WHO: Ted Kord and whoever else!
WHERE: De Chima, mostly, but other Porter cities, as needed.
WHEN: The whole month of July
WHAT: Catch-all! All prompts in the post are OTA, but if you want a specific starter, hit me up at
rathaway and we can figure something out!
WARNINGS: None yet.
De Chima - Starrware
[ Ted's been spending longer hours at work the past several weeks, barely remembering to leave his workshop to grab lunch, or even dinner, when he stays late enough. Anyone who stops by can't miss the large blue aircraft he's finishing the paint job on, or the smaller hoverbike that is similarly beetle-themed, its engine spread out in parts across a workbench. Or, if someone spots him on the rare occasion that he does step out to get lunch, he's distracted pouring over blueprints and notes while he absentmindedly stuffs a sandwich in his mouth. ]
De Chima - A Mugging?
[ He'd lost track of time at work again, leaving himself stuck walking home late. He doesn't usually mind the walk home from work, but it's a very different walk at night when it's pouring down with all the torrential downpouring a late summer night in Virginia has to offer. He ducks into an alley, hoping to take a shortcut home, and doesn't notice when someone follows him in until it's too late. Some kid, probably 19 or 20 at the oldest, corners him with a knife and demands the contents of his wallet and briefcase. ]
Oh no, help me, I'm being mugged. Oh no. Oh god.
[ He couldn't sound more deadpan or less concerned if he tried. Maybe someone will still see and help out, one way or another, before this kid has to deal with the shame of getting beat up by a slightly overweight 40 year old engineer wearing a novelty tie.]
Heropa - Dog Days
[ On the rare day Ted does take a day off, he usually spends the time with his dog. Today is no exception, save for the fact that he's down in Heropa, soaking up the hot summer sun and tossing a grimy looking tennis ball around one of the local dog parks for BB to chase. Of course, BB's still a puppy, and easily distracted by any and all passersby, especially if they wander close enough to the fence of the park carrying anything that might resemble food. ]

Calendar Man
Suited up as the Blue Beetle, Ted has no trouble convincing the guards watching over Julian's room to let him in. He takes a moment before heading in to think about how Bruce would handle this, and then immediately discards the idea. Whatever parallels one could draw between them, Ted doesn't actually have any interest in being Batman, despite taking an interest in this particular foe of his. But still, he draws himself up to full height, and enters to find Julian handcuffed to a hospital bed. ]
So. Did you have fun?
no subject
Julian had also been shot in his gluteus maximus, as it were, so he's partially suspended to keep from lying on it. It is not very dignified. He looks a bit worse for wear.
He raises an eyebrow. ] Blue Beetle. An unexpected surprise. I met your protégé.
no subject
Yeah, I saw the news footage of him flying you around. I was a little preoccupied keeping people from trampling each other to death trying to get out of the museum as it came down around our heads. Next time, could you stick to something outdoors?
no subject
[ Julian, through the haze of painkillers, thinks about how he'll be out in time for Halloween. Trick or Treaters. Everyone out on the streets. ]
Outdoors. Of course. I'll make sure of it.
no subject
[ He pulls a chair up to the side of Julian's bed and takes a seat. ]
Whose idea was it to let you off parole three weeks before the biggest summer holiday, anyway? The fact that that's a bad idea is right there in your name.
no subject
There will always be another holiday. Even if I have to resort to Bastille Day. Should you lock me up forever?
no subject
[ He pauses, considering something. ]
Do they even celebrate Bastille Day here? I can't say I've read up on the differences in French history in this world.
no subject
[ He's more concerned with American holidays, but he'll definitely look it up after this just to make sure. ]
no subject
[ He leans back in his chair, glancing around the room. At least there aren't any calendars nearby, though whether that's normal for the hospital, or someone had the bright idea to remove them, he couldn't say. ]
So how long are they locking you up for this time?
no subject
August 5th. And then parole until the fifth again. This time in October.
THE MUGGING
[Then, he stops short of doing absolutely anything to the mugger. Instead, he just waves cheerfully at Ted and chirps,] Oh, hi, Ted!
[The mugger doesn't know what to do. He glances behind him, terrified, seeing only a giant bug hovering in mid-air, waving enthusiastically with a big smile on his face.
This is not how superheroes are supposed to look.]
no subject
Jai— Beetle! Good to see you. How's your night going?
no subject
[Jaime, don't riff off of how the first syllable of your name sounds like hi.
Jaime, don't giggle while the mugger is right there. That poor an has no idea what's happening, and is, in fact, starting to look too confused to actually fight back.]
It's going pretty good! I mean, I was gonna help people with whatever they needed help with, but... oh. [He addresses the mugger.] You should probably give up.
no subject
Well, no sense in stopping that on my account. I think I've probably got this under control.
[ The mugger backs away a few feet, then turns to start to run, but before he can get too far, Ted throws his briefcase at him, hitting him square in the back of the head and dropping him. ]
Unless you wanna fly this guy towards the De Chima PD?
no subject
[He flutters towards him, hovering above him like a particularly large and irritating moth before saying,] Wait, wait, I've always wanted to try this.
[He holds one hand out, and the knife floats up and out of the mugger's hand, into the air. Jaime can see where and how it's being held up, but he's perfectly aware Ted can't, so he grins at him and says,] Magnets!
[Jaime reaches out and grabs the knife before crumpling it, making sure that the tip can no longer be used, and tucking it underneath his armpit before picking the guy up.] Anyway, I can do that. You wanna come, or should I just go for it?
dog park, why not
Hmm.
Close inspection will reveal a collar and jingly tag around his neck, but there's no real need for that; his owner's hustling forward already, progress hindered slightly by the skirt swishing around her legs. ]
Hayate!
[ Give her a moment. ]
no subject
Ted, for his part, just laughs at the puppy antics. ]
I take it that's yours?
no subject
It's enough to make Riza sigh, though the relaxed set to her shoulders seems to imply she isn't too put out by this turn of events. ]
Yes, he's mine. He hasn't had much canine company the past few days and got overexcited.
no subject
Well, BB certainly doesn't mind the playmate. That's the whole point of a dog park, right?
no subject
[ Or any, actually but that's besides the point. Now that Hayate seems to have made a new friend here, it seems prudent to do a cursory round of introduction. And some extra training, while they're at it. Her voice notches up an octave, ringing out clear. ]
Hayate, sit! [ The tail wagging stops, haunches thumping down. ] Shake.
[ One paw lifts up, expectant. ]
no subject
Nice to meet you, Hayate. I'm Ted.
