WHO: Lucy and Kel
WHERE: The farm, outside De Chima
WHEN: The very end of the month
WHAT: A relationship Talk
WARNINGS: Shouldn't be any!

[It's not that Lucy has been avoiding Kel.

It's that Lucy has been avoiding having a serious conversation with Kel. Mostly through the entire month of September. At first it was easy enough to disguise - they could kiss and talk about breezy things, they could be sweet and talk about sweet things, they could be together and talk about politics, always.

But the moment it turned about them, Lucy would change the topic, seamlessly, cleverly. She is not as good with words as Edmund but she is good enough.

But at some point, that has to end.

That doesn't mean she won't try again. They're riding, because it's a rare day off, and Lucy wanted to go out and about.]

Did we forget food?

[It hadn't taken Kel long to catch onto the topic changes, and for the most part she had.... Simply let it be. There was nothing pressed for a serious discussion after all. This world was its own, and though they brought rank with them, the trappings of it weren't here.

But eventually the lack of actual seriousness does start nagging at her. If nothing else, Kel is cursed with a strong sense of responsibility.... And there is that other matter-

In any case, this day, this day she is determined to speak up and not be distracted. She just needs the right moment....]

I brought sandwiches, not a large spread, I'm afraid.

[She looks back towards the direction they came from, and, well-]

I think that will suffice.

[It's almost a crisp day. Lucy isn't wearing any jewelry. Autumn is promised.]

I'm so pleased that I have at least one day to spend with you, my lady.

[Kel smiles and moves her horse closer, offering an out-stretched hand]

I've found that more often than not, one has to make time because the work will fill up anything extra.

[Tilting her head her smile turns more into a grin]

Though you have looked like you've been enjoying yourself all the same.

Well, work had not been my intention for all this past month, but it seems to have swallowed me without reservation.

[She sighs a bit. Oh, how frustrating.]

Well, we've managed to get ourselves a good day anyway.

[Which she is totally not wondering if she is planning on ruining....]

Where did you want to ride today?

I had thought we could go a bit into the mountainside, do you not agree?

Suits me well enough.

[She lets the silence fall between them for a bit before taking in a breath]

I did have a question for you, for once not work related.

[She looks over a little, and tilts her head, like, well, yes?]

[Kel carefully keeps her eyes between her horse's ears. Generally, she found it easy to be blunt about this sort of thing, but the obvious avoidance Lucy had shown had put a LOT more weight on this question than she had thought-]

-Are you interested in marriage? Because I'm not. Just in case it needed to be said.

[Nailed It]

[She looks surprised, then, enough that the horse under her starts at the sudden shift of weight.]

Marriage? To-

To you? Aslan's mane-

[She looks flabbergasted.]

How could I be when we could by no means ever get married?

Well, you mentioned 'courting', my lady.

[Trying to sound wry and not slightly hurt]

I only wanted to make sure we both agreed there.

What other word would you use?

[She's loosening the reins - she's riding Delilah, who is faster than any other horse she has, and that's not the best sign.

But she's still talking.]

They use 'dating' here.

[Kel is riding Felicity, having decided that Peachblossom is simply too much a third wheel for this sort of outing. Moving closer, she reaches out and touches Lucy's shoulder in some reassurance, though for which of them she couldn't say]

It does help that NOT getting married is... Somewhat more accepted here.

[Ducking her head, Kel clears her throat]

It just seems foolish to make life long promises we can't keep.

I am unlike to get married in any circumstance.

[She tips her shoulder, just a little, into that touch.]

["So do you need to be a virgin queen-?"

The question almost leaps out of Kel's mouth, which she closes with a snap and simply nods in response. She's spent years not saying what instantly comes to mind, best not to start now.]

I wanted to make sure we were agreed, that's all. I know this is new for us both.

[She grins and briefly tucks a strayed strand of hair behind Lucy's ear]

And if anything describes this place it's 'unusual circumstances'.

Yes. I think it's something we can easily agree upon.

[Thoroughly out of courage for the moment, Kel smiles sweetly...and kicks Felicity into a run, pulling ahead sharpish, and letting out a whoop that sets the trees ringing.

Too much Feeling all at once, a fast ride will do well to break it]

[Lucy looks slightly surprised, but then she's laughing and following, and she gives Delilah all the space to really fly. They're excellent riders, the both of them, and so it's a breakneck race, until they burst out into open space and high meadows, and that's where Delilah goes for it, leaving nothing behind.]

[Kel and Felicity are a good enough team by now to give them both a run for their money, but once they hit the open meadow it's of no use. Kel gives Felicity her head and just laughs as Delilah pulls farther and farther ahead.

As they reach the far end and slow up, she is still laughing]

She's a daughter of the wind, that one and no mistake.

Oh, yes, and I think she has finally left the dream of d'Artagnan behind.

[There's a fond scratch to Delilah's neck.]

It's no bad thing, taking time to mourn a friend.

[Felicity dances under her,the excitement from the run breaking her usual calm]

Though it seems we should either pick a spot or keep going at a dead run.

[She considers it-

And then lets the reigns go again. Because why not.]

[Kel laughs again and doesn't even need to kick Felicity into a run as the mare has bolted after Delilah. The winding mountain path means a lot of swerving and less of a dead run, but even so both the horses are lathered in sweat and blowing hard before they pull down to a trot of their own accord.

Kel swings off Felicity and lets her walk, wiping off some sweat of her own]

A few more months with you and I might just turn into a trick rider in self defense.

It's only a trick if you can do it without a jumping horn.

[Which, occasionally, Lucy does, because she's insane.]

Not for me then, I'm much to large to bother trying THAT.

[Kel continues on in silence, happy enough to feel herself cooling off some, and looking for a more comfortable place to stop]

[Lucy finds one, and circles Delilah once, and then again.]

I much doubt size had anything to do with the disposition of your saddle.

[Kel opens her mouth...

...And closes it again, concentrating firmly on removing her packs and stifling all the dirty jokes that spring to mind.

...The giggles she's not as successful at]

[She stares, perplexed.]

What?

[Kel sets the bags down and tries to get herself under some semblance of control]

I'm sorry, I've spent too much time in the company of soldiers and young men.

[Taking out the wrapped sandwiches, she hands one over]

Something I daresay your sister would have discouraged, if I judge her right from your stories.

She does not discourage it, if they have manners.

[Which. Well. In Narnia they mostly do.]

[Kel has a brief image of the members of Third Company faced with Lucy in court dress and crown.

Well.]

Yes, they do tend to keep those in their back pockets for such occasions.

Occasions such as?

Occasions such as when actual ladies are about.

You are the only one who thinks I am an actual lady.

[Kel grins and touches the other woman's hand lightly]

And a very fine lady at that, so say I. And anyone else in my hearing, for that matter, unless they want me to have words with them.
