[CLOSED]
WHO: Hermann Gottlieb, Newton Geiszler, and Raina
WHERE: A Mediterranean Restaurant in De Chima
WHEN: Early December
WHAT: The scientists meet to discuss an opportunity.
WARNINGS: Maybe talk of shady science, but so far nothing else I can think of! Will update if necessary.
[ Raina had invited the two to a nice comfortable restaurant at the edge of the city. It wasn't too formal, but it wasn't entirely casual that you would hear regular families with their children screaming all throughout the lunch. The seating she reserved was a private table near a picturesque window that overlooked De Chima in all of its technological glory. A nice spot to view the things they all appreciated most. Science and technology.
Raina had arrived quite early to make sure everything was in order and to get the exact table she wanted, so when the pair arrive, she rises to her feet and extends her hand to the both of them with a cheerful smile. ]
I'm so glad you both could make it. I hope the restaurant is to your liking.

He takes her hand with a return smile. If he looks a bit concerned, it's because he's suddenly realized he doesn't know her last name- and fumbles a bit]
It's quite lovely, Miss ..Raina. We appreciate your invitation.
AAAAAND I'm sorry for the lateness
[Newt shakes her hand, feeling a bit wary of her, but he's never had GREAT instincts in that department, so it might just be that she's very beautiful and so he's nervous about her.
He's made an effort to look nice and professional, which he doesn't seem to be comfortable with either. Newt lets Hermann sit first, pulling out the chair for him if necessary, then takes a seat beside him.]
Nice view from up here. I don't think we've ever been to this place before.
[He is trying to make smalltalk, but it's obvious he's anxious. Then again, Newt is always anxious.]
It's all good!
It's just Raina.
[ She could have a last name if Chilton would actually marry her. But that's not something she'll dump on their shoulders. Especially given that neither of them have a fondness for Frederick. Best to pretend he doesn't exist. To the anxious Newt, Raina offers a smile. ]
If nothing else comes of this, maybe you two can have a new spot for a date.
[ Raina sinks down onto one side of the booth to sit direction across from the couple. And she instructs the waiter to get them a bottle of expensive red wine because conversations were always best lubricated by alcohol. Opening the menu, Raina peruses over the choices while posing them the question. ]
So in your network call, you said you were interested in solving the great mysteries of the world. I definitely admire that healthy scientific appetite. Is your interest more focused on imPorts themselves, the nanites, or perhaps the porter? I know that one kind of tends to lead into the other, really. So I can understand if all of them hold equal interest for you.

I'm a theoretical physicist, so in a bit of a loose sense, I'm interested in the Porter. We.. had a friend that was a quantum physicist, unable to build a dimensional portal to the same specifications he had in his own world.
In addition to imPort powers that should be impossible in most respects, I believe it means there are some fundamental differences in the physics of this world that should be thoroughly understood in order to be successful in the study of the porter.

His knee bounces and nudges Hermann's under the table and stays there, the touch an anchor in their connection.]
I've done studies on nanites, but despite efforts, it's yielded few results. My interest as of late has been in imPort powers and the non humans among the population. I mean, seeing as my focus back home was xenobiology-- [The wine comes and he gladly accepts a glass of it, taking a long sip. It's pretty clear that Newt is not a wine connoisseur. He drinks like it's any other drink.] --it's really no surprise a nice looking dragon can turn my head, you know? But yeah. After that Russian sub vacation early this year, I think more studies and information on the way nanites, imPorts, and the Porter interact are really in order. It's just a matter of resources and access.
What about you?

And almost immediately after Hermann is done speaking, Newt's voice takes wind and her attention is on him. The two of them, although different in many ways, are almost like one entity. It's fascinating to watch, and even more fascinating that the pair encompass a vast range of scientific areas. She only mildly raises her brow at the way Newt drinks his wine because it's far more interesting to get the opportunity to interact with the two of them together. ]
Oh I certainly understand the limitations of resources and access.
[ The bane of a scientist's existence. ]
I've been interested in cellular research of imPorts. I've always been fascinated by how powered individuals work and what cells activate when utilizing those powers. Back in my world, these sorts of things are common. So common in fact that I haven't stopped to realize perhaps there is something about this world and its physics that determine our powers. And that would be something especially interesting to look into.
[ She smiles at Hermann and then makes eye contact with Newt. ]
Perhaps it might interest you to know I'm not human myself. [ Maybe the best way to a man's heart is by appealing to his xenobiological curiosity? Raina will try her best to win Newt over because she's sure Newt will be the one to bring in Hermann. ] It's not something I advertise, really. It's easier to pretend to be human because here, at least, I can pass as one. I'm something called an Inhuman. It means I have alien blood inside of me, mutations that the Kree race had made on certain humans a long time ago. These mutations lie dormant until one of my kind undergo something called terragenesis. Think of a larva spinning into a pupa. This alien material creates something of a cocoon and once it hatches, we emerge as our new selves -- often with powers, sometimes with horrific transformations.
[ Raina doesn't specify which one hers was. ]
But I wonder if, in a way, we're all Inhuman here. If coming through that porter from our worlds causes us to undergo something similar to terragenesis. I don't suppose either of you have information about what your genes were like prior to arriving here? [ She questions with a soft laugh. If only any of them had that sort of foresight to bring that information here in order to compare. ]

Well we're all guilty of bias when it comes to our fields of expertise. Admittedly, powers may not be related to physics at all, but given past attempts, I'm given to believe there are some differences among worlds.
[But that Raina isn't strictly human is surprising. Dormant genes and a rather implausible theory- but nothing they could disprove.]
In way of our genetics, I'm rather certain Newton and I were incredibly ordinary before arriving here, but it would be an interesting theory if we had the means of proving it.
