Jesse & Daisy
It's around dawn when he heads out to the garden, while Daisy's asleep and the grass is coated in dew. He works through the morning, clearing away weeds and dry leaves, discarding rotten produce and picking through what's left to make a decent meal. He'll turn over the soil later, get the garden back in working order. This simple clean-up takes him a couple of hours as it is.
When he finally returns to the cabin, he's covered in dirt and carrying a large basket of lettuce, tomatoes, radishes, berries, and peaches. Jesse moves as quietly as he can, in case Daisy's still sleeping, while he gets to washing up at the kitchen sink.]

With nothing to otherwise occupy her mind, it was hard to not fall into a deep dark pit of depression. At least when she was on the run from SHIELD she didn't have the time to really sit and think about everything she had done wrong. How Lincoln was never coming back and it was because of her, no matter what anyone else said, she couldn't see how it wasn't her fault.
She's awake when Jesse comes back in the house, despite his best efforts to be quiet. Laying in bed a bit longer, trying to ignore the fact that her throat is unbelievably dry, she finally gets out of bed and moves down to the kitchen. She notices him first, his back to her and he's completely covered in dirt. Noticing the basket soon after, Daisy breaks the silence:]
I don't think I've ever seen you eat a fruit or vegetable in my life.

[He glances over his shoulder, giving Daisy a small smile.]
It doesn't really matter what I eat. But I was thinking you could use something fresh. You'd be amazed, actually, what it does for you. You know, brain chemistry-wise. I saw this thing on the Discovery Channel once where this dude like totally cured his depression and like got sober just from eating raw vegetables.
[Though Jesse gives a light shrug, because he doesn't expect to see anything quite so dramatic happen after a single salad. He goes back to scrubbing the vegetables clean.]
no subject
The thought of eating nothing but raw vegetables sounds depressing.
[Oh look, humor. Bad humor.]
no subject
Okay, yeah. It really does. But so does eating beef jerky for three weeks.
no subject
More along the lines of my diet anyway.
[She knows he's trying, he's been trying. Daisy also knows she hasn't been making it easy on him, but that's because she isn't allowing herself to think she deserves any of this. Even now when he's trying to do everything in his power to make her feel otherwise.]
I hope you didn't spend the morning just doing this for my sake.
no subject
What else do I got going on? Besides, I like gardening. Actually.
no subject
[So much for the humor, now back to the regularly scheduled self-deprecating.]
no subject
[He won't be defeated.]

[Forcing herself to move, Daisy moves past him to grab a glass for the water, waiting until he's done with the tap to use it to fill her glass. The whole time she's not looking at him. Sometimes it's easier, to pretend he isn't there. Other times it's easier to realize that he is, right now it was the former.]
no subject
[Okay, not really. Joel probably wants to kill him by now. But neither of them are in mortal danger, whereas Jesse has no honest idea how badly Daisy might hurt herself if he leaves her for a single day. He'd tried to kill himself after Jane died, before he was institutionalized. For all he knows, Daisy's in the same frame of mind.]
no subject
[She isn't trying to start an argument, she's just trying to call him out on his lie.
Filling her glass, Daisy chugged the glass down before filling it again.]

They wanted time alone, they're getting time alone.

Jesse & Sarah
Twenty minutes later, he's pulling up outside Sarah's place. He has no intention of taking her up on the offer, not now, but he knows she must be in a terrible state if she's asking. And maybe it's too much for Jesse to take care of both of his girls at the same time, but by god, he'll try.
He taps the horn lightly to let her know he's waiting.]
no subject
Hey. Thanks for picking me up.
no subject
Is it okay if we go someplace, um... a little far out there? It's a safehouse of mine. I'm guarding somebody there and I wasn't supposed to leave.
[But clearly Sarah needed him.]
no subject
[ Not like she has anyone waiting up for her, anymore. Well, except for Chloe, but she's an adult. She can handle a night alone. ]
no subject
[That was easy. And after a porter trip and a drive through the deep dark woods, they're pulling up to the cabin. The only light that's on is the porch, which means Daisy's probably still sleeping. That's good news to Jesse as he gets out of the car and leads the way to the door.]
no subject
[ Sarah follows him to the door, her voice low to keep from waking whoever it is. ]
no subject
[No sense in keeping it secret when they might run into each other.]
She's, um... She's been having a rough time with things. I just been looking out for her while she gets better.
[Which, Sarah might gather, is also his intention with her. Since Daisy's sleeping upstairs, Jesse leads Sarah to the bedroom on the ground floor and turns on the light. The decor's spartan, but it's comfortable enough, should Sarah decide to stay over. Once they're both in the room, he locks the door behind them.]
no subject
[ Sarah has gotten the impression that Jesse isn't as into the hookup as he'd seemed over text, but when he locks the door behind them, she can't help but take it as a good sign. Even if his girlfriend (or... whatever she is; Sarah can barely keep a handle on her own relationships, much less everyone else's) is asleep upstairs. ]
no subject
[To answer the unspoken question and just get it all out there. Sarah's right: He's not into this hookup. It's an awful time and an awful place. Not that it means he'll deny her.]
no subject
Will she be pissed you brought me here?
no subject
Maybe. But it's my house, not hers.
[And Jesse can't play favorites when his loved ones are in distress.]
no subject
I— [ Except she doesn't know what to say after that, either. ]
