A. Shopping district at _______
[ Spock has been visiting several stores lately throughout the various cities, De Chima, Heropa, etc. attempting to find parts suitable for building some tech that's wholly accesable back at his home reality but is rather painfully absent here in this reality.

Mainly frequenting electronics and construction businesses, he's just coming out of one such store when the door momentarily blocks his line of sight, causing him to bump into [you]. The items he's holding threaten to tip out of his arms, but with some semi-awkward maneuvering where he avoids bumping into more (or the same) innocent bystanders, he manages to save his purchases before the land on the ground. ]

My apologies, [ he intones once his items are stable, his diction formal-sounding. Probably the odder thing about him than his manner of speech is his appearance: layers of long-sleeved dark clothing even in this summer heat, slanted eyebrows under bowl-cut bangs, and elf-like pointed ears. And if you're looking really closely, his skin has a light green tinge to it. ]


B. De Chima / near DC#3
[ In the public park near the De Chima government housing, Spock has set himself up in an area slightly off the beaten paths in order to practice with his cryokinesis. Anyone passing by will get to see he fruits of his labor: various objects (some plants and other organic matter from the park, some electronic pieces from the mess that is the DC#3 common room, bowls of liquids that look to be of differing consistency, etc. ) are now covered in ice. There are a couple different piles, the farthest pile already halfway thawed out in the Virginia summer heat.

He looks to be concentrating as he picks up the next object, but the sounds of someone approaching cause him to turn his gaze towards [you]. ]

[ With DC #7 blown up (and put back together) and the Vors preparing to move, Miles hasn't been around too much. When he does pass by DC #3, it's only really with the intention of going to gather up some of his miscellaneous items. He doesn't intend to visit ... until he spots Spock in the park, surrounded by frozen piles of stuff.

Well. That's certainly worth investigating. ]

[ Cadel was on his way in while Spock was on his way out, and he can probably be forgiven for overlooking him on the basis of Cadel being a small thirteen-year-old. He has a sweet face, nearly angelic brown curls, and a smoothly polished Australian accent. ]

That's alright. ... You must be an imPort, right? [ That much is obvious. Cadel hikes the strap of his backpack up one shoulder a little higher. ] Trying to figure out the local tech?

[The little boy Spock ran into looks up at him from... an odd angle, mostly because he paused in the middle of a dive to catch anything the poor man dropped, only to realize that the stranger had a better grip on his belongings than he anticipated. It takes him a second to straighten himself out, smiling politely but sheepishly.]

Oh, it's okay. I'm sorry, too. I shouldn't have been so close to the door.

Are you okay?

[ After glancing at Miles' approach, Spock glances back at his piles of iced items, silently acknowledging what caught Miles' interest. ]

Affirmative, Lord Vorkosigan. As the effect of this particular ability of mine has be troublesome indoors, I elected to practice my use of this ability here.

[ While he has to look down to look directly at Cadel, there's no trace of anything demeaning or patronizing at the fact that he's talking to someone so much younger. Only formal speech as if he's talking to an equal who just happens to be shorter. ]

Affirmative, but only to your former question – my designation upon arrival here is that of an imPort.

Logical of you. Safer too, I'd imagine. Better to injure a plant than a dog ...

[ What's with running into all these short people today, jeez. Spock corrects his line of sight to politely look down at the person speaking, but one of those slanted eyebrows quirks higher than the other at the odd angle Ken has taken. It relaxes back into his normal bland expression once he straightens though. ]

I suffered no harm from our minor collision, though I may ask the same of you.

That was my conclusion as well. Though given the possibility that my abilities may at some point be unavoidably necessary against a sentient species, in situations such as those you recently encountered, this location is optimum for encountering small, deceased organisms with which to test the effects on more complex organic matter.

[ Miles ... blinks a bit at that. Trying to parse what Spock means. ]

Are you freezing dead birds?

[ Yep, Miles interpreted it right. Spock's expression remains neutral as he confirms. ]

I have yet to encounter any, though small rodents such as mice or squirrels would also be appropriate.

[Jim was actually on his way to DC #3 to show up early for their agreed-upon time for a meditation session--hell he could think of things to do if Spock told him he showed up too early...

Though he's saved from that when colors that don't quite jive with the landscape stick out in the corner of his eye.

He approaches and looks at all the stuff that's half-frozen still.]

That's. Er. Practical. If a bit morbid ...

Yet a necessary step to avoid accidental injury, if such is possible with these abilities.

No, no, I completely understand. I wish there were an easier way though.

[ His expression hints at a frown as he glances at Jim approaching. He doesn't comment or answer his question – the answer is more than obvious from the evidence around him. ]

Our agreed upon time for telepathy instruction is not for another 41 minutes.

As do I, but the technology to properly gauge and monitor this power is lacking in this reality.

... What would you need? Theoretically.

[ he starts to help the other man steady his purchases, but jerks his hands back when he realizes that.. he doesn't seem to need mahanon's help? that was actually pretty impressive. ]

Oh-- No, it's-- [ a glance up, a ready smile on his lips, only to pause in surprise at the ears. they're not nearly as dramatic as mahanon's own, of course, but they're not human, which is the important thing here.

remembering his first conversation with miles, his small smile returns. ] .. You wouldn't happen to be Spock, would you? [ he's not sure how good the odds are. miles had said he only knew of two elf-like people in this world, but that doesn't necessarily mean there aren't more, after all. though mahanon certainly hasn't seen them, if so. ]

At minimum, a device not unlike a simple standard-issue Starfleet handheld scanner. It would be sensitive enough to detect the changes throughout my own body as well as monitor changes in an object on several different scales of observation.

[ He suddenly does that slight head-tilting motion. ] Are you implying the possibility of constructing a similar device in this reality?

Of course I am. If you have the technical expertise, then surely the alchemist could craft the required components.

[ Spock's light surprise at hearing his name from someone he hasn't encountered yet bring his full attention on Mahanon, his head tilting just slightly sideways in curiosity. ]

[ But Spock pauses momentarily, quickly considering the components of a scanner. ] ... Such may actually be possible.

Elric and Mustang both, but yes. And Miss Rockbell is quite good with figuring things out as well ...

I have yet to be acquainted with Colonel Mustang, though Captain Kirk has spoken of him briefly. And while Miss Rockbell is certainly talented, I am uncertain if she would have the expertise to construct a device originating several centuries beyond her.
