OPEN LOG; like the scent of fresh lemon

It's July! It's summer! Cass didn't do much for Independence Day because of the gala, but there are still some red-white-and-blue options for anybody more patriotically inclined. However, Cass' main focus this month?

Lemons.

There will be a collection of new lemon treats! Also, lemonade drinks and lemon-flavored shaved ice, advertised along with Wendy's lumberjack-themed shaved ice treat. It has syrup laid on in plaid patterns! And also chocolate shaped like axes! It's delicious and chilly!

Also, July happens to be the same Wendy's birthday month, which Cass doesn't address blatantly but also definitely hints at in a less-than-subtle manner. Day by day, there are more Wendy-themed decorations around the café. Like a sudden influx of patterned napkins. Wooden coasters. She even got a new clock; it's wood. Also, there are log-shaped cushions on some chairs now. Don't let Cass on Pinterest.

Last but not least, the Lucky Cat Café phone app has been launched!! Feel free to have your character come in for their one free drink for downloading the app. Also, your every eleventh drink is free if you sign up and let the cashier scan your comm at purchase. ]

Employee (sorta, not really)

[ Sasaki isn't exactly an employee. He is someone who shows up and tinkera around the kitchen, specifically, he makes latte art. Cute latte art, drawn or poured. And his coffee is also amazing (coffee is literally the only thing Sasaki can drink, so of course it makes sense he is such a coffee gourmet). besides hot coffee and playing around with foam, he also makes all sort of coffee drinks, from coffee with whipped cream to even alcohol.

Just call him over or watch him as he prepares an espresso with a cute panda face on it.

When he isn't around the coffee machine, you can find him serving tables or cleaning up after clients left. After all, he helps around the Café as he can and doesn't have a specific job there. ]

Time-off

[ When he isn't working, Sasaki may be found sitting on a table drinking coffee himself while he reads; this time, the book is called "The Little Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry; it's a popular book and he certainly has read it before, but he really enjoys re-reading it when he can. At the table he has a cup of iced-coffee which he sips from, from time to time.

Though he seems busy, Sasaki is ready for a chat and would welcome anyone to sit down with him. ]

[Cass doting on her employees, especially the younger ones, is an everyday occurrence. There's no such thing as "uncomfortable" when it comes to her and her relationships, so everybody gets treated the same, and everybody receives her attention. Just sometimes, there are people she knows returns her affection and Sasaki is one of them. Her interactions with him are much less reserved because she knows he's not reserved about them in return.

Like now, during one of his breaks while he's reading his book, Cass is still working but she passes by and pauses there to give his hair a gentle ruffle.]

[ when sasaki feels a hand touching his head, his eyes peel away from the book and turn to Cass, whom he meets with a smile. he already expected it to be her. Only one other person would do this and he wasn't at the café. ]

Hey-

do you need help with anything?

Not immediately. Just wanted to check on you.

[She smiles back and ruffles his hair again, but not so much that it gets messed up. She's not cautious but still gentle with him and even pats down what hair she did dislodge.]

How're you doing?

[ he doesn't mind the hair, after all it already looks like a bird's nest.

He smiles instead, closing the book after ]

I'm good. I've the day off, so I decided to enjoy myself for a bit. And catching up on my reading.

[Bird nest hair is the best hair. If she were on an actual break, she may just keep playing with it.]

Well, I'm honored that you'll come here for your precious days off. What're you reading today?

I always come here during my days off. And I'm reading "We Need to Talk About Kevin" by Lionel Shriver. It's a bit dark... [ he isn't sure if Cass wants to hear about it ]

So! How are the new treata going? Popular?

[You bet she will.]

It sounds ominous. That's a talk about Kevin I don't think people want to have, [she comments, lightly. She would listen if Sasaki wants to talk about it, but she leans over to peer briefly at his book before she's distracted by his question.]

Sure are! Especially with how hot it is, people are enjoying Wendy's new shaved ice treat. It suits her, doesn't it? All that plaid...

It's a novel about a sociopath, and it focus specifically on his mother. Nature versus nurture. [ that's the quick synopsis of it. If Cass wants, he can give her a tl;dr version too! ]

I'm glad it's going well. They look delicious. [ honestly? No food looks delicious to him, but Sasaki usually follows general opinion when it comes to food.]

Your Cafe keeps getting popular, now with the app and all.

[Cass doesn't look disinterested. She does scrunch her face in a thoughtful way where she's seriously considering this, wondering if it's something she'd pick up. Probably, if it was nearby. But she can say for certain it wouldn't be an immediate choice off the shelves. It's so Sasaki, though.]

It's easy, friendly, and so many people have friends working here. I'm just glad it's somewhere people can go to... even one is a good number of places to have.

Well, it's a place imPorts find safe. And free of nagging journalists, at least. [ he smiles, glancing around for a moment ]

You did something great, Cass.

[ Haen was grateful that Cass had let her come back to work here once she'd returned from her Porter-enforced hiatus. The atmosphere of the Lucky Cat was one that she worked well in, and it gave her the opportunity to meet a never-ending stream of new people.

Of course, this meant that a wider range of people were often the target of her infamous long-winded and highly random chatter fests. Anything from a piece of clothing, to a book peeking out of someone's bag, is enough to set her onto one of her tangents.

But in between, she does actually remember to take and deliver orders to the tables. Usually. ]

[ Miles is here pretty much every day, ordering some ridiculous drink or another. Mostly this goes well enough; some days, though, he has a minor allergic reaction. Like today. He's got a small pink rash on his neck courtesy of whatever abomination he just ordered. With a faint sigh, he returns to the counter to order some water - and brighten when he sees her. ]

Haen! You work here now?

