[It's December 12th, and that means that Fuu Hououji is fifteen. She's really not sure what to make of that fact. Usually she celebrates birthdays by having dinner with her family and a piece of cake in her lunch at school, but...

Well, she knows that some people know her birthday, and anyway there's no reason to stay at home, moping and playing video games. No, it's time to go outside and find some ice cream, or a friend.]

Nonah

[Heropa is nice and all, but Fuu is used to cold on her birthday and no matter what these Floridians say, 60 degrees Farenheit does not count. So she travels up to North Carolina, where the temperature is at least close to freezing.

She might be found in her favorite arcade, racking up the points or looking for a two-player partner, or enjoying the frost with her scarf and earmuffs.]

[Kagami is out today earlier than usual as his classes ended early and he spots Fuu at one of the local cafes getting something to eat. So he does what any normal person would and approaches her.]

Mind if I join you?

[Kagami! Fuu smiles brightly.]

Of course not! I'd be happy to have company. [She gestures at the counter, which is full of lovely-looking baked goods.] Do you want anything? My treat.

[He stares over each thing at the counter before deciding on the fudge brownie.]

I'll take the brownie, but what do you want? I don't mind buying you something too.

[monster_san]

[Fuu giggles, she likes the idea of a mutual treat.]

All right, that seems fair. [She considers the display and picks out a fancy (but not overly expensive) cupcake.] That looks more like a decoration than a dessert. I wonder if it tastes as pretty as it looks?

[darkimitation]

[He ponders over what she said and stares at the cupcake in question.]

I don't see why not. They put all the effort into making it look nice, why wouldn't it taste good?

[She drops her voice to a whisper, lest she offend the bakers.]

It could be a case of style over substance! But I think you're more likely to be right. They had to bake it before decorating it.

[darkimitation]

[He's not about to drop his voice, he's not the type to do that.]

You can always complain if it tastes bad.

[The clerk was already looking somewhat askance at their whispering, but now her look turns openly hostile.]

If you don't want it, don't buy it!

[Fuu waves her hands in conciliation.]

Oh, don't worry! I'm just speaking in hypotheticals. My friend here agrees, it's more than likely delicious.

[darkimitation]

[Kagami more than often doesn't take kindly to people yelling, so he retorts with his own loud hostility.]

Shut up! She wants the cupcake, so don't get your panties in a bunch over what we're talking about.

[WHOOPS, this isn't how Fuu quite envisioned a trip to the bakery. She waves her hands a little, hoping to lower the volume a little.]

Now, now, there's no need to yell. It's much too strange to have a loud argument over cupcakes, don't you think?

[Only rolling his eyes a bit at the baker for a moment, Kagami soon turns back to look at Fuu.]

Some people need to be put in their place about things and that's what I'm doing.

[Fuu smiles in a disarming way.]

It is a good thing to stand up for your friends. But I think in this case, I brought it on myself for being flippant about cupcakes right under the baker's nose.

[darkimitation]

[Oh. Was he doing that? Welp, he guesses so.]

Uh sure, that's what I was doing aside from what I said. We'll go with that.

[Fuu might hear the sounds of a struggle nearby, at Heropa #033. It is not, in fact, a fight of any kind, but instead just Naminé, wrestling with Riku's dog Shiro to get a knit sweater on him, while the other animals look on with mild interest.]

Shiro, please just stay still for a minute--!

[monster_san]

[A canine cacophany! Well, not a cacophany, but it's still enough to attract Fuu's attention, and she leans over the fence to watch with interest--after a second, she smiles brightly.]

Oh, it's nice to see that you've healed well, Miss Namine!

[Hearing Fuu's voice is enough of a distraction for Naminé that Shiro manages to wiggle away, the sweater only half on and dragging dirt as he bolts for it. Naminé apparently gives it up as a lost cause since she turns to Fuu with a smile.]

Oh yes, I'm all better now. And just in time, thankfully. I didn't want to miss out on all the holiday events going on. How are you today, Fuu?

[Fuu giggles as Shiro escapes his fate... partially, at least.]

I'm glad to hear it! It's no fun to be sick or hurt over the holidays. Particularly one as festive as American Christmas! [Her smile becomes something a little softer.] As for how I am... I suppose 'fifteen', if that can be an adjective.

Oh! Happy birthday!

[It's unfortunate that she hasn't gotten to know Fuu well enough in time to prepare something, but it's still something she immediately wants to celebrate anyways.]

Do you have any plans today? If you have time, let's go somewhere for a bit.

Thank you! [Fuu beams. It's not like she's gone around announcing her birthday, after all.] I've been looking for someone to do something fun with, in fact. What do you like to do besides draw?

[She giggles into her hands.]

Other arts and crafts projects! But if you mean something not art related, I like talking walks. I explore the cities and find something new to do that I haven't ever done before. The other day it was riding a carousel and playing boardwalk games.

Ah, that's always a good thing to do... we should find as many new experiences as possible. And even with almost a year in future, alternate-universe America it's still not a difficult task.

[She cups her cheek in one hand, considering what new thing they might try.]

Have you ever rollerskated, Namine-san?

No, not at all! Is it anything like ice skating? I did that earlier last week and it was very fun. Though I'm still sore from falling so much.
