I speak in smoke signals
WHO: Tim Drake-Wayne and Kon-El
WHERE: a rooftop somewhere
WHEN: May 3
WHAT: catching up
WARNINGS: one of the characters has been having a depression problem so who knows, will update anything
A rooftop rendezvous with Blackbird may or may not have been what Kon had in mind, but this is what he's getting. Tim might admit to himself that part of the reason he picked a roof is because he'd rather have the mask on than off, but that would require a bit more introspection than he's willing to give right now. He hasn't been especially social the past couple weeks, which he would argue is totally normal considering that he and Dick are taking over a company, and sometimes a Bat just wants his eyes hidden. Is that so wrong?
Tim does, as promised, show up with lunch in the form of burgers, fries, and milkshakes, which are waiting patiently in a paper bag at his feet. He tried not to show up too early so they won't be totally cold by the time Kon gets here, but luck of the draw on that.

But he felt like he had to talk to him. Get to know him as best as the guy would let him, which he felt would be nothing much. He needed a friend right now and Tim probably needed one as well, okay they weren't the best of friends but Kon could listen.
He left his apartment and took off to the address where he would meet Tim. He hadn't expected the rooftop hang out session but he really couldn't say he was surprised. Kon dropped down and landed close to him. He wasn't early, but he wasn't incredibly late either.
Damn did those burgers smell good.
"Aw man, it's like you read my mind or something."
That's when he takes a moment to look the Blackbird outfit over and reaches out to poke at the edge of the mask.
"Nice outfit."
Kon was casual with jeans and a black t-shirt with his leather jacket.
And then, "I better be taller when I get older."

Tim pushes the bag of fast food goodness in Kon's direction. "Help yourself." One of those milkshakes is his, but aside from that, he mostly bought lunch with Kon in mind, so he can take whatever, as far as Tim's concerned.

Kon crouches down to open the bag up and take a burger out. He unwraps it and takes a large bite while also grabbing the fries and maybe shoving some in his mouth with the burger. Tim was more built than he remembered, and he looked like there was so much more shit he had gone through in his life that was settled on him. Like it was a badge or something. Not of honour but more 'this is what I've gone through' kind of deal. It was in the way Tim carried himself, it was different to the 'fresher' faced kid from home. He really was from the BatFam.
"So," he spoke through a mouthful of chewed food, before he swallowed it down, "what was going on for you back home. You know what I was doing, so your turn now."

And here he'd been trying to think of ways to delicately step around information about Kon's future death and resurrection. He didn't prepare ways to step around his own present. And it's not like he can claim he can't tell Kon because it would fuck up the timeline when everyone forgets what happened anyway.
"Nothing that interesting." When did he forget how to making up convincing lies?
Finally got around to tags ;;
it's not.Kon takes another large bite from his burger and pointedly stares at Tim, his expression really said it all. To make his point even clearer, he raised a brow. After that mouthful he sighs.
"Uh huh. So really, what's been up? Cause you're you and I'm gonna guess we're still on a team together or something with Bart, Cassie and everyone else, so obviously something interesting has happened."

It was worth a try. (It wasn't.) It's not like he'd expected Kon to just accept that answer. "We did re-form the Titans." He could lie and act like he's still on it, cherry-pick some story to tell Kon to satisfy his curiosity. But that seems like a lot of trouble to hide something that Kon could easily find out by talking to Steph, and honestly, Tim doesn't really want to lie. "I'm... on a break from them right now."

"Like Nightwing Titans?" Look how excited he is because hot damn, he's not a fan of him or anything, shut up. But then he's wondering why they left YJ and what happened. He didn't think he was going to get much else from Tim about anything. But this would do for now he supposed. Then Tim talks about the break and his head cocks a bit.
"Things get too much or somethin'?"

(He's considered returning. With Bart and Conner back, it would be a little more like old times, but he's... not ready. He's not done. They've been getting along fine without him, anyway.)
Rather than dwell, he redirects back to the easier question. "By the time we got into it, it was really just Starfire, Cyborg, and Beast Boy from the old Titans, then you, me, Cassie, and Bart. Babysitting us, I guess."

Kon frowns a little and thinks about Red Tornado and how at the start of Young Justice they had him as a babysitter and how frustrating it was. Like they couldn't be trusted not to mess up or something. And the same thing happens when they become Titans? Great. Too bad you forget everything you're told here if you go back home.
"How far in my future do you come from them? I mean you look older, but you don't look Nightwing old. So I'm uh, like 2 or 16 or whatever you wanna go with."

He tilts his head. Change of topic time. "How have you... been? Here."

When Tim asks him how he's been, he takes a while and decides to quickly finish off the burger and take a drink. That, was a heavy question.
"You mean the first or second time? Exhausted is probably the best word to use. More stuff seems to happen here than it did back home. Everyone I know from back home is either from a different universe and knew a different version of me, or from my future. Which sucks by the way."
He shrugs his shoulders and walks over to the edge of the building and looks over it.
"It's been hard at times. Especially with MC Fear running on repeat. You guys from Gotham have some messed up Rogues. Coming from a guy who fought a shark man."

"Did you get placed with roommates, or...?" Is he low-key concerned about Kon living on his own? Maybe. It's just weird to look at him and see someone younger, even if it's not by that much.

A playful smile and a look. The time he was in Gotham, not a fun time, but he didn't get the urge to go back and visit. It just didn't feel good to be there.
"Not this time. Got a place to myself."
He'd be insulted if he knew. After all, he's perfectly capable of looking after himself. Take out is a great source of nutrition.

He's not all that reassured by Kon living alone, though. Would it be too much to ask? Hmm. "How's that been going?"
