another intro, yeeeeah
WHO: Kristoff Bjorgman and OPEN
WHERE: Outside of Residence #005
WHEN: Thursday, February 13th
WHAT: Kristoff's unsure about going into this house. In fact, he is massively put-off by this entire thing. Hello housemates, neighbors, and any other passers-by.
WARNINGS: nah man.
When Kristoff had turned away from the massive doors of Arendelle's castle, he'd heard Sven snort and whine in protest behind him. He'd ignored it in favor of walking determinedly away from the whole situation, and now... Now he was here, and Sven wasn't. He'd been suddenly surrounded by utterly unfamiliar spaces and people, and he must've asked fifteen times about his reindeer. Maybe the idea was that, if he knew that one thing, had something familiar, this would somehow make a lot more sense.
But he still didn't know where Sven was, and this still didn't make any sense. He'd been deposited in front of a house, odd in construction, and wasn't exactly sure about going in. They said he could, that he was supposed to live there, but it was still an uncomfortable action to take. It wasn't his house, and nobody had invited him so much as they'd shoved him at it, and... This whole thing was just too much! Everything here was boxy and paved-over, the street so open and the land so flat, the people too pushy.
He'd been too overwhelmed to be able to hold on to anything very valuable about this, if there was anything. Outside of the house, with nowhere else to go, he rubbed a hand over his face and sat down heavily on the front lawn. The things that they'd given him were set down next to him, along with his mittens, and he began to wait.
He wasn't sure what he was waiting on, but something had to make sense eventually, right?

"I mean, it's... Well. I really just don't know anybody, that's all. I mean, I guess I know maybe... I dunno'. One or two people? And it's better for her-- for them?-- Uh. They should be back in Arendelle." And then, to try and smooth over that weak attempt at an explanation, he added, more firmly, "But I really wouldn't mind having Sven back."
no subject
"Arendelle, huh? Never heard of it." She didn't sound too surprised. "Who's Sven?"
no subject
And, yeah. All of that added up to terrible backpedaling, because it just reminded him that Sven might actually be in trouble without him. If he was still in Arendelle, he'd just... He'd just go back to the Valley, right? He was smart enough to figure that out. If he was here, really being kept by these strangers... What? He didn't know, couldn't confirm anything, and the worry showed on his face in spite of the fact that he'd been trying to dismiss his attachment to his dumb reindeer.
"Oh, man."
no subject
"Did he come with you? Or did the soldiers take him somewhere?"
no subject
"He... This place is so confusing. I got, um, almost dizzy? I mean, everything made my head spin. I thought maybe I missed him, but it might just be that Sven's always there, and... I don't know. Would they take him?"
no subject
"Kristoff, I don't... think he's here?"
no subject
Probably not, he figured, but... Yeah. Sven knew his way back to the family, and there was still vegetation to be had there. It would be fine. Sven would be okay until Kristoff could get back to the mountain, and then they could try to figure out what to do with themselves, seeing as they were suddenly out of business. They could get back on their feet again, he was sure, but it was going to take some scraping and lots of hard work, and that wasn't factoring the winter in.
"That's fine," Kristoff said, more for himself and his own train of thought than for the conversation's sake. Another beat, and he seemed to come back from inner distraction, looking around the room in casual appraisal. "This is a big house."

It was a good thing to keep in mind, even if it was also kind of sad. He'd never felt particularly attached to the kingdom, even if he was technically within its borders a good deal of the time. Considering himself a separate entity had never been something that bothered him, but now... Now he felt worse about it, but it was necessary. He was just the same as he'd always been, and coming to care for the kingdom's princess wasn't going to change the fact that he didn't belong there.
He frowned deeper and amended, "Or, um. From further north, if you wanna get technical. I don't really have a hometown, so to speak, just..."

However, the name didn't ring any bells with Karen. She shook her head to indicate that, finally placing her attention on the leftover Thai food she's allowed to sit too close to the cat. She lifted the box, peering into it and sighed upon seeing some strands of fur clinging to the food.
"I gotcha." Her head lifted, eyes focused on Kristoff again. "I can't help you out in getting back home or your deer, but since this is your assigned house, you can take one of the empty rooms. Help yourself to whatever is in the fridge. Drink lots of water while you're here."

He was conflicted about that conclusion, because it offered both discomforting and comforting information. He seemingly wasn't sure which bit to latch onto. He couldn't go home, and that was that. He couldn't get Sven back, and that was that. He could, however, apparently stay here, stay hydrated, and help himself to... Whatever was in the fridge, which is the item on the list that lost him.
"Thank you?" He gave his best attempt at a conclusion, but it came out worried and half-hearted. He took a deep breath and tried again. "No, I mean... Really. This is really weird, and I just don't know how to do this, and-- But it's nice. You seem really nice, so thanks. I'll just-- I mean, what choice do I have? I guess I'm just here for now."
Geez.

"I know. I'm sorry, Kristoff," she sighed. "You should take it easy. You might also be worked up from being outside too long. We've got something to keep the house cool, so try not to leave any doors or windows open." She added and paused, trying to figure out what she should do next. "Also... if you see a guy with a hood over his face around the home, don't panic. He's... one of our roommates."
There was a hint of contempt in her tone.
no subject
"Okay..? I'll keep that in mind," he answered, looking around as he he might suddenly catch sight of this individual. A guy with a hood, huh? Somebody apparently unlikable, if he was reading Karen's tone well enough. "Anything else?"
Because he might as well be as braced as possible.

She could go on for an hour or two, probably, trying to explain the things in the home, the people, what he could and couldn't do, what to expect for this sort of weather. She was willing to help, but she didn't have the patience to go through a list.
If he needed the help, hopefully he would ask.

Easy enough, right? After another pause in which he tried to collect his thoughts, apparently required even if it all sounded easy enough, he moved to begin gathering his things. There was his vest, his sash, his mittens, the file, the little machine... He fumbled a little bit in finishing the glass of water while trying to get everything together, but he was set soon enough. He turned around, looking for the right path or the right doors.
"Right. I'll just... Uh." He'd just wander off, then, and take one of the open rooms like she'd said. Then he could... Well, he didn't know what he could do after that! He could drink more water? He could go to sleep, and maybe this whole thing would somehow wash away while he was out. Something like that. Oh, and-- "Thanks."

And then she remembered.
"You okay with cats?" she asked slowly, almost suspiciously. As if on cue, her cat looked up at her in the middle of his grooming, then looked at Kristoff questioningly, leg still in the air. "Because he's not going anywhere."
no subject
To which the cat took offense, putting his leg down and turning his nose up. Kristoff muttered a good-natured apology before returning his attention to Karen, again feeling a little sheepish for the aside with an animal. "I don't think it's a problem. He seems alright."
The cat scoffed at that, as close as cats can scoff, and Kristoff added, "He's, uh. Really communicative?"
no subject
"Good," she smiled, pleased as punch. "Then we won't have a problem."
Kristoff seemed nice enough. She didn't want to butt heads with him unless she had to.
"Is he?" Karen looked back at the cat, who began to walk away, down the hall to where her room was. "There's also a dog, but you don't have to worry about him either."
