[CLOSED]

WHO: Hermann Gottlieb, Newton Geiszler, and Raina
WHERE: A Mediterranean Restaurant in De Chima
WHEN: Early December
WHAT: The scientists meet to discuss an opportunity.
WARNINGS: Maybe talk of shady science, but so far nothing else I can think of! Will update if necessary.

[ Raina had invited the two to a nice comfortable restaurant at the edge of the city. It wasn't too formal, but it wasn't entirely casual that you would hear regular families with their children screaming all throughout the lunch. The seating she reserved was a private table near a picturesque window that overlooked De Chima in all of its technological glory. A nice spot to view the things they all appreciated most. Science and technology.

Raina had arrived quite early to make sure everything was in order and to get the exact table she wanted, so when the pair arrive, she rises to her feet and extends her hand to the both of them with a cheerful smile. ]

I'm so glad you both could make it. I hope the restaurant is to your liking.

[It's a nice place, enough to pull on a nicer pair of slacks and jacket rather than his usual ill-fitting and slightly tattered fare. A good vantage point, quiet atmosphere, but not terribly expensive. It seems like a considerate choice.

He takes her hand with a return smile. If he looks a bit concerned, it's because he's suddenly realized he doesn't know her last name- and fumbles a bit]

It's quite lovely, Miss ..Raina. We appreciate your invitation.
driftsintobuffetline: (well yeah you could do that)

AAAAAND I'm sorry for the lateness

Yeah. Uh. Thanks.

[Newt shakes her hand, feeling a bit wary of her, but he's never had GREAT instincts in that department, so it might just be that she's very beautiful and so he's nervous about her.

He's made an effort to look nice and professional, which he doesn't seem to be comfortable with either. Newt lets Hermann sit first, pulling out the chair for him if necessary, then takes a seat beside him.]

Nice view from up here. I don't think we've ever been to this place before.

[He is trying to make smalltalk, but it's obvious he's anxious. Then again, Newt is always anxious.]

[Hermann shares a look with Newton. He's expected this conversation will mostly be in the biologist's field of expertise, but Newton is oddly stiff. Perhaps the wine was a good choice]

I'm a theoretical physicist, so in a bit of a loose sense, I'm interested in the Porter. We.. had a friend that was a quantum physicist, unable to build a dimensional portal to the same specifications he had in his own world.

In addition to imPort powers that should be impossible in most respects, I believe it means there are some fundamental differences in the physics of this world that should be thoroughly understood in order to be successful in the study of the porter.

[Their friend is another reason Newt is a tad anxious. Maybe they should be pouring their focus into Qubit's super squad. For all Newt had been an obnoxious jokester about it, he regrets not being more supportive now...and are they abandoning Qubit's project for strangers? But super squad isn't about the quest for information and, yeah, they need information. It just feels...too soon, maybe. Or he's just sensitive to all the loss.

His knee bounces and nudges Hermann's under the table and stays there, the touch an anchor in their connection.]

I've done studies on nanites, but despite efforts, it's yielded few results. My interest as of late has been in imPort powers and the non humans among the population. I mean, seeing as my focus back home was xenobiology-- [The wine comes and he gladly accepts a glass of it, taking a long sip. It's pretty clear that Newt is not a wine connoisseur. He drinks like it's any other drink.] --it's really no surprise a nice looking dragon can turn my head, you know? But yeah. After that Russian sub vacation early this year, I think more studies and information on the way nanites, imPorts, and the Porter interact are really in order. It's just a matter of resources and access.

What about you?

[If they hadn't been in polite company, Hermann would have smacked him. As it is, he radiates annoyance at him with a pointed look to the wine. He raises his own glass to properly sample as an example.]

Well we're all guilty of bias when it comes to our fields of expertise. Admittedly, powers may not be related to physics at all, but given past attempts, I'm given to believe there are some differences among worlds.

[But that Raina isn't strictly human is surprising. Dormant genes and a rather implausible theory- but nothing they could disprove.]

In way of our genetics, I'm rather certain Newton and I were incredibly ordinary before arriving here, but it would be an interesting theory if we had the means of proving it.
