[OPEN; with one closed prompt]
WHO: Laurel Lance and YOU
WHERE: Heropa, Nonah
WHEN: January 24th - January 31st
WHAT: Coffee, books, non-alcoholic drinks
WARNINGS: None at present
[Closed to Leonard Snart]
Laurel wanted to catch up with Leonard before now, but recent events had made it damn near impossible. She had contacted him earlier in the week about meeting up and to her delight, he was free today. There was a local bar in Heropa that Laurel had gone to a few times - kinda upscale, but not too pretentious. They made excellent mocktails. That was enough for her.
She's sitting at a comfortable booth in the corner, occasionally sipping from a virgin appletini. Laurel doesn't know what Leonard wanted to drink, but she was going to get the first round anyway. The venue wasn't too packed night given that it was a Thursday and not the weekend; soft music played in the background, adding to the overall atmosphere.
As she waited for him to arrive, she thought about how long she would stay out for. Probably late because she wasn’t working the next morning. It all depended on when last orders were called.
[Nonah Public Library: Open]
This place was perfect for reading up on the laws of this world and how it may or may not correlate with any of the laws back home. Laurel still had plans to be a consultant for people seeking legal advice or even representing them if it came down to it. Fighting for justice was in her blood. She lived and breathed it; even at night when she became the Black Canary.
Laurel takes her time when she browses through the shelves, selecting a few titles that may be of use to her. The books were heavy, some of them probably decades old. It reminds her of the many hours she spent in the law library, the late nights and the coffee.
She eventually finds herself at a table with the books spread in front of her. Laurel reaches into her backpack and takes out a reporter pad to make detailed notes on. It already has a few pages filled with ideas (and doodles), things that outline her future plans.
If Laurel was going to be here indefinitely she was going to make the most of it.
[Lucky Cat Cafe: Open]
This cafe was one of the best places to get coffee in Laurel's opinion. She's glad that it happened to be in the city she lived in, a short distance away from her apartment. Sure Laurel could always make herself a cup at home, but there was something about going to one of your favourite places where they know what you like.
She has a reporter pad with her and a caramel latte - both of which were set out on the table. The coffee is half-drunk, but the pad is empty; Laurel was a little fresh out of ideas at the moment. Maybe the caffeine would kick in soon and spark something within her.
Even if it looked like she was busy, Laurel was open for conversation with others, with people she knew and people that she didn't.

"Do you mind if I sit?" Wanda asked in a friendly tone with a small smile on her lips.

Closing over the pad, Laurel took a sip from her coffee before giving Wanda her full attention.
"I'm Laurel by the way. Laurel Lance. I don't think I have seen you in this place before, and I am a frequent visitor."
no subject
"I don't actually come here that often, so I'd be easy to miss here. I guess that makes you the person to ask what the best stuff on the menu is." She said that last part with a small smirk.
no subject
She laughed a little after Wanda smirked, finding no fault with what she said. "Now I shouldn't really brag, but yeah, I am a bit of an expert on what is good here."
no subject
What? She's not wrong there.
"Which I am always all-ears for. Even being here close to a year, I am mostly ignorant of this place's variety."
no subject
Maybe she was just a homebody- or an away from home homebody in this case.
"It's something I can work on, and I guess you could work on it too. Not right now though. We should take it easy."

