Heropa and Nonah, out'n'about
[In the run-up to the school year starting again, Fuu wants to get in as much of her actual job as she can... that is, writing video game reviews for a man who takes editing a teen entertainment magazine way more seriously than any one person possibly should.

So she's wandering around the arcades (the lovely air-conditioned arcades) and outside; if you're at a game or playing a game or if you're even concentrating on your phone a little too hard, you might find her looking over your shoulder.]

At the beach

[August is a time for swimming! Or, if you're Fuu, finding some less crowded areas of Florida beach to do a little magic practice. Today she's seeing how much sand she can pick up with her Binding Winds spell and how fine a blade she can shape with her Emerald Typhoon. Though keeping in mind the setting, she keeps it more to an Emerald Light Breeze.

She notices that even modest displays of magic seem to be clearing the beach more than they ought, and sighs at the suspicious looks being aimed at her. This hadn't happened in June.]

Oh dear. It seems I'm still being viewed as a witch.

It's not easy being green (St. Walker)

[Well, it's been a couple of months now since that incident where people were living out altered lives. That's long enough for it not to be so awkward anymore, right?

So she'll head over to Walker's house and ring the doorbell--she's got a few treats that the woman at the animal rehab place told her would suit an opossum, and for Walker himself, some tea. ~~Earl Grey. Hot.~~

[Fuu has to watch for a second because well. That can't be right, can it? But she recovers herself after a second.]

Oh, did you want something to eat first? I can show you where we keep things in the kitchen.

[surely he must have meant to do that, right... no?]

[RecovERING QUICKLY, Ryoga smiled. ]

That... would be great. I haven't eaten anything all morning.

[Dammit, he was going to get used to this house's labyrinthine, Escheresque layout if it was the last thing he did.]

[A SERIOUS CASE. Fuu goes along with the idea that He Meant To Do That.]

What do you like? I've figured out how to make perfect egg salad at sea level so we have some of that... also tuna, chicken, and raw vegetables.

Egg salad? Oh, no.

[Ryoga opened the refrigerator to find the chicken and vegetables.]

I couldn't have you go to all the trouble. Since I'm the one imposing on you, please allow me to cook a quick dish!

[Although Ryoga was terrible at finding landmarks, he was pretty decent at finding his way around a kitchen. He'd grabbed the ingredients necessary for a light stir fry.]

[...well if he's going to insist on making a stir fry Fuu won't stop him, might as well see if it's good?]

Oh--well, if you insist! Roaming around as you do, I suppose it's natural that you've learned to cook.

[And in fact, Ryoga actually seemed pretty good at this kind of thing -- at least way better than one would expect a teenage boy from the 90s or so to be. He tossed the ingredients in the pan with a deft hand, and soon the kitchen was feeling with the tempting smell of cooking food.]

It's more or less a necessity if you're out in the wilderness. If you don't want to get stuck eating things raw, that is. I suppose as long as I'm here, I ought to pick up a field guide to mushrooms and the like...

[Because he knew what was okay to eat in Japan, but this wasn't Japan. Didn't want to poison himself by accident, hahahaha...]

[Fuu watches with interest. What with Mokona, she, Hikaru, and Umi never actually had to earn any more cooking than they already knew.]

That would be a good idea--and a field guide to what sort of dangerous animals to watch out for. Florida's open spaces can be a little wild. [She smiles.] I'll be happy to take you to the bookstore tomorrow, if you like.

What? Oh, er.... I'll be in your care, then.

[That's right, didn't Florida have alligators or crocodiles or something? Well, Ryoga could just beat them up if they showed, it was probably fine. He plated two helpings of the dish, then offered the first to Fuu.]

Here you are. Are you sure it won't interfere with your homework?

[Alligators, crocodiles, and Florida Man. NOT TO BE TRAVELED LIGHTLY.]

Oh, it looks delicious! Thank you very much. [She takes the plate and tries a bite.] It lives up to its appearance.

It won't interfere. [she still puts off her homework till evening she is a terrible student] Survival is a little more important than looking for symbolism in old books.

[It was nice to receive a compliment on his cooking! Ryoga smiled.]

Thank you. I hope to pull my weight around here.

[Now, Fuu, you shouldn't put off your homework unless of course someone challenges you to a duel, in which case it was totally okay.]

You sound as though you speak from experience. Are you in a mountaineering club or something?

You're pulling your weight already.

Sort of. I've done a lot of traveling on foot, though I admit my friends and I were well-provisioned... we didn't have to decide if a mushroom was dinner or death.

Nothing to toughen your stomach up like making a wrong guess, that's for sure. One thing I do miss about it is getting to look at the stars without all the city lights.

Oh yes, but only so long as you survive being wrong. [His comment about the stars gets a more sincere response, though.] I grew up in a city, so I haven't been able to see the stars as well as I'd like. It must be beautiful to view them from the wilderness.

Yes... I suppose it is. A little melancholy, though.

[Usually, when he had time to look up at the stars, he also had time to reflect on how he was totally, completely lost.]

You should take a camping trip sometime. If you're not already sick of walking, that is.

A camping trip would be nice, I think. [she's not sure if her journey across Cephiro entirely qualifies as roughing it, given that they slept every night in an egg-shaped motel courtesy of Mokona, but she recalls the night sky being quite lovely before it turned to storms.] School starts again soon, but perhaps during one of the vacation weekends.

[Ryoga put down his plate and placed it neatly in the sink.] School... right.

[Not that he technically needed a diploma to be a martial artist, but HE WONDERED HOW THEY'D TAKE EXTENDED ABSENCES.]

Well, er, guess I should... head up to my room...
