come morning light
WHO: Breeze & sciencemoms
WHERE: De Chima
WHEN: Feb 12
WHAT: post-kidnapping reunion
WARNINGS: n/a
[ She doesn't have her stuff, her communicator or her house key or even her freakin' skateboard, but she's not stressing (much). She's more annoyed than anything, since she has to make her way down to De Chima from Maurtia Falls, all on the same ratty sneakers she got picked up wearing in the first place. After two weeks, they're hardly shoes at all anymore, just pieces of fabric and rubber kinda sorta held together with glue.
By the time she uses the Porter to get to De Chima, then crosses the city and makes her way to the house, she's yawning and hungry and scowling. She finds the hide-a-key under a rock in the backyard and lets herself into the kitchen, kicking her gross shoes off and leaving them in the middle of the kitchen floor as she zips over to the fridge. There's like an entire half gallon of milk in there, and she uncaps it and drinks right from the bottle. Once most of the milk is gone, she sticks it back in the fridge and finally raises her head. ]

Hellooo?

Her eyes are saucer-wide, lined with two weeks of shadows, but finally the first glimmer of hope flares up. She's across the kitchen in seconds, socked feet kicking the broken shards of ceramic aside, and her arms wrap desperately around Breeze.]
You're safe, you're okay!
no subject
Hi. Sorry it took so long.
no subject
[She presses her face into Breeze's hair, panic still tensing her muscles.]
What happened, sweetheart?

[Clara pulls back sharply, her eyes wide. She had suspected kidnapping, of course, but to hear it just gives her stomach a sick twist. Her gaze finally flicks over Breeze, searching for any injuries.]
Did they hurt you?
no subject
[ She shrugs her shoulders. ] I got out as soon as I could.
no subject
We looked everywhere. We called the police, and they wouldn't even listen because you're an imPort. [She gasps in a deep breath, and pulls Brianna close to her again.] Don't you ever get kidnapped again, do you hear me?
no subject
I'm not planning on it.
no subject
I know, it's alright, I'm not upset with you. I'm not angry.
[She remembers being a child, and mistaking her mother's concern for fury. It makes her heart clench; she tries to soften her voice, and swallow back the residual fear.]
Neither of us are. I just wish we could have stopped it.
no subject
[ She doesn't really comprehend just how shitty the past couple weeks were for the sciencemoms. But she's 100% confident that if her mom and stepfather had to call the cops because of something she did, or was involved in, they'd be pissed. Probably reform school pissed, since they'd already done boarding school. ]
no subject
I love you, Brianna. I'm just relieved that you're okay.
no subject
Okay.
no subject
Alright, what do you want first - food or shower?
no subject
[ Were you really expecting her to say shower, Clara? Were you? ]
no subject
Well, we've got chicken nuggets and yoghurt, so you're in for a feast.
for sophie
hey r u home?
[ By the time she sends the text and hears the little chime signifying a successful delivery, she's already three quarters of the way to Sophie's house, so she adds: ] i'm outside your house.

