Maybe it's a Mexican thing.

[Jaime wraps one arm around Ken, companionably squeezing him to his own side, and likely putting the poor kid off-balance. But hey, you have to wrap your arm around someone else's shoulders when you're telling them an old story! It's big brother law!]

My sister's so much younger than me that I remember exactly what it's like to be an only child, and trust me -- she was just as scary then as she is now.

[Thanks, Jaime. Ken does stumble a little, the center of his feet's gravity not where he's used to it being, although he remedies for it by leaning hard on Jaime and clutching at his shirt. If it stretches it's your fault!]

Was she? How, exactly? [did you get yelled at a lot as a child Jaime-san]

Well, if you're bad, she yells. [He shakes his finger at Ken.] And when the finger comes out, you know she's really mad. She doesn't do it much, but that means that when she does, you know it's serious -- especially if she used my whole name.

[Jaime feigns shuddering, but really, that finger wag and that cry of Jaime Reyes, is this how we raised you... will haunt his dreams forever. There's a reason why he's still so polite!]

I bet she's scarier than any supervillain you could fight in that armor of yours. But she sounds great -- I wish I could meet her.

[khajidont]

Me too. She'd like you, so long as I didn't tell her about all the troublemaking you do, [he can't help but tease him.] But I wouldn't want her here anyway, so you might be outta luck there.

[amadaman]

[He shakes his head.]

I wouldn't wish this place on her either. So you're just gonna have to keep telling stories.

I... dunno what I'd do if I really met her either, anyway.

Aw, you'd hardly hafta do anything. She'd love you. You'd just keep your manners up, and you'd be just fine, so long as you wouldn't mind her kinda fussing over you. It's what she does.

[He smiles, and if a little bit of it's sad, its warmth overwhelms any melancholy that comes from missing his family.]

I wish you could meet her. Just not in this place.

[amadaman]

Like Miss Constance from the market?

[That he still goes to visit, who still gives him so many treats when he does. He likes her. She feels like an aunt or grandma, which he never had but can guess about. Ken watches Jaime's smile, and understands it better than he's understood most things.]

But if she ever shows up, I'll do my best not to stress her out like I do you.

[He laughs.] Aw, you don't stress me out that much. Not anymore, anyway.

[Okay, that's a lie, but comparatively speaking, Ken's practically a piece of cake now when compared to the when they first met. If he could just stop having run-ins with people of questionably homicidal natures, they would be peachy.

Mostly.]

But I'm sure she'd be understanding.

[amadaman]

With a superhero like you for a son, I'm sure she's gotta be.

[Ken takes a moment to pause once they get away from the majority of the crowd, though, and leans on Jaime a bit as he shakes out one foot. These heels.]

Hey, you're the one who ran to my rescue first. [They sure told that rude guy what's what...!] You sure you should really be wearing those? They look like foot traps. Really, really uncomfortable foot traps.

[amadaman]

Yeah, but society expects girls to wear this stuff all the time. Said Penny.

[And then demanded that he wore it all day to experience. She is evil, he thinks every time his feet ache.]

They also make me feel taller.

[khajidont]

...I don't get why you have to wear them if girls are expected to.

[What does that have to do with anything? Penny, what on Earth are you telling this boy?!]

And if you really wanted to feel taller, I mean, you could get lifts. But those might look kinda silly, [he says, as if high heels are a much more reasonable option for a twelve year old kid.]

Ah... It's a long story, but it's only for today and I think I'll be able to heal my blisters as always.
