[CLOSED] I've got a spider in my head

WHO: Peter Parker and Tony Stark/Charles Xavier
WHERE: Starktech.
WHEN: Late August/early September
WHAT: Peter makes some house office calls.
WARNINGS: Will be added where necessary.

TONY STARK, late August.
Peter's on his self-declared lunch break right now, which usually means a swing and a brief patrol before (or after--or frequently, after and before) scarfing down a quick lunch bought off a food truck before getting back to work. Today, he's swinging--purely in a metaphorical sense, this time--down to Tony's office.

He wants to pick another scientist's brain about the durability tests he's been running on the sample fabrics he's designed for his new spider suit. That's one reason he's there, at least; the other is that he's hoping showing Tony the progress he's making on putting together his own, one hundred percent Peter Parker-designed suit will get him to lay off the guilt-tripping about the Iron Spider Mark II.

It's a faint hope, but where would a friendly neighborhood superhero be without gratuitous optimism?

CHARLES XAVIER, early September.
After spending a long, productive afternoon in his lab, Peter pried himself away from the siren call of more ~science~ to discover that: a) it's now no longer afternoon, nor early evening, but well into night; and b) he's out of coffee, which is an untenable situation for a man who has a few hours of patrol in front of him. The latter reason is why he's sneaking into one of the break rooms of Starktech proper, hoping to cadge a cup or two out of the machines there.

Some nights Charles didn't even pretend he was heading home.

He'd contact Erik to see what his housemate was up to and to let the man know his plans and then immediately get sucked back into work. He had two projects running, a second idea having branched off the first and this was on top of the work he'd been doing to get the Foundation ready for it's September opening.

Charles was used to Tony rattling around, somewhere in the building, though usually their paths didn't cross unless Charles went looking for him. So he was in the breakroom, fixing himself a cup of tea and expecting to be alone with his own thoughts when Peter came sneaking in.

"Good evening," Charles called out in a friendly tone, as he looked over from the table where he was steeping his tea. "Be careful of the machine on the left. I believe it's malfunctioning and will steal any bills you put in it."

It was very true, Charles had no ill intent when it came to Peter or anybody in Starktech at this time of night. Perhaps the way he shielded his mind might also be an effect but that was pure speculation.

"I'm sorry, I did not mean to surprise you," he smiled apologetically as he toyed with the teabag.

"I have to admit that, ah 'smacking it' had not occurred to me." Mostly because the vending machine didn't hold anything of culinary or caffeine like interest to the professor.

Charles could be a bit of a snob when it came to his tea and Erik had spoiled him for junk food.

"Though I like that term; 'impact calibration'." Charles offered, with a hint of an impish grin. He wondered if 'impact calibration' also assisted in times when exact change was not at hand.

"I've seen you around the labs, but we have not had the opportunity for a formal introduction? Professor Charles Xavier."

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Peter." Charles offered with an answering latenightconspiratorial grin.

"I do work with Tony on the Foundation, as well as some actual paying projects here at the Stark Tech," he wasn't a complete mooch. As for the institute, his expression sobers a little and he shakes his head.

"The Institute, here runs without my involvement. I understand that I helped found it, during a previous visit I can't remember, but when I returned I found it well managed by Professor Callaghan and his staff. So as not to disrupt the students, it seemed prudent to let things go on as they had."

He pulled the tea bag free of the mug and neatly tied it up before disposing of it on a napkin.

"May I ask what your contract with StarkTech entails?"

You have hit the Daily Double!

"I believe there might also be a portrait in there somewhere as well." Charles remarked, though he was smiling and more interested in Peter's unique way of getting the machine to give up it's good.

"I do see, though in my opinion they should give that stuff away for free," someone was a bit of a tea snob. He had his tea bags and hot water, thank you very much!

Listening to Peter's explanation his months of working at StarkTech allowed Charles to understand what the younger man meant by 'external cloud'. The picture he painted of Tony's generosity fit with the image of the man Charles had met upon his initial arrival in this world. Tony had definitely been generous and even supportive of ideas and innovation.

Not that he wasn't now but it was more like ... he didn't want to be bothered by the ideas and simply let them go ahead without remark because he was too focused elsewhere.

"'Future Foundation'. I'm afraid I hadn't the pleasure of having heard about it before now. The situation with the Russians broke open less than a month after my initial arrival. But it does sound like something Tony would want to support."

Really, it wasn't going to be a challenge at all. Tony felt ...good, about it. The Iron Spider Mark II was a piece of beautiful work. It was something he'd be proud to call his, so the fact that Peter had been so resistant was...frustrating. Compounded with the fact that he knew context -- somewhat -- but it had all been downloaded, information that had been passed from the him here into his memories -- something he'd been without back home -- it was like giving him memories, but no emotional connection.

Not, of course, that he wanted the emotional connection. How stupid, and messy.

"Peter!" he greeted, his voice friendly, when he saw him walk in. "Something new to report?"
liverletdie: (sᴜᴘᴇʀɪᴏʀ | I can't explain)

HAHA no worries!!! You are way on top of it!!

"Me?" he asked, and pressed a thumb to his chest, in mock offense. "You know what I can be like?" it was almost funny, or it would be, if Peter at all realized it. He didn't, so he just shook his head, before he sighed, heavily.

"In this, you'd be right. Let's hit one of the trucks out there, I haven't eaten since breakfast."

Which, let's be honest, was likely coffee and nothing else, anyway.

NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (i mean of course)

"The four?" he asked, a hand in pocket while they walked, shaking his head.

"Sadly, no. It's just what it seems -- a Calendar app. It's a groundwork for later StarkTech devices, but... right now it's going to look a little simpler, until the physical tech catches up," he admitted, with a wave of his hand. "Wait until I get a haptic display working, and we'll really be working."

Well, that was the plan, anyway, right?
