[He sees her expression soften as she takes in the sight he must be and kind of hates that he's letting anyone see him like this, but if he lets her slip away he might not be able to catch her again]

[ She glances back to the other fans, then back to him. ]

[The real sign of how out of it he is right now is that he doesn't even comment on all the reasons she should not be smoking and instead just gestures for her to lead the way]

[ Cool good. She starts walking briskly thattaway, proud of how she has definitely picked up this cool cowboy. ]

Also, it wasn't a bad rock concert.

[He follows alongside her]

So that - it happened to everyone?

[He's trying to think back to when he left, if everyone else looked like he felt. But he was hanging at the back in the first place and for once in his life he wasn't exactly paying attention to the people around him]

Nah. Not everyone can really understand, but fans can like it without totally getting it.

Good.

[That's a relief on a couple of levels, not the least of which because he'd hate it if it turned out such a personal experience had nothing to do with him at all]

So is it a power or is it something you do back home?

[ Her mouth quirks at "good." She's getting the picture pretty clearly by now- hers isn't a message everyone enjoys hearing. Not that something like that would shut her up. ]

[ She looks back at him, maybe a little concerned. ]

[That makes so much sense that he doesn't even visibly react to it. Of course she's hell, of course that's a taste of what's waiting for him, if anything is]

Yeah, I'm okay. You don't need to go worrying about me.

Yeah, no offense, but you don't look OK at all.

[ her head tips in his direction. maybe he misunderstands, it's not the hell that awaits him, it's the hell he's already in. knowing that she has that much in common with her fans made her only feel that much closer to them, and responsible for this sort of reaction. ]

I know.

[and he's not happy about it]

Listen, I can handle it. I'll be fine.

[ She looks at him a long moment, not sure what to say. Usually, what she needs to say is all there in her song, the ugly truth and the silver lining all at once. But of course that's not enough. How could it be?

Finally, she just shrugs. ]

If you say so. Still sucks.

Not gonna argue there.

[And then he hesitates, not used to sharing but knowing that she's not really reassured right now and not wanting to leave her worried about what she's done.]

Listen, my problem's always been - if I'm feeling something, then I'm doing fine, all right?

[ She glances back at him only briefly this time. "If he's feeling something." She thinks about the weeks and months spent lying down and feeling nothing, like she was already bones.

Finally, she nods. ]

OK.

[His brow furrows at how long that takes]

Are you okay?

[ What can she say? Of course she isn't. Wouldn't ever be. Persephone is in Hell. But there was a catharsis for her in the concerts as well. it cleared her head, or at least helped her put it in order.

She just shrugs, as casually as possible. ]

Close enough.

... I could do with a drink.

[There's an implicit do you want to come with? in the way he says it]