Oh, I worked here before, dear. Cass was kind enough to show me the ropes, as it were, even though there's really no ropes involved, that would make working here quite a bit more interesting. Can you imagine suspension tables and swinging servers, though not really conducive to hot beverages!

[ She frowns at the mostly-full cup being returned, and then at him, noting the rash. ]

Speaking of, you didn't spill it on yourself, did you? That's quite a trick to get it on your neck, if you did.

I admit I would come here more often if there were,

[ Lies. He's here every day no matter what. He slaps a hand to his neck self-consciously - and grimaces, lightly. ]

Ah ... I'm having a bit of a reaction, aren't I. Must be something I drank.

[ She laughs. ]

Truth be told, I think I'd come here more often too.

That doesn't look comfortable at all. Would you like me to fix that, dear?

... Could you? I'd be very grateful. A few days without allergies would be very nice.

Oh silly, I can do anything I put my mind to, and besides, you look like you had a bad run in with a scratchy bush.

[ She comes around the counter and guides him off to the side, just so he's not tying up the customer line. Laying a cool hand on the side of his neck, and doing a quick genetic search for whatever is causing the reaction. Finding it, she rewrites the cellular code, and the rash abates a half minute later. ]

[ What a wonderful relief that is. Even a shot of normal healing magic would have had trouble clearing up that particular spot of red, but under Haen's hand, it fades away instantly. With a sigh of relief, he murmurs: ]

You are an utter treasure, you know that?

[ This universe has been one adjustment after another. First there was the housemates. Then, there was the job, (which was and still is bizarre, but pays enough, so whatever). But the hardest part is getting used to actually acting like he has a mortal body.

Eating is the biggest thing he needs to get used to again. Sleeping, less so, because it was enjoyable, even in the Moon Cell, but is now an actual necessity. If he goes without either for too long, it starts to become physically painful, like his body knows he should be a Servant, and keeps struggling to get back there even though he can't. This must have been what it was like for Saber, all those years ago. Coffee has become a fixture in the waking hours of the day, a short walk down to one of the cafes nearby work. It's pretty normal.

The bizarre grating sound of something going wrong in one of the blenders is not. He watches the woman behind the counter shut the device off quickly, and swap it over to the other with a grimace, before finally handing off the... smoothie to the customer in front of him in line.

his turn! time to order a coffee... or, you know, say the first thing that comes to mind instead, whatever. ]

It sounds like the bearings around the coupler shaft are out of alignment. [ a brief pause, until he realizes, wait, there's no context, oops. cue a short gesture in the direction of the seemingly doomed blender. ] On the motor, I mean.

[ :)!! see, not that big of a problem.

(he forgot the coffee.) ]

[What.]

[Cass had just prepared herself to smile and brush off the broken blender to take the new customer's order when what comes out of his mouth is anything but an order, and she has to stare. It takes her a moment to figure out what he's saying, because she's not used to hearing things like that from anybody but Tadashi.]

...

[Oh.] Oh! You mean the blender?

[ he patiently waits for her to process and acknowledge what he's saying, a small smile playing across his face, because he's a poorly adjusted idiot who has fun messing with people (yet at the same time, can't help but try to help them too...) ]

Yeah. It's not unfixable, either. Just take the bottom plates off, readjust the bearings, and it'll basically be good as new.

[Cass is about to really start thinking about this, before she comes to a halt.]

Ooh, I can do that later! First, you! Did you have anything you wanted to order?

Mm — just coffee, the largest size you have. [ ONE LAST PIECE OF ADVICE, i promise, maybe. micromanaging these things is important, safety first, manners second! ]

And don't forget to unplug it when you go to fix it.

(wendy couldn't lie, walking into work everyday, and seeing it grow just that little bit more lumberjack decorations in the store as the month goes on. the coasters and napkins made her smile on her way in everyday, but once she upgraded to he log cushions and wooden clock, wendy chuckles a little to herself every time she enters the cafe. it's just. nice. to have subtle little reminders that your boss cares about you, wants to make the place feel a little more homey for you. sorry, stan pines, but miss cass is easily the better boss here.

wendy doesn't notice the month roll by so quickly. her lumberjack special was a great hit, plus all the cute, yummy new lemon treats had her hooked. really badly. cass is the shining example of a perfect, capable adult. in almost no time at all, it's already the 26th, and wendy walks into work just realizing this fact. she's by no means upset to be working on her birthday, it's actually enjoyable. her coworkers are chill, and cass is the absolutely best.

and. well. maybe she should thank her for that. she looks around for cass on her break.) Hey, Miss Cass. Thanks for decorating the shop like this, it's really cool of you.

(she's only got a couple more hours on her shift, and then after this, she'll probably go chill with some friends. maybe cause some trouble, do a little graffiti, run from some cops. it's not. quite the same as back home, but hey, if a girl has to have a sweet sixteen, at least it's on another planet with a whole bunch of superpowered weirdos she can call awesome friends.

speaking of awesome friend. when she sees junpei walk into the cafe, she waves him over, leaning on the counter with a grin.) Sup, dude. Your usual?

[Cass is not difficult to find by any means. She's there, sitting behind the counter with what looks like a sewing project she's just finishing up, and she looks up with a ready smile as Wendy approaches.]

It's my pleasure, Wendy. I hope I got them looking right! How are you today?

(wendy is fully convinced there isn't anything this woman can't do, and she's pretty sure she found someone to actually look up to. in a good way, sorry, manly dan.) Good so far. I'm gonna grab some friends and maybe graffiti my walls tonight. Apparently, there's gonna be a cake the size of my room. But yeah, the... nice little reminders over the month have been nice. And not super obvious.
