we always start with good intentions
WHO: Josuke & Will
WHERE: Josuke's place
WHEN: early august
WHAT: Josuke wants to do law enforcement work so he put out a CraigsList ad for experienced tutors and some strange older man answered
WARNINGS: will update if needed
He dresses like nothing special; plaid shirt with sleeves rolled up to the elbows and old baggy jeans. The most special thing is what's in his hands as he waits, doorbell rung. Take-out, just as he said. A medley. Because he has no idea what Josuke is like and he's been conditioned by April to bring home a variety. So he has a bag with tacos and Chinese. He also holds a small pizza. Just standing, armed to the gills with take-out and terribly dangerous.
There's probably something deeply twisted about his taking this on. About him actually showing up. And he's recognized that. He's also not thought on it more past this is a little fucked. Because it doesn't matter. Josuke doesn't know Will's history, back home or here, and Will does, in fact, have the knowledge and experience necessary. Just because he went a little off the deep end, quite literally, doesn't negate the fact he knows his facts. That he can help. It's not like he's going to make sure Josuke succeeds just to start leaving him some fucked up murders to deal with. He's always enjoyed teaching more anyway.
And here he stands with food and a head full of what Josuke's craving. Which isn't brains.
This will be Fine.

Once they're inside, the front door closed behind them, Josuke holds his hands out to help alleviate Will of some of his food burden.
"You sure brought a lot for just us!" Though, if the smile on his face is any indication, Josuke's not complaining. "Smells great!"
He's not trying to peek inside the pizza box. He's not. Except he totally is.

Will nods in response, steps in when asked. He's not going to put up any fight about carrying the food, either. Though when Josuke totally is not trying to peek inside that pizza box, he finally shows some emotion beyond the usual first meeting pleasantries. He can't help but laugh, short but real, smile stuck in place for longer than usual. This kid will probably be the light of anywhere he works. Someone will find him obnoxious, sure, but that someone will probably be the designated asshole.
"Didn't know what you liked so I brought a bit of everything." What's left ends up on the kitchen table. Counter. The living room table, whatever, wherever he's been led, Will finds an appropriate flat surface and uses it. "And you'll have leftovers, too; never a bad thing."

"This is great, thanks!" Haise couldn't eat any of this, but chances are Brianna and Daenerys would find something among the selection to their liking.
He gets comfortable on the big ol' armchair, long legs crossing so he can nestle his plate in his lap. Something occurs to him then and, after swallowing a large and too-hot mouthful of his pizza and taking a few cooling gulps of air, he asks, "You thirsty at all? We got a ton of stuff in the fridge, I could grab you something and then we can get started."

Will stands awkwardly for a few moments after Josuke vanishes, looking around the room with one hand slightly outstretched. He's just walked into the friendliest tornado and isn't quite sure what to do about it. But he knows what's happening, or figures he does, so Josuke won't come back to him standing there dumbly. No, no, Will's moved to open boxes and basically lay things out nicely on the coffee table. Team work. It's important. Law enforcement requires it, for better or worse.
With less relaxed ease, Will perches on the edge of whatever's nearby, plucking up a plate and slice of pizza for himself. He doesn't seem too eager to dig in. He isn't starving enough to burn the hair off his tongue with speedy bites. That Josuke apparently is has him biting the inside of his cheek to keep from smiling.
"No, I'm fine." Not really but in this particular context, yes. It is not a lie. Just this once. "If you're thirsty, don't let me stop you."
He has the feeling that won't ever be an issue, but politeness demands.

Then, and only then, does he turn his attention proper to Will. He's grateful that the other man has agreed to help him prepare for the police academy, and even more grateful that Will appears to be an adult who thinks him more than some punk kid with material concerns. He'd like to keep it that way, too...which is why, now that they're both settled with their food and a way to hydrate when needed, he's inclined not to beat around the bush.
"So...application deadline's in December." He's got a lot of money to save to cover the various costs, but he's pretty certain he'll be able to afford it. The fitness exam will be a breeze for him, too, not to mention his background check and drug screening. What worries him the most are the interviews and psychological testing. He's been through a lot. He doesn't think it's enough to hurt his chances, but who's to say? There were...there were things that had happened in this world. Things he's mostly resolved, but not things he's ever spoken to a professional about. "You think I'm gonna be prepared by then, Mr Graham?"
Will's opinion matters to him. Because in Josuke's eyes, regardless of how much or little Will's been through, he's an adult who appears to have adjusted well to this world and who's got a good head on his shoulders. He doesn't want to waste the man's time.

That is one hell of a question. Will has to think about it; this is different from FBI, classes most people failed. The FBI was seeking those who could survive the program, even if meant times where no one passed. This isn't quite the same level of grueling and gruesome, but he's sure one thing holds true.
He puzzles over it visibly for a moment, takes a bite out of some pizza, and finally leans back in his seat like he's getting comfortable.
"Depends." Chew, chew, swallow. "How bad you want it?"

"School's always been a bit of a battle for me." He wasn't stupid, but he did have a poor attention span. Conventional learning environments just weren't for him. Still, with so much on the line, that kind of made his ability to perform under pressure even greater than usual. "I want this, though. Not just for me, but because this is one of the best ways I can protect people."
There weren't enough imPorts who were police or working closely with them, but there were a ton playing vigilante or putting on capes to play hero. Not that there was anything wrong with that, but...who was looking out for the little guys while the big bads and do-gooders were having their showdowns? Who was taking care of the small scale crimes? The shit that might not be biochemical warfare but was just as toxic to the well-being of everyone.
He picks a piece of pepperoni off his pizza and wiggles it around before popping it into his mouth.
"It'll be hard, I know that...but I'm kinda used to that, too. All the things worth holding onto in life or worth working towards are things you gotta fight for eventually."
no subject
Unfortunately, in some cases. There wasn't much in life worth holding onto that didn't kick back a time or two. Anything that came easy should be viewed with suspicion. Where was the catch? There had to be one. Put cannibals in the picture and that only amped things up, but they weren't here for Will. Oh no.
"I think you'll be as prepared as anybody. Might have something happen to disrupt that preparation, but that's part of life, too." Just usually isn't Russian invasions or abductions; more like losing jobs or car problem. Oh well. ImPorts are special, therefore they must have special problems. That's why they deserve all the pizza. "Did you wanna start today?"
no subject
Or as ready as he could ever be, anyway. He just really, really hoped that the 'something' in question wasn't another Neverland incident. And speaking of problems, remembering that time deserves another large bite of pizza before Josuke responds.
"Mm...don't got much time, right? And it's not like we can do this every day. We both got jobs and personal lives and...shit. I'm not even paying you for helping." And Will was the one who brought dinner. Now he feels like a mooch. "Ah, I guess...now's as good a time as any, s'what I'm trying to say. But you know, if there's ever a way I can repay you, just let me know, alright? 'Cause this means a lot."