A good part of it involves Breeze, curiously enough. She's been so focused on just surviving that the other girl's company being a constant hadn't really meant much to her until now that she's finally slowing down a bit, but by the time Sophie started putting her ducks in a row she found out that Breeze was gone. Exactly gone how she didn't know, but it felt like she had missed an opportunity.
Hearing that she's back though, Sophie feels like she needs to do something about it. What exactly remains beyond her, but having a bit of initiative might do well for both.
Rather than replying, Sophie seemingly materializes from a sudden surge of light motes behind Breeze. ]
Hey.
[ Surprise! ]
no subject
Hey! Long time no see, right?
no subject
[ She's just gonna do it, frick everything.
Sophie moves in for a hug. She's slow and deliberate because she wants to give Breeze the chance to step out of it, never mind Breeze can move faster than Sophie can think, most likely.
Still, hug. A big, totally intimate hug. Y/N? ]
no subject
I missed you too. Sorry I didn't call or whatever. My communicator was... I left it somewhere and I couldn't get to it.
no subject
She pulls back a bit, but her hands remain on Breeze's shoulders. ]
It's okay, I've been out of it as of late. It's just that... I've been thinking, you know? How I've come to care about some people here. Not a whole lot, but some. And... I care about you. Like, a lot.
[ Despite how embarrassed she feels, Sophie manages to smile. ]
This is probably super lame of me, but I wanted you to know.
no subject
It's not lame. You're the coolest. And I like you too. [ Oh crap wait. ] I mean I care about you too. [ Nailed it. ]
no subject
Breeze's words make her twitch involuntarily, hands going up to join the rest of herself in a very expressive shrug. ]
I mean, I do like you. I'm not sure I have the words to describe it, you know. When you're around I... I feel good. Like, the sort of good that makes you feel tingly when you think about it later.
[ She can't take her words back once they're out. Now all there is to it is to suck it up and see how she ruins yet another good thing in her life. ]
I must sound like some sort of weirdo right now.
no subject
[ She sucks at this. She sucks at talking about feelings, and she sucks at knowing the right thing to say in a conversation like this. She shakes her head, so rapid it looks like a blur, and tries to laugh it off. ]
Never mind, forget it.
no subject
[ Without thinking, Sophie's arms move to embrace herself. She doesn't know, but she knows. In a way, it makes it worse, because she feels like she's standing at the edge of something very important, but also terrifying. Sophie's life has lead her to think the worst of situations like this where she mostly depends on what other people might think or feeling about her. She has been proven wrong more recently with her newly found friends, but still, that's just been a life of a lifetime of disappointments. ]
I don't know... I don't know if I deserve anything else? If you would hate me for wanting...more...
[ Sophie looks down, unable to meet Breeze's gaze. How could she? She's basically ruining everything right there, just because she can't be satisfied with being just friends. She'll just have to bear the blunt of the hit now and learn from it. ]
no subject
For a second, she just stands there, not sure what she's going to do. The Breeze of one year ago would've run away and avoided Sophie for months and never mentioned this to anybody. Like she'd done with Dekka back in the FAYZ. Except that hadn't worked, because all running away did was make everything worse. "Maybe in a couple years," she'd said to Dekka. Except she hadn't had a couple years to figure things out then, and she probably doesn't have a couple years in this world, either.
Time to quit being indecisive and figure things out. Like, now.
She leans forward in what feels like slow motion, hyper aware of the dumb way she isn't moving her feet, and the fabric of Sophie's shirt as she puts a hand on her shoulder, and finally the kind of clumsy way she presses her mouth to Sophie's, the way she half misses and ends up kissing the corner of her mouth.
Oh. Kay. She's kissing a girl. Lightning doesn't strike her down. Nothing explodes. Nothing happens at all, except her heart suddenly racing like she's been running as fast as she can, and even that's not bad. She likes running. She likes the way her heart beats faster. So she guesses she must like this, too. ]
no subject
Instead Breeze moves, she leans in, lips parted, eyes foggy, but full of intent. Sophie knows what's going on well before it happens. She's never kissed anyone, never dreamed anyone would ever kiss her too. For a fraction of a second she wonders if this is what she wants, but then Breeze is close enough to not just see her, but also smell her, feel her and Sophie knows that in a way she had been thinking about the girl's lips for a while now.
It's kind of a terrible kiss, but it's also the best kiss ever. It's a very Breeze kiss, Sophie half thinks as her eyes close automatically, the sigh that leaves her lips half covered by the other girl's. Then she leans, too, correcting Breeze's face with a hand that gingerly rests on her jaw so that their lips lock.
It's a soft kiss, but also a strong one. Sophie leans in further, slowly, breathing in the moment, the redness of her face replaced by a lightheadedness that spreads all over her.
Finally, after what feels like an eternity, their lips part, if barely. Sophie has somehow moved her free hand along Breeze's waist, tugging her closer, yet her hold is loose enough, just a ghost of an embrace. She blinks several times, half expecting to see the girl go up in smoke or to wake up, but nothing of the sort happens. ]
Whoa.
[ Yeah, pretty much. ]
no subject
[ Which... okay, was not what she meant to say, after all that. She feels her face flush again, but Sophie has a hand on her waist, and she refuses to let herself step away. ]
Do you want to do it again?
no subject
You- You can kiss me anytime you want.
[ And as if to drive the point home, Sophie is the one that leans first this time, perhaps to make sure Breeze aims better this time. ]
no subject
When she breaks the kiss, she grins. ]
Cool.
no subject
Sophie isn't entirely sure when it over again, but once she hears Breeze she grins back, leaning further in to rest her face on the small of Breeze's neck, still red and hot and incredibly embarrassed. ]
Cool's an overstatement, I think.
no subject
I thought it was good.
no subject
What, no! I didn't mean it like that. It wasn't cool. [ Sophie squishes Breeze's cheeks with her hands, softly. ]
It was amazing. Totally, undeniably amazing. I'm terrible at humor, sorry.
no subject
[ She winks. Or attempts winking. It's hard to do when Sophie is squishing her cheeks, but she doesn't mind. ]
So.
no subject
So.
no subject
So when she hears the very familiar voice in the kitchen, she springs to her feet, making the trip to the kitchen in record time. She takes one look at Brianna and wraps her into a tight hug.]
Hello, yourself.
no subject
Hey.
no subject
Where were you? We were so worried, Bri. You can't just disappear on us like that again.
no subject
[ Her skateboard has got to be long gone, but at least she's pretty sure her communicator is safe in her bedroom somewhere. ]
no subject
Hey, hey, I know that. I'm not blaming you, okay? It's not your fault.
no subject
[ She sighs and scuffs one of her sneakers against the kitchen floor. ]
At least it's over now. Did I miss anything cool while I was gone?
no subject
Nah, not really. More blackout. But it turns out, we don't get up to anything that cool when you're not around.
no subject
[ She follows Cosima's gaze, looking for something good to eat. Jeez, there's hardly anything. What would Clara and Cosima do without her, seriously? ]
no subject
[Starve, apparently. Cosima's already digging her phone out of her pocket, scrolling through her contacts.]
Thai, pizza, or sushi?
[Honestly, if Brianna said all of the above Cosima would easily agree.]
