WHO: Sasaneki and Naminé
WHERE: Heropa #033
WHEN: Late January (post black-out)
WHAT: Cooking class
WARNINGS: None
[ Shopping for the right ingredients doesn't take long, neither it is finding them. However, Kaneki finds himself taking a bit longer to gather everything due to his own awkwardness. Naminé asked him for help baking cookies, and he will gladly do it, but he realizes that she will probably notice that he won't be tasting anything at all; perhaps he is just overthinking this, but still - the girl doesn't know what Kaneki is and it would be bit awkward telling her now. But then again, it'd be awkward telling her whenever.
Regardless, he gets al the necessary ingredients and heads to the girl's house. As usual (ever since he returned from back home this last time) Sasaneki is wearing an eyepatch covering his left eye and he is also wearing gloves to hide his arms - specially the later will be in the way, but he will handle that eventually. First things first: knocking at the door and offer a big smile to Naminé when he sees her opening it ]

[Dressed in a dainty little apron, Naminé offers him a bright smile back, reaching out to relieve him of some of the groceries. The whole house smells like warm sugar cookies-- if one went by that fact alone, nobody would suspect that she'd partially failed.]
Come on in, and don't let Shiro or Atoli beg for food from you. I just fed them. [She shoots the dog and cat staring at them on the couch a fond look.] Can I get you anything?

And it's alright- thank you. [ he has no plans on feeding the animals, of course, but he takes a peek at them and smiles wider.
However, his attention returns to the girl soon after, offering her the bag with the ingredients (and even some cooking utensils) they'll need ] Here, I brought everything we need.

Ken, you shouldn't have bought so much!
[But she laughs and trots into the kitchen with it all, hefting it onto the counter and starting to sort through it.]
I was making sugar cookies, but did you have a different recipe in mind?
no subject
We can try sugar cookies. The recipe is easy, but there are a couple of tricks to them when you are doing it for the first time.
[ he can't comment on the smell but from what she shown him - ] These cookies isn't necessary to refrigerated the dough for hours before actually baking - but because of that they can't really cut them into shapes. And they really expand while baking, so it's better not to use too much batter for each cookie.
[ Sassan, the baker. Or something like that ]

[She scrambles for her ever present sketchbook, flipping to a new page and starting to scribble notes down with a colored pencil nearby.]
How much batter for each cookie would be best? If we were going by, um. Sizes of spoons?
no subject
Kaneki smiles as he watches her reaching for the pencil ]
About a teaspoon of batter for each cookie would probably be the best. [ it doesn't sound like a lot, but they grow and plus, cookies shouldn't be too big ]
But this is mostly just my own experience. You learn as you bake more and more.

I see. It's one of those practice makes perfect things.
[So much for following easy recipes! But at least it was edible?]
Oh, is it like the chefs on TV, where they know just how big of a pinch of spice they need or how many more minutes something needs to stay in the oven just by looking? [Now that had been impressive.] Wait, can you do that, Ken?
no subject
[ if she follows the recipe it'll probably work out. Probably.
But he laughs lightly and nods after ] Yeah, I do. I've cooked for about three years now, for many different people. And they were all picky eaters, too. [ plus he is a fast learned. But the real feat here is that he does all of that without ever tasting his food - and yet still gets amazing results. He might be a Michelin star chief, but for someone who can't taste or smell what he is doing, Kaneki is really good at cooking. ]

Cooking for picky eaters on top of three years of practice...no wonder you're so good. I still remember everything you brought for last year's beach party. [She laughs into her sketchpad.] I'm going to make it a goal to be half as good as you. So...let's start my education!

That's why when cooking, it's also important to keep in mind with whom you are going to share your food. [ something like that. ]
Anyway! [ he taps the counter ] You will cook - I'll just see how you do things, alright? let you know how you can get better as you go. [ it sounds better like that, he thinks ]

[She makes a noise of complete agreement, making a little note of that on her sketchpad because well, why not? And it seems like a very important tidbit of advice to remember. Then she sets it aside to reach for her apron.
She's admittedly a little nervous, despite knowing Ken is judging her with kind intentions, so she takes a moment to take a deep breath and do a little double fist pump to psyche herself up.]
Alright! Um, let's see-- I guess I should say what I'm doing while I do them so you know what I'm thinking? I'll start measuring out the dry ingredients first.
[And starts happily puttering around the kitchen doing that, her measuring cups and things clinking and clanking.]
