so, when you give that look to me

WHO: REGGIE and SASHA
WHERE: Heropa and then who knows!
WHEN: Sometime this past weekend.
WHAT: Adventure date in which they decide to take the wrong car.
WARNINGS: Possible references to/talk of zombies, death, violence, and sex. AoT/AwA spoilers.

    [ Reverberating with excitement as she hops off the porch, Will's car keys in hands along with a bag of snacks and other things, Sasha can't help herself she finds it exciting that she and Reggie are about to take another impromptu drive somewhere for the heck of it. They don't travel anywhere together save for the usual diners or back and forth between their own houses, so it's a refreshing change of pace to be able to do something different but still fun with him.

    It's only fair Reggie gets to decide the destination (if there is one, not that there was the last), but that would have probably happened anyway as Sasha still hasn't learned how to drive. She's glad it isn't up to her anyway — backing over Dorian is fresh in her mind when she glances at Will's car, Jeff's own parked not too far from it. ]

    Will said we can take his. He didn't say anything about needing it back right away, so... [ She holds out the keys for Reggie with a big, bright smile on her face. ] We have all night, I think. I brought lots of snacks so we won't get hungry!

    [ Sasha gives the bag a shake, it being weighed down with all kinds of food like chips, mini-pretzels, drinks, cookies, but also some healthier options like fruits and carrots and celery. ]
    mantlepieces: (get in losers we're going shopping)

    sorry that I'm the worst......

    [ It started, last time, as a spontaneous exercise in getting himself comfortable behind the wheel of a car again. Sure, Reggie liked to drive, and sure, normally he's pretty decent of a driver, but it'd also be quite an understatement to call his inability to do so the past two years simply driving anxiety.

    Getting behind the wheel still makes his heart race, his head pound, and palms sweat; images and sounds still flash through his brain, imprinted behind his eyes possibly forever. Why? Reggie resents the way trauma clings to him so tightly, and that's why he's so determined now to start finding more ways to aggressively defy it.
    ]

    All night, huh? Just how far do you think we're going -- driving at night's no picnic, you know. Unless you had other plans.

    [ He holds his palm out to collect the keys, running a comb through his hair with his opposite hand. Then he looks from Will's car to Jeff's much nicer one. ]

    Huh. Whose car is that?
    mantlepieces: (hi haters bye haters)

    [ Reggie doesn't acknowledge Sasha's question, walking over to Jeff's car to examine it more closely. Where...? Hell if he knows, honestly -- planning it kind of defeats the whole purpose, which is to just feel good and free behind the wheel again without overthinking little things like destination. It's all about the journey, right? ]

    Like I said, I'm not looking to be driving all night. That's practically trucker territory or something.

    [ And, gross. He turns his head back toward Sasha, nodding toward Jeff's car. ]

    A convertible. Let's take it instead -- see what it's like to drive in real style, for once in your life.
    mantlepieces: or the good kind of priceless? (priceless like a mother's love?)

    [ If Reggie shares the concern, it doesn't seem to show; he knows Jeff, after all, and they're... sort of close, aren't they? Isn't it only fair, then, that Reggie be allowed to borrow his car if he wants to? Or that Sasha should be, at the very least. Otherwise what's the point of living with people who treat you like... you're a family or something.

    Who wants that?
    ]

    Your boss? He's my boss.

    [ One of. Reggie leans into the car, running his palm over the interior seats and feeling around under the dash to see if there's a spare key hidden in the car itself; probably not, but you never know. ]

    He won't mind. Check inside real quick and see if his keys are in there -- but it's fine, maybe we don't need them.

    [ He's never done anything like hotwire a car before, but that's probably on google or something? ]

    I mean, just on weekends in his other office sometimes. No big deal.

    [ Reggie shrugs dismissively, not really in the mood to talk about work even if he was the one who introduced the semi-tangent; their paths don't cross, but maybe that's for the best. Working with your girlfriend seems like it'd be like working for your parents or something -- too suffocating, in a way. Besides, knowing Sasha, and also knowing himself, no work would actually end up getting done.

    Then he glances back over at her, running his hand over the car's hood to familiarize himself with the way a car like this feels, a grin on his face.
    ]

    Seriously? Atta girl, I knew I liked you for a reason. [ Joking, obviously! But, he was hoping she'd say that; she can teleport, after all. ] Should I wait out here?
    mantlepieces: (I'm home now and I'm looking so...)

    [personal profile] mantlepieces 2016-10-30 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
    [ Whoever that-- oh, right. One of Sasha's friends, Reggie can somewhat remember... but no one he's ever met before. Whatever.

    Waiting mostly patiently while Sasha's gone, Reggie's taken the liberty of jumping over the door and seating himself in the driver's seat by the time Sasha reappears. He makes a couple attempted grabs at the dangling keys.
    ]

    Come on. [ Now he's impatient, though just a little bit. If they're going to be driving, though, better for it not to be in the dark. ] I knew you could do it...?! We're too old for magic words, Sasha.

    [ A boy nearly impossible to wrench a "please" out of. ]
    mantlepieces: (it would be stupid to say "yes" now)

    [personal profile] mantlepieces 2016-11-03 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
    [ Reggie grabs at them a few more times, getting increasingly impatient each time if only from the frustration of it -- he huffs out an aggressive breath, hitting his hand on the steering wheel. ]

    Come on, Sasha, we gotta get going if we don't wanna miss daylight completely. Quit playing around!

    [ Another huff, leaning his arm against the seat's back. ]

    What're you trying to prove, anyway?
    mantlepieces: (not as big of a jerk as he could've been)

    [personal profile] mantlepieces 2016-11-14 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
    [ Reggie plucks the keys from her irritably but leaves it at that, getting the car started with a twist of key in ignition. Then, leaning his arm over the lip of the car window, he looks at her again. ]

    No one likes driving in the dark, Sasha.

    [ He says it like, duh, then waves her over impatiently to get into the car already, even as she's on her way. ]

    It'd be your funeral. Do you like macaroni? Wait, what am I saying... [ Of course she does. ] Why should I say please for something you were already gonna do? You don't need to mess with me, too.
