for how colorful it is!!!!!

Mai readily accepts the invitation though. Like, Azula's definition of a weird but enjoyable place involved wall sludge juice, or anywhere with the Avatar in peril so she leaps at the chance to finally go to some place that's her kind of weird. ]

I don't have anything better to do. Sounds like a plan. [ But wait... she doesn't know anything really about Heropa. ] Is Heropa different? Also, would you like a knife to help you with the carving?

Engraving, ceramics, photography...basically any garbage you can slap a fucking pretentious title on you can pretty much pass off as art.

[Hazel obviously has a very high opinion about the art community as a whole. perhaps it's for the best that her habit of venting all the feelings she doesn't want to address through art has kept her from participating in a more professional vein.

maybe. or maybe it's just a pity because that would be hilarious.]

I'll totally take the knife though, this fucker's ribs need way more definition.

[it's not as foreboding if you can't pick out all the skeletal details!!!]

Heropa's, like, ninety fucking degrees and sweaty half the time right about now. But they really like giving free shit out to imPorts, so, you know. You probably won't bite it if you visit.

[temperature has ceased meaning anything to her, but she still checks the weather to make sure she's not stealing clothes from a certain someone that he'll actually need for the day. it's very thoughtful.]

Hmph. We have ceramics and engraving but not photography. [ Mai quickly knew what photography was by the end of the day. Seeing vivid photographs was certainly one of the initial shocks to her arriving. Seeing her own photograph in a file was weird.

Mai hands her a knife. ]
If you need arrows, or any other small throwable blade for carving let me know. One of the free things I got for being an imPort was that cool talent. [ Now she doesn't have to pick up her knives all the time!!! ]

Ugh. That sounds like it's unpleasantly hot. [ But anything is unpleasant to Mai. ] Guess I'll have to get some warmer clothes.

I could always use shit like that, but nnnot for carving.

[she chuckles as she takes the blade with a thankful nod, but there's really not much about the statement that's a joke. Hazel can't help but try and collect dangerous artifacts - although whether it's to frighten people or simply because she knows what a bad idea it is to give things like that to someone like her remains to be seen.

regardless, the loaner knife is immediately put to good use. Hazel leans in close to begin adding more definition and detail to the bones of death, even as her responses grow more distracted because of it.]

Honestly you could show up fucking naked and it'd still be too damn hot. It's just that kind of place, I guess, especially now that we're crawling towards summer.

As long as it doesn't get me in trouble, I don't really care what you do with it. [ Although if Mai has to intervene because Hazel used her weapons to commit a crime... she won't be mad but she'll just be extremely exasperated!!! ]

That's disgusting. [ And, just now a kind of scary thought crosses Mai's mind. She realizes she might just be unable to summon weapons from her sleeves if she doesn't have any. This severely limits Mai's fashion choices in the sun. She wonders about the parameters of her powers ]

So, if my power is to generate weapons through my sleeves, do you think I'd still need them in Florida?

Give it a month or two here, then you'll really know what disgusting looks like.

[she chuckles to herself, then pauses in her work to cock her head thoughtfully for a moment or two at the question. the end result is a noncommittal shrug and return to etching in some details on the ribcage.]

Probably depends on how specific the fucking file was.

[whether it had to be Mai's sleeves specifically, whether it had to be clothing sleeves...there was a lot of wiggle room there.]
darted: (MY BITCHES BAD N BOUJEE)

[personal profile] darted 2017-05-01 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
You can't just say that without providing a little details! [ Hazel will have earned a smile from Mai! So she should cherish that reaction while she can because it's not very common. Mai starts to turn her attention back to flaying the packed ice off of her little horror marsupial sheep. ]

Tch. I don't really wanna go back to read the file.
deadtective: (sixty-two.)

[personal profile] deadtective 2017-05-03 08:16 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, come on. If you're not gonna even read shit about yourself how am I supposed to believe you'd pay attention through an entire story?

[wow, would you look at that. usually Hazel caused abject screams of frustration in the people she spoke with, but statistically an actual expression of pleasure was bound to happen.

it's also pretty apparent, even with her face practically close enough to the ice to freeze to it as she works some intricate details, that she's not actually going to withhold the story. it just feels a little better for both storyteller and audience when there's peak drama.]

Because I can listen and sculpt at the same time. But I can't really read and make an intricate design! [ Her tone is a little defensive and rushed, but she can hang! She doesn't get aggressive or hostile. ]

I can look at something else, but I can't turn my ears off.

I dunno, sounds like excuses to me. [but she's just giving her a hard time for the fun of it, and after a pause to get an angle just right:] You ever seen a shark crash through a bus?
darted: (LETS GO FAR AF W OUR TVY7 RATING)

[personal profile] darted 2017-05-05 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
We don't have just sharks in our world. We have tiger sharks, sand sharks and shark squids but not sharks. I also learned what a bus was today, so I haven't seen anything resembling a sharking crashing through a bus. [ She continues to carve and possibly bring down Hazel's opinion on her. ]
deadtective: (fifty-nine.)

[personal profile] deadtective 2017-05-06 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
That's too bad, because a while back we had a shitload of that happening when a fucking tornado dropped an entire ocean's worth of sharks in Heropa.

[it was amazing. she got so many hits off the videos she recorded of it.]
darted: (somehow this blade can get things done)

[personal profile] darted 2017-05-08 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
What?! I missed that?! How could I!? That would've been awesome! [ Her tone is surprisingly resonant. She sounds the most joyed out of any part of the conversation so far. But, it's still slightly muted. ]
deadtective: (sixty-three.)

[personal profile] deadtective 2017-05-08 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Sure fucking was. They were crashing through store windows and everything.

[Hazel is just conveniently leaving out the fact that she and a then-friend ended up stealing a bus to drive a lot of the sharks back to the ocean. it's not particularly cool to admit to being tenderhearted.]

You know, I'm pretty sure I've still got some pictures in my phone. Maybe if you ask nicely I'll try and dig 'em up.
