Backdated May Shenanigans
WHO: Kagari, Kogami, others TBD
WHERE: Various, starting out in MF6
WHEN: May
WHAT: Various prompts, starting with Kagari cooking for a blind date.
WARNINGS: Nothin.
Continued from this inbox thread.
[Oh of course he barely has anything useful. Well okay whatever, if its the right kind of bread he can make garlic bread. Fruits and whipped cream was fine for a desert and really easy to make, he should be fine as long as its not like apples or watermelon. He's got bacon and hopefully some of that 'frozen stuff' will be peas for his pasta, and as for an actual side dish he just grabs some vegetables. He'll do...something.
All the things he needed, (including a whisk and some good knives just in case Kogami didn't have any), shoved haphazardly into a paper back left over from his shopping the other day he books it over from his house to Kogami's. It's only like a 45 second trip, which he's thankful for. He's on the clock here. He does not bother knocking, just phases through the door. He's on a mission here.
He gets to the kitchen quickly and starts laying things out.]

But since he doesn't have to actually let Kagari in the door he basically just follows him toward the kitchen, leaning against one of the counters as he watches the younger man do his thing.]
So how much candy am I going to owe you for this, huh?
warning: i can't cook for shit so this is ?????
[He's already got the bacon frying in a pan, and a pot of water on the stove. Now he's adding things to a large mixing bowl quickly. He doesn't have time to separate the yolks but that's not necessary exactly. He also doesn't have the best kinds of cheeses for this sauce either but it'll have to do.]
Slightly less than all of it if you grate this cheese. And where is the pasta you said you had?
[He really hope's it's not angel hair or bow ties or something. It's pretty unlikely that Kogami bought anything other than just the most generic pasta possible though, so he's not that worried.]
tis ok, this is why google is our friend
It's in the pantry.
[He points toward the right shelf before he starts looking through the drawers for the grater. Which he uh. Is definitely holding upside down after he finds it. This is the man who scored 720 points on the aptitude exam, Kagari. You're welcome.]

And the-[Holy shit dude you can't be serious. Kagari bursts out laughing.] Ko-chan you are hopeless. That's upside down.
[He could go show him how to use it. He should go show him how to use it. But honestly he really wants to know if Kogami can find more ways to screw this up.]

Kogami huffs and turns the grater the right way around when Kagari starts laughing; he'd probably tease too, if the positions were reversed, but still :V Life is hard when you're used to all your food just being provided for you and suddenly it no longer is.
Oh yeah, and guess what? He still hasn't figured it out. In fact, he's...trying to push the cheese inside, like one would with paper for a paper shredder. Things that will end well: not this.]
no subject
Nooo~ I believe in you Ko-chan. You can figure this out.
[He's holding a block of cheese, and a metal surface with a bunch of blades on it. 2 + 2 = ???]
The goal is to make smaller pieces of cheese.

[Gosh, he's actually getting a bit flustered now. He puts both the cheese and the grater down, then stares at them for a moment before he picks the grater back up and starts dragging it along the surface of the cheese like if he were peeling a potato.
P...rogress?]
no subject
Alright, close enough.
[He had the general idea anyway. Kagari walks over, take the cheese and the grater and shows him how to use it the right way. See? Easy.]
Now just do that until you have a bunch of cheese.
[He goes to check the water. Not boiling quite yet. He flips the strips of bacon, then gets started on peeling and chopping garlic.]
no subject
Right, so, that's done. What now?
no subject
[He's about to turn away and start mincing the garlic himself when he realizes he's forgotten something. He spins on his heel and grabs a large spoon from a nearby drawer and brandishes it at Kogami.]
Here! With this.
[Given Kogami's previous incompetence he was slighly worried that the detective might just try to do it with his hands unless otherwise instructed. Then there's a sudden sharp hissing, and Kagari looks around to see the water boiling over on his pasta pot. With a mumbled shit he goes to take the lid off, lowers the heat just a smidge and adds the pasta. Now while they're waiting for that to cook, he can do the garlic. Okay. Cooking with time pressure is not how he's used to doing things, but it's actually kind of fun. He's thinking a few steps ahead now and it's feeling a lot more...competitive than normal cooking.]

Still stirring, he looks up to see Kagari rushing over, multitasking all those things at once. It's a little like those video games he plays with him sometimes, which might explain why the younger Enforcer likes it so much, honestly.
(One of these days, Kagari will discover Cooking Shows and his life will be complete, obviously)
Kogami finishes stirring in the cheese, and then he holds out the bowl for Kagari to inspect.]
This look about right?
no subject
Yep, perfect!
[He (hypocritically) sticks a finger into the mixture and tastes it quickly. Hmm. Needs salt. He bustles around, failing to give Kogami a task for a few long moments before suddenly remembering he has a sous chef. He spins around, grabbing a stick of butter, the garlic he chopped earlier, and a small bowl.]
Here, mash these together until it's like, spreadable.
[Then he just sort of stands, hands on his hips, looking around the kitchen. He gets out a second frying pan, and starts doing some more things, but at a much more relaxed pace. The main dish is on track, and they've got to wait for the pasta to cook which will take a few minutes at least, good time for a breather.]
Just curious, if the microwave had cooked the potato, were you just going to serve it to her as is? What was the rest of your plan there?
no subject
...I was going to chop it, probably? I hadn't really thought that far ahead.
