Matthew loves him--wholly, simply. Maybe he can't do otherwise, be any other way, but he doesn't want to, so does it matter? He's never striven to be someone else, never worried about who he is, even though he fails at so much more than his brothers ever have, even though he knows he isn't as clever as Declan or as full of potential as Ronan or as brave as either one of them.
Joy, affection, contentment, an easy laugh. Those are gifts that Ronan gave to him. ]
You, too. You're mine, too.
[ It's a little thing for him to say, or maybe it isn't. Ronan created him out of nothing more than a thought in his sleep. That should change things, but somehow, now that Matthew knows, it doesn't. Not in a way that matters to him all that much. ]
I can't believe you were three.
[ This time his words carry a faint tease of that laugh. ]

And soon, maybe another boy. But he isn't ready to talk about that yet.]
Yeah, well I'm surprised you came out fully cooked and with a brain, considering I was three.
[Rude, but accurate.]

You're so rude sometimes.
[ But he's still laughing and sounds thoroughly unoffended. Fully cooked, it's funny. (He doesn't feel half-cooked.) ]

I have to step up my game.
[He raises an eyebrow, but he's smirking a bit. Matthew is smiling. It can't be so bad.]
no subject
Not really, you don't.
[ It's not so bad. But before he forgets, before they get totally caught up in jokes, there are some other things he needs to run by his brother. The little details that are still a concern. ]
Hey, Ronan? I missed a week of school. And work. I've got a job here.
[ Also Dorian Gray has been nosing around, but Ronan doesn't even know him anymore, so Matthew doesn't think to ask for his advice on what to do about that. What he's saying, without actually saying it, is "what should I do?" Finding out that he's a dream is a lot easier to accept than such a thing likely should be, but that doesn't mean he wants to tell everybody about it. ]

[Because Gansey can handle this. This is right in Gansey's wheelhouse.]
no subject
I think he already called some people. But I still have to go back in.
[ He expects to get some questions from his friends, his coworkers, even after all of Gansey's damage control. ]
What should I tell everybody?
no subject
[He flicks something, and looks away a moment, and then back at Matthew.]
Do you want people to know? I don't care either way. It's up to you.
no subject
But knowing it's up to him, that it's his own decision--that actually feels nice. ]
I don't want everyone to know.
[ Dorian Gray, for one. Just the thought makes Matthew scrunch up his nose in displeasure. ]
But I have a friend, Lucy. It's really okay if I tell her?
no subject
Do you trust her?
no subject
She's my friend. I don't think she'd tell anyone else.
[ And he doesn't want to keep it from her. ]
no subject
[He looks a bit unsure.]
It's your life, Matthew.
no subject
Okay. I'm going to tell her.