library!
So here he is, hoping there's like a Dummy's Guide to CPS & How to Help your Students When They Need It. Or some kind of basic dictionary for the legalese that keeps him stopping and starting every other sentence while trying to muscle his way through.
The fact that there's someone else already there looking like she actually knows what she's doing is a stroke of luck he frankly can't quite believe he actually came by. "Hey," his voice is low and raspy and he tries really hard to look like he's not about to hit on her, because who interrupts women just trying to find a book in the library if they're not a huge asshole, but how to avoid that look exactly?? He briefly considers leaning against a shelf but decides aggressively against it, that would definitely make it seem like he's trying to holla, god this is why he never bothers with human interaction, "are you a lawyer? Or, uh. Student?"
yes :D
"Lawyer. Well, hopefully. I practice back home; I'd love to set up something here, but first I need to find out everything I can about how the law works in this place." Laurel pauses, not wanting to overwhelm him with too much detail.
"Do you need help with something? I don't work in the library, but I have a good idea about the different sections; unless your question is related to the law. I can do my best to answer it."
It would tie into Laurel's goals to offer legal advice to people here, imPorts and non-imPorts like. The last time that she had done something like it was a couple of years ago when Laurel worked for the CNRI in Star City. Being the Assistant District Attorney hadn’t allowed much time for things like that.
C: i love laurel i couldn't resist
"Yeah, I—" Robbie pauses. This might actually require some backstory, if his request is going to make any sense. He holds out the book he'd brought with him, the one he already owns (Children and The Law: Doctrine, Policy and Practice 5th Edition), in her general direction. "I got a job assignment when I showed up. High school counselor." He's only just started to let go of resenting it. Seemed like a pointed jab at first, considering he dropped out in the 11th grade and never looked back. But after a couple weeks on the job... well, it's not the worst thing he's ever done for a steady paycheck. "I figured I better learn about what their version of CPS is like, right?"
It had been one of his High School Counselors who helped walk him through the process of getting himself and his little brother emancipated from the foster care system, so he feels like he at least needs to know enough to do the same for someone else here. Or how to get them into it, if it'd be better than what they've got now. He hasn't had to do either yet, but really he doesn't want to leave some kid in the lurch if it comes down to it. This place isn't just transitory for them.
"But trying to read this, I mean, it feels like a stretch to call it English." If Laurel has a Law Book decoder ring that would be great!! If not... "How do you start with this stuff?"
i love robbie too :>
"I totally get that. Some books can be a little overwhelming at first because of the sheer amount of information. I think you just need to break it down into more uh, bitesize pieces." She hopes that her metaphor(?) landed correctly, but he'd probably understand what she was trying to get at with her words.
Laurel gestures to the empty chair next to her. "Why don't you pull up a seat and I'll help you through it? Highlight any areas that are relevant. I've got time to spare." Plus, it would give Laurel a break from her own research for a little bit.
"I'm Laurel by the way, Laurel Lance. And you?"
♥!!
"Robbie Reyes," he returns once he's settled, and look at that, they've both got alliteration names! But he gives her a curious look, since he hadn't asked before. "You think you're going to be here long enough to open up a practice?" He's gotten so many mixed stories on how long people stay. Anything ranging from less than a month to a few years so far. Still, seems like a lot of effort to have it maybe not pay off in the end, to open up your own law... thing.

"Nice to meet you, Robbie." Laurel says with a warm smile. "And yeah, I think I might be. There hasn't been a sign of a way back home and I feel I need to use what skills I have to hopefully benefit other people." Which extended to vigilantism on occasion.
A casual shrug. "It's in my nature."
no subject
He considers that anyway. He's heard of people who have been here for years, and people who go home after a few months. He imagines he might start to go nuts if he can't work on cars for the next few years...
So maybe it's not so strange after all.
He reaches for the cover to the book, peeling it open to where he'd tried to highlight and take some notes, but honestly, it's only for a page or three. He had sorta completely hated school, and he'd dropped out when he'd found that what he'd liked doing didn't really require it anyway. "How long have you been here so far?"
Sorry for delay. Been at a convention with limited internet
Laurel trails off, glancing down at the book as a way of distracting herself. She didn't want to offload her feelings about missing home to someone she had just met; Robbie did not need that from her. He was here for something else. That should be Laurel’s focus.
“So, uh, I see you've highlighted a few pages. That's a start.” A smile as she brushes back some hair from her face. “I always tended to use study cards for notes but some paper will have to do instead.”

"A lot classier than the usual joints I frequent."

"What'll you have? I'm getting the first round."

"Me? Working towards putting together a legal clinic for people here. It might end up just being one to one advice, rather than having a whole team of staff."
God only knows when it will happen.
"And you? What have you been up to?"

She smiles before taking a sip from her drink.
