[Closed] You can dance if you want to
WHO: Garrus Vakarian and Duv Galeni
WHERE: A bar in Nonah
WHEN: Sometime early September
WHAT: Duv needs security advice and who better to ask than a former Citadel security officer.
[ For the amount of time he's been here and the amount of multiverses that have been tapped for imPorts, Duv has yet to speak to one of the nonhuman-looking aliens. All of those claiming to be some species other than human were similar enough in appearance that Duv gave their claims an ounce of skepticism. But Kasumi's shown him her alien crew mates. It helps to not be going in blind although he's can't help remembering the video Kasumi had showed him.
Maybe he'll figure out whether or not the 'dancing' he had seen this Garrus doing was accidental or part of a cultural movement of his people...
He shows up at the bar on time and it only takes him a moment to spot who he's looking for. Business first and then perhaps he could make a decent impression upon one of Kasumi's close friends. For as much as the woman seemingly kept to herself, she had collected a loyal selection of friends that Duv would like to know more about.
He clears his throat upon approach so as not to surprise the other man. ] Garrus Vakarian? Duv Galeni, Ms. Goto sent me to meet with you. [ Was it custom to shake a turian's hand? Questions he should have asked before being sent here, but he offers his out to shake anyway. ]

Nice to meet you, Duv.
[Garrus says in the tone of someone who has no idea the person he's meeting for the first time has dirt on him without even meaning to.]
She told me you needed some security advice.
no subject
He keeps the shake firm, but brief and slides into the booth across from Garrus. ]
That's correct. She said you might be of help with navigating the equipment available in this period. I'm afraid my group and I are far removed from this century and are still adjusting to the antiquated systems.
no subject
Same. Toss in a completely different species and you've got one hell of a learning curve.
Lucky for you, Kasumi wasn't kidding when she said I know my way around a good chunk of the available systems. It's, uh, kind of a hobby.
[Obsession.]
So what in particular are you looking to keep safe?
no subject
We're out in the countryside of De Chima and ran into difficulties with a supernatural imPort by the name of Lucifer. While he's no longer around, we wish to protect ourselves from others like him.
[ Not that he expects Garrus to know how to tackle the supernatural, but even a warning of some kind would be better than nothing. ]
no subject
'Others like him' is pretty vague.
What kinda firepower did he have, and what kind are you expecting in the future?
no subject
[ A fact he's thankful for given how many of them are here. ]
Current I live with Barrayarans, so I imagine all manner of weapons being thrown at us. They have a tendency to stand their ground and fight regardless of the odds. Lucifer managed to kidnap one of our own from our housing, sent a hostile magic user to attack us under false pretenses, and used strange... hounds to attack us.
[ So 'a lot' of firepower. ]

So you're gonna want an early detection system, preferably one that doesn't rely solely on video-based alerts. You're gonna want to invest in either a close to ground infrared system or something that relies on underground sensors. Only thing is, underground sensors are impractical for wide range, so you'll have to place them strategically based on your house layout.
How do you feel about explosives?
[He asks in the nonchalance only a turian can manage when it comes to detonation devices.]
no subject
At the mention of explosives he cocks his head slightly to the side as he considers it. ]
Depends on their usage and how well the triggering system is wired. I don't want an accidental wake-up call in the middle of the night from one.
no subject
[Because Mordin's philosophy of "It has to be me, because someone else may get it wrong" rings true in more than one death-defying (...and embracing, in that plucky salarian's case) scenario.]
And don't worry about the triggering system. Preventing false flags is just as important as keeping the crazies away from your place. Don't need anyone finding out you've got some awesome new security detail too early.
no subject
[ Hopefully they'll luck out and the Vor will be out of the house. He'd much rather deal with this solo than an entire entourage of warrior caste scrutinizing his negotiations. ]
Good. I was unsure the extent of which the systems here were developed. Do you have one already in place somewhere I could see?
no subject
[Said system includes exploding windows and complicated failsafes, so that's kind of similar.]
If you want, you can come over and take a look.
You're a friend of Kasumi's, so I trust you.
no subject
But airing their laundry isn't why Duv is here today even if he's curious as to what Kasumi has told Garrus. ]
Yes, that would help greatly. I'd like to see a practical application. Is your place far?
no subject
Not too far. We can use one of the Porters.
If you're ready, we can go now.
no subject
At your discretion. I cleared my time to get this situated.
[ And if that means taking a trip to a strange alien's potentially dangerous home then off he goes. ]
no subject
[Garrus acknowledges that smooth move with a nod of his head and starts to lead Duv along the way to his home. It's a pretty uneventful path for them to take... unless ninjas start jumping down from the rooftops or something. Which is entirely possible at this point, but can also wait for another day.]
[It's also the perfect time for some garrulous conversation.]
[Or you could also say some... garruslous conversation.]
[See, it's funny because it's a shitty pun.]
So.
How do you know Kasumi?
no subject
He lets Garrus lead the way, falling into step beside the turian. He had a feeling this question would come up at some point and he falters slightly. Kasumi had said she wanted to keep their business separate so no one would pry, but it's hardly sensitive information. ]
We met through a friend of hers, a young girl named Mabel Pines. She set up an outing for the two of us. I'm still not entirely sure how she knew about me for an invitation to be sent.
[ Which is unsettling given his career in Imperial Security. Where there's a Pines, there's a way. ]
no subject
[Garrus glances down at Duv, examining his every move along with his words. It's an old habit he's not exactly keen on breaking: analyzing everyone around him to check for motives and overall personality quirks. It's the only way he'll ever feel comfortable around anyone at this point.]
An 'outing', huh?
[He's seen Mabel around, but not enough to make any sound judgments. Regardless, he's going to push for information.]
no subject
He knows that look. That's the same look Duv uses in his own line of work. At least that confirms for him that Garrus' line of work is indeed in security. ]
We grabbed coffee and spoke for a time.
no subject
[He's amazing at both.]
What about?
If it's okay to ask, I mean.
[Garrus says in a tone that insinuates that he doesn't actually care if it's okay to ask. But in a way that's still friendly. He's good at that, too.]
no subject
Our names, interests. It was our first meeting. She's been here far longer and I was able to learn more about this place from her experience.
[ It's not a lie, but a half-truth. Duv doe slike to think of that as his and Kasumi's first date now that they've had more than a few outings of similar nature together. ]
no subject
[It's like a game to this guy. What a jerk.]
Sounds like a nice date.
no subject
[ The date part came later in his assessment of the situation. Never mind that he'd like to share some part of this relationship before he bursts.
But it's fine, he can maintain his calm. It is Kasumi's preference. ]
How close are you and Ms. Goto?
no subject
[Speaking of:]
She and I served together on the Normandy.
So we’re practically family. Different species thing notwithstanding.
no subject
Yes, I can imagine given the circumstances in your Nexus. [ Because yes he has heard about the strange death machines touring the galaxies. ]
Have you been here as long as her?
