WHO: Flynn Scifo and anyone!
WHERE: all cities
WHEN: throughout September
WHAT: September catchall and starters
WARNINGS: none yet
01. he reads it for the articles, honest
[Maurtia Falls is enjoying its usual charming weather, the perfect kind of day to duck into the nearest shop and wait for the torrential rain to ease up a little. Convenience and practicality happen to overlap for Flynn in this case; there are a few thing that are easier to get from the store than the library. A cookbook is tucked under his elbow as he browses the fashion magazines with earnest focus, picking out two or three before he notices the section labelled "men's magazines." Well, these other ones are a little light on men's fashion, so...
If he notices anything odd about a men's fashion magazine very prominently featuring a lady model on the cover, it doesn't stop him from flipping through it curiously. It's pretty easy to tell exactly when the penny drops. He turns red all the way to his ears, closing the magazine quickly and trying to surreptitiously stuff it back in the rack while glancing around to see if anyone's noticed his clearly suspicious activities.]
02. how DO you herd cats
[Flynn is browsing the cat aisles of a pet store--every pet store, this is definitely not the first nor will it be the last--with the kind of urgent intensity of a detective scouring for clues at a crime scene, reading the instructions of anything whose purpose is not immediately apparent. When that fails to yield results, he drifts over to the nearest employee, or any imPort nearby who looks friendly and receptive enough.]
Excuse me. Do you know of anything that keeps cats from jumping up on things?
[The fact that no one so far has had an answer besides laughing is no object. There's nothing in the world impossible with a strong will.]
03. swords and sorcery (but mostly swords)
[None of the Porter cities are really ideal for undisturbed sword practice, but some are very slightly better than others. De Chima is an acceptable compromise between the overbearing energy of Nonah and the unforgivably lousy weather of Heropa. Flynn can be found in the park, patiently working through sword exercises. He's looking uncharacteristically clumsy today, but characteristically perfectionist, running through the same moves a few dozen times in a row. Every so often he stops and frowns, switching his sword back to his right hand and testing a swing again. It looks much, much smoother.]
((If you want something else or a specific starter, feel free to PM or hit me up on plurk @
pyrrhicly!))

Hey, what were you reading?
no subject
[HE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG. He'll just... open one of his other (nice, family-safe) magazines at random and shove it towards her.]
no subject
[Even though she works in a clothing store. She grabs the magazine, fumbles with it and shoots Flynn a dirty look]
What are you hiding?
no subject
[He's clearly pushing his magazines at her, how could that be considered hiding anything!]
no subject
[She'll just shove the magazine back at Flynn and try to step around him so she can see what he was looking at]

[He picks up the nearest safe magazine to hide in instead. Fine, sudden passion for gardening.]

I could have warned you that you weren't going to get much fashion out of something like that.

03.
But after contacting Flynn about those lessons, De Chima was where it was decided--because he had to agree. Heropa was just too hot for someone like him (overactive body heat made it horrible) and Nonah could get too noisy sometimes.]
Oi!
[It looks like he's made it there, spotting the man who he'd talked to on the feed only a little while ago. How time flies, right?]
I'm not late, am I? And here I was trying to be a good student!
no subject
I was just getting warmed up. You're not in trouble yet.
no subject
Breaks the trend, you know? I have a knack for getting in trouble.
[He smiles, setting his swords down from his back--a practice and a real one, should it come to that. He's been training with Kel in longswords...so...]
Didn't remember which you were good at so I just brought whatever I had.
[Displayed: Longsword, Katana, and practice.]
no subject
[Well, it's not his responsibility to arrest anyone here, so trouble sounds... maybe harmless?]
The longsword is what I use, but I should be able to give you some instruction in the katana, if that's what you wanted to learn.
no subject
He looks over the swords a moment, before he debates between em.]
Let's see how I do with the longsword first--if I pass, give me some tips on the katana.
Sound good?

It's why he looks a little surprised when the guy suddenly speaks up to him, and it makes him blink for a moment or two.. but at least he just answers the question even so. ]
Have you ever tried stopping cats from doing anything they want? Believe me, it's impossible. [ He knows that much and he's never even had a cat. But he's seen enough around with his kind of job. ]
no subject
[That's... a little demoralizing. But no, he can't give in that easily. Not with the cat infestation in the state it's at. He smiles his appreciation at this helpful stranger and tries a different tack.]
I admit I'm more of a dog person, so I'm not really sure about cats. Can't they be trained too? [Bribed? Coerced? Reasoned with?]
no subject
[ Because Hyunsoo sure doesn't think it's going to get better than that. Cats aren't as willing to just do whatever for a few pets or treats the way dogs are. Hyunsoo could know about the latter... ]
.. but you'd probably look like an idiot for talking to a cat. [ A LITTLE BLUNT.. but then again, it's the truth. At least he's warning Flynn in advance. ]
no subject
...A little. He's been talking to cats a little. At least there are no witnesses, yet.]
I see. That would be ridiculous, wouldn't it? [So ridiculous, he most certainly would not have done it.]
Although not as ridiculous as the Porter giving someone the ability to summon cats, but not to reason with them.
no subject
The last remark makes him blink a little in surprise though. ]
You mean it did that to you? [ Slowly his own power feels slightly less ridiculous.. but only slightly. ]
Just... [ He makes a vague kind of hand gesture, like he's imitating an explosion. ] Appearing out of nowhere like that?

So the fact that he happened to be in the same pet store as Flynn today was a little ... well, embarrassing wasn't the right word. Surprising? Especially when he approaches him.]
We have a cat in the house?
no subject
Even if Rita's conduct isn't, strictly speaking, his fault.]
We have... a lot of cats in the house. I'm sorry.
no subject
[He says it dismissively, and definitely without the reason that he doesn't mind them.]
I've never owned one, though, so I don't know the answer. I could try talking to them?
[And there it is... the reason. Well, sort of. He wasn't exactly specifying that he could talk to animals, after all.]
no subject
[He might have tried already. It was at least worth seeing if his emotional persuasion worked on animals, but alas.]
Still, if you can keep them off the counters somehow, that would be a help.
no subject
[He hates having to actually elaborate on his power, but since someone didn't seem to understand what he meant right off the bat— oh well.]
